A rather nice album, comprehensive coverage, might even stretch a bit far for some. Starts off rather funky, going deeper and deeper as the album progresses climaxing with 'Doo Ya!', beautifully smooth and deep. 'Scenario' provides a nice break in the middle of the set, the pace picks up again after that with some more funky house. The album ends slower again, 'Passage of Time' a nice dub tune, deliciously smooth. The finale 'Slayin the Dragon' is quite a nice surprise, definitely draws a lot of inspiration from blues, featuring some prominent guitars and matching vocals :)Definitely a keeper for a late night...

H-Foundation - Environments,
This review is from: Environments (Audio CD)
ENVIRONMENTS, the debut album from the collective H-Foundation, starts off with the title track, a jazzy spoken word track that introduces the players and the concept. But then "Sol Searchin'" gets to the meat and potatoes of the album: nice deep house, with some tech flourishes. "Tonight" is a vocal track that's immediately catchy, while "Scenario" is cool and smooth (with some well-placed cursing), like a filthy downtempo milkshake. The jazziness on display on the first track returns in "Broken Arrow," which melds a wailing trumpet with some mid-tempo breaks. The final track, "Slayin' the Dragon," is a dark guitar and feedback piece. H-Foundation is nothing if not versatile. This album proves it.
