Book Description

0415241707 978-0415241700 February 14, 2002 1
Most government agencies and private companies are investing significant resources in the production and use of geographical data. The capabilities of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for data analysis are also improving, to the extent that the potential performance of GIS software and the data available for analysis outstrip the abilities of managers and analysts to use and analyze the information. This is especially true for environmental applications. Here the need to keep up-to-date is essential for providing effective and efficient services.

Environmental Modeling with GIS and Remote Sensing derives from a training course run by ITC for professionals and managers in the environmental sciences, detailing the applications of remote sensing and GIS for environmental modeling and assessment. It sets out the current research results and provides operational methods for environmental mapping and monitoring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enviromental Modeling with GIS and Remote Sensing, September 11, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Environmental Modelling with GIS and Remote Sensing (Geographic Information Systems Workshop) (Paperback)
This is not a lite reading book. It is however and excellent reference book one that I highly recommend for anyone's library interested in GIS, remote sensing and their applications - It covers the use of these relatively new tools within various scientific discliplnes, very useful and still up to date formulas, tables and charts and references for further investigation. Very technical and very applicable. Not recommended for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference for Beginners, October 29, 2011
This review is from: Environmental Modelling with GIS and Remote Sensing (Geographic Information Systems Workshop) (Paperback)
This book covers the basics for modeling most aspects of the environment. Atmospheric modeling was absent, then again that is for more advanced students. This book is good for upper-level undergraduate students who wish to begin their own research and need a good beginning point. It explains different modeling types adequately, however does not delve into statistics (with the exception of Chapter 9, Hydrological Modeling, and it gives the basic equations found in most Hydrology texts. An excellent reference for beginning independent modelers.
