5.0 out of 5 stars Envy On The Coast CD (USED like new), October 8, 2010

This review is from: Envy on the Coast (Audio CD)
One of my favorite bands of all time. I decided I had to own one of their CD's especially since they recently broke-up. >:/ In my opinion they have some of the most amazing lyrics and an amazing sound. I'm even considering getting a tatoo of a quote from one of their songs. Anywho the CD arrive in about 4 days, great quality, it really was like new, and like other people said it's only 5 songs, but if your a fan or just discovered the band, i'm sure you'll love it. :D

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great, August 31, 2007
By
This review is from: Envy on the Coast (Audio CD)
Upon seeing Envy on the Coast live (opening for Angels and Airwaves), I resoluted to buy whatever CD they had for sale at the event. All that was available was a 5 song EP, so I bought it. I popped in at home and tried to find the song that caught my ear most, which turned out to be Temper, Temper. Here's my song by song review:

Paperback: 7.5/10
The weakest song on the album BECAUSE it doesn't showcase the band's unique quality. It is still one of the most oft-listened songs on my iTunes (with 36 listens since the end of November 2006). The best part is the harmonies in the chorus.

You Won't Hear This: 9.0/10
The band's Queen influence is the most prominent here. A powerful song with nary a power chord in sight. (Ok, maybe a few, but this is punk rock.) The lyrics are very interesting, and the piano melodies and progressions are beautiful.

Temper Temper: 9.0/10
Temper Temper begins with a single pizzacato note plucked repeatedly, and the song begins building from there, until it explodes into the energetic chorus and bridge.

Suckerpunch: 10/10
My favorite song on the album (with 78 iTunes listens). My favorite aspect is how the band holds off with a high energy chorus until the finale. If you don't feel compelled to scream along with the bridge, you may lack a pulse.

Green Eyes Don't Lie: 8.5/10
The guitar tones are very beautiful, and the song has spacious, lush soundscapes. Appears to have a Pink Floyd influence, and is quite a departure from the rest of the album.

I would recommend this album anyone who is interested in the more complex side of punk rock. If you enjoy the Mars Volta, Coheed and Cambria, and Circa Survive, you can't go wrong with this EP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Rock, June 7, 2007
This review is from: Envy on the Coast (Audio CD)
Though this CD only has five songs, the songs are well composed with no bad lyrics. Like one of the commentors, I saw this band play live, and they sounded great. Once I heard the performance, I decided to buy the CD, and I will say, I am not disatisfy on buying this CD. Unlike most of the emo bands, which use a lot of power/fake chords, this band has some great guitar solos! I'd say if you are into progressive/emo rock, you will like this CD.

I saw this band in Detroit and I was blown away. The CD is the best disc you could ever buy. The music is like progressive rock on indi speed & these kids can write songs & play it live too! If you like King Crimson to Cute is what we aim for, this disc is for you. As a matter of fact, if you like music period, you will like this disc. You heard it here second.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Next Big Thing, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Envy on the Coast (Audio CD)
I saw Envy On The Coast as an opening band for 30 Seconds To Mars in Chicago. They are as good, if not better live than on the CD. I thought they were awesome, so i got their autographs after their set. My friends and I ended up hanging out with the band members while the other three opening bands were playing. The guys are really cool, and really fun. And this CD, even though it's short, is a great CD. Temper, Temper and Green Eyes Don't Lie are my favourite tracks. But, they're all awesome. I found it weird that, when i bought the CD, the titles on the case and the titles when i uploaded it into iTunes were totally different, so I had to change them.
