Available from these sellers.

Book Description

October 7, 1993
This book is for researchers, academics, and professionals with geographic information systems (GIS) experience who need to know more about environmental modeling. It is also intended for environmental modelers who want to know more about GIS, its advantages, and its problems. The first part of the book describes the state of the art in GIS, environmental modeling, spatial statistics, and spatial databases. The second part reviews the state of integration in each of the major "process" areas, ranging from atmospheric to subsurface. Each section includes an overview chapter and case studies. This book will be useful to planners in federal agencies (EPA, DOE, USGS, Parks Service, etc.), academic researchers, environmental consultants, and as a text for advanced GIS courses.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Illustrates the range of environmental simulation models, levels of integration, and future uses." --Geotimes

"A 'must' for anyone with even a passing interest in GIS and environmental modeling. In a volume of this scope there is bound to be something for everyone. Buy it, read it, use it." --Geographical Review

"There are several features of this book worth mentioning. A complete listing of affiliations and addresses of contributing authors is very helpful for contact and discussion. Uniform numbering sequence of chapters, figures, plates and equations is an advantage over the style used in many books....Keeping original references at the end of each chapter (paper) while unifying the referencing style across the book is a good judgment that gives a better linkage with the contents....Covers much in GIS and environmental modeling....It is well related to the atmospheric and hydrological sciences." --Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society

"The editors did a good job of grouping the papers and providing or commissioning introductory discussions for each part. . .a useful addition to the libraries of GIS users. . .a valuable supplement for students." --Journal of Regional Science

"While this book is not an all-purpose 'How To' manual, those seeking to understand and apply GIS methods will find it of considerable conceptual and practical value. . .Health scientists also should appreciate the case study chapters that address rangeland production, agricultural pollution, and hazardous waste sites."--Preventive Veterinary Medicine
