Great Monitor, Excellent Price!,
By Eric M Cone (Romulus, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Envision EN-9110 19" LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I was a little reluctant to purchase this monitor based on the low price. I always keep in mind that "you get what you pay for". This holds true for the Envision monitor. You get a monitor which suffers from a little less quality than some more costly models, but offers the same pleasing LCD performance. In this case, the good points highly outweigh the bad. After receiving my monitor, I would highly recommend this monitor to everyone. The LCD monitor is essentially the same as the Sony and Viewsonic models that are at least $100 more. The display is bright and crisp. Colors are very vibrant. This monitor performs beautifully in all resolutions, everything is crystal clear. The anti-glare screen works perfectly, even when the sun is shining brightly through the window, I never see glare, which my eyes give two thumbs up. The only flaws that this monitor has are: 1) The monitor's tilt mechanism is very stiff. This shouldn't be much of a problem though, since you can see the screen at all angles without a problem. You should only have to adjust the tilt once and forget about it. 2) The plastic tabs that hold the wiring in the back are very fragile. Again, this is an area that most will only use once, but still be careful not to break the tabs. If you don't mind spending extra money, you could get better build quality on a Sony or Viewsonic monitor. But if money is a factor, I would definately buy this less expensive model. You'll be glad you did.

Very Happy with the product out of the Box, it looked great, both astetically, and in operation, was very easy to hook up, and the software was easy to load, I loaded the software after I hooked it up, it worked without loading the software, the software added some monitor specific additional features that are kind of cool. I would highly recomend this product, and this brand to anyone. I had a CRT from this company prior to purchasing this monitor. Getting rid of my 17" CDT, and replacing it with this product was like moving inot a new larger office. This product is 1/10th the size of my old 19" CRT, and the weight difference is amazing. I gave the CRT, which still works flawlessly to a friend. I bought the LCD as it is much easier on the eyes, and frees up a ton of space on your desk, it is also easier on the wallet, and costs less to run.

I bought the display seven days ago and after returning the first LCD due to a cluster of bad pixels in middle of the screen [really annoying] -- the second monitor only has _one_ bad pixel in the upper left. Since I've been an LCD owner for over five years [laptops, et al] I'm used to seeing a bad pixel on a device here and there. Something to keep in mind with these LCDs is that the big blockly pixels of your laptop LCD are no more -- these pixel are practically dwarfed by a pinhead.Anyway, I ran the monitor on an Analog connection for a day -- terrible refresh on some things, but the autosync button helped sharping things up during resolution changes. With the digital display connection I'm currently running the monitor has not had to be adjusted once. The Envision EN9110 looks great, it makes my nice 19" Sun Microsystems monitor [i run a dual headed system] look dank and poorly contrasted. The 600:1 contrast ratio is what makes this monitor a compeditor. I would heavily recommend this brand to anybody as a direct compeditor to ViewSonic's 19" LCD line. I would give this product a 5 star rating if the monitor did not have pixel problems when first purchased. I know LCDs can be made to be more reliable -- I have a Thinkpad that after 3+ years still does not have a bad pixel.

Great Monitor, at a great Price. Don't know what else to say but LCD is the best thing to happen to Moniors in a long time, this monitor replaced a 19" Envision CRT. It was like adding on 4 Square feet to my desk, and knocking a few walls down after I had three friends, and an crane remove the old CRT, which has worked flawlessley for years, and still does, gave it to the kids for Video Games, I, by myself, and effortlessly, installed the new monitor on my desk. (Almost forgot if you are replacing an old CRT get ready to cleam up some dust and grime, Yechhh!) I should have done this long ago, my eyes feel much better with the new monitor for some reason, maybe because there is less glare? I would Highly recomend this monitor to anyone that is interested in a great monitor at a geat price.

