Book Description

July 10, 2007
As one of the most exciting art movements of our time, environmental art celebrates our connection to the natural world through beauty, science, metaphor and ecological restoration. It can encompass a surprising landscape of approaches from ephemeral "art in nature" sculpture designed to last only a few hours before returning to the earth, to community-based "eco-art" installations which clean up polluted watersheds and promote public understanding of local and global environmental issues. The artworks featured in the Environmental Art 2008 wall calendar were drawn from the global archives of greenmuseum.org, a not-for-profit online museum of environmental art. It provides a sampling of some of the latest developments in this field to stimulate the imagination and promote the role of art in the creation of a more sustainable world culture. Sample Caption: "Heart of Reeds, Chris Drury, UK, 2005 - The "Heart of Reeds Project" was inspired by the double vortex form of the human heart known as the "Cardiac Twist." It combines art, science and ecology to create a water-purifying landscape of reeds which processes storm water from reclaimed lands along the Lewes Railway, in the artist's home town in England. This project includes trails and walkways as well as an ongoing educational program to engage students and local residents..."

5.0 out of 5 stars art + environment = inspiring calendar!, November 28, 2007
This review is from: Environmental Art 2008 Calendar: Contemporary Art in the Natural World (Calendar)
Gorgeous and visionary and printed on 100% recycled paper!
This calendar provides a great introduction to environmental art through a variety of media and approaches. Visualizations of whale song, landscapes that clean up polluted water, waste recycling sculptures and ephemeral art in nature projects. Plus, proceeds benefit greenmuseum.org, an online museum of environmental art which serves to support this kind of work worldwide. Great gift to help open people's understanding of what art can be and what we can all do to support a culture of sustainability.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but..., December 11, 2007
This review is from: Environmental Art 2008 Calendar: Contemporary Art in the Natural World (Calendar)
This calendar is fantastic, except for the month of November...it's photo is a collage of someone's garbage. Some guy took a picture of everything that he threw away for an entire year. Needless to say, I can't hang it up in my office since it has several pictures of condoms and other garbage that isn't exactly appropriate in an excecutive environment. Other than that, the pictures are beautiful!
