Book Description

August 6, 1996 0471966126 978-0471966128 1
It is now widely accepted that environmental concerns have entered the mainstream of political, commercial and professional agendas. The land and property professions are coming to terms with the implications of a broader understanding of environmental issues such as global warming, biodiversity and sustainable development and increasing governmental involvement in more stringent pollution control, attempts to deal with past contamination and more extensive habitat protection. It has been strongly argued that it is in the interests of the land and property professions to take the lead in environmental protection and enhance the environmental component of their professional advice. This book brings together the results of the RICS Environmental Research Programme 1994/5. Nine research projects were funded to investigate issues of relevance to the professions. Ranging from pollution in mine workings to energy efficiency and building refurbishment, and from the evaluation of contaminated land to the practices of estate agents. The opportunities offered by the new environmental agenda to various branches of the land and property professions and the part that surveying education should now play are also assessed.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) commissioned a programme of research into how environmental issues impact upon the areas of activity within the surveying profession. The programme covered a whole range off issues affected by environmental change including technical, economic, financial, planning, legislative, regulatory, and socio-cultural. The results of this programme are presented here together with a coherent and balanced set of discrete research projects in the environmental field. These projects will aid the development of skills necessary to undertake such research and, furthermore, establish a presence for the surveying community in this area.