Great performance/pricemix + reclaimed desk space:-),

Late in 2002 I promised myself to replace my 19" CRT monitor with a 17" LCD as soon as the latter showed up in stores for under $500. I found such a monitor --a Samsung-- in a major "club/warehouse" chain (the one that shares its ownership with Wal-Mart)in mid October. I brought it home, set it up, marveled over the reclaimed desk space and the sleek appearance. Then, after one session with Word and Excel, took it back within 24 hours due to the hideous display qualities. A year later, ready againto reclaim desk space and move to a larger display(since a 19" LCD offers roughly the same viewable area as a 21" CRT), I took the plunge on this Envision monitor. It's a superb product for the money. Its price point compares favorably with others this size **without** having to wait for a rebate. Its display is crisp and bright..and after years of struggling with reflected sunlight from windows located behind my back, computing in daylight is now easy on the eyes. It renders text very nicely: Word and Excel look great, it renders digital images wonderfully. There are some exceedingly minor quibbles that make we wish there was a "4.5 stars" rating option: No printed user guide. There is a single sheet quick start guide, but for the full manual, you get to download a .PDF file from Envision's website. Note to hardware manufacturers: DON'T push the overhead of user documentation production onto your customers. Print it yourself and include it with the product.
As antother reviewer pointed out, the tilt mechanism is stiff. Finally, the video cable connection has an unusual vertical configuration (presumably to accomodate wall mounting), and it takes some wrestling with the monitor to get the screws in. Finally, the AC-DC power transformer is a large brick (similar to a laptop's, but better I guess than a "wall wart"). This probably could have been integrated with the display or base. These are minor, but the purchase price is non-trivial, so they do matter. I really like the display, LOVE the extra space on my desk, and it means the largest item in the room is no longer my CRT! This is a very good choice for the money. Update: Here's how much I like this monitor. Eight months laterI I just upgraded to a dual monitor display...and bought a second of this monitor. Note: This seems to be the end of the "model year", and you may be able to find some deeply discounted ones out there. Mine was discounted enought to pay for the upgraded video card needed to support a dual display. No dead pixels on either of these machines (and one was a floor model in Staples that probably wasn't treated too gently; it's working fine and under full warranty...). At current Amazon prices, it's a terrific deal, and if discounted...it's a steal!

I did a lot of shopping around and decided to try out this LCD monitor. I'm glad I did. Great looking picture, sharp, bright and solid. Well built as well. 3 year warranty which is much better then the standard 6 month or 1 year you will get with most other brands. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did as well.

First, my set up as yours may vary ... I am using a IBM thinkpad with DVA output, so keep that in mind - I don't know what analog output would look like or what your video card would look like. The monitor has zero dead pixals, screen refresh is really fast, colors are bright and clear, text is crisp. Set up was just turning it on. I don't have te best vision but My 46 year old eyes can read 1280x1024 on the Envision just fine. There may be better monitors for gaming or whatever, but at this price I give the Envision 5 stars for the budget buyer that wants great quality.

I first saw the monitor at a local warehouse store but they were out of stock. Comparing it to the pictures on the other monitors, it seemed much brighter. I purchased it on line through Amazon and received it 2 days later (additional shipping charge). When I hooked it up I had to turn down the brightness controls. For the first time I can actually watch a DVD on the computer and enjoy it. Yes it is somehat more flimsy than some of the other monitors which cost significantly more, however, it is also less bulky and takes up less space. Once it is set up, it does not get moved around much, so, unless there is an earthquake, I am not concerned that the other units may be heavier. It also comes with a 3 year warranty which is better than other monitors. I highly recommend it.

I've had this monitor for about 6 months now. I don't have anything bad to say about it except that I agree it's a little stiff when trying to adjust the tilt. I've been very happy with my purchase.

Just to keep it short:Excellent quality Excellent price (I've seen it for quite a bit more at local stores) The only problem I've had is when viewing something full-screen, there's a bit of distortion. But that's probably something I'm doing wrong, since the screen is absolutely perfect in all other settings. So much quieter and smaller than my old 19" CRT monitor. Highly recommended. |
