Soft rock meets electronic industrial,
By Ted Del Prato "technodemon" (Acworth, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eon:Eon (Audio CD)
Project Pitchfork is one of those bands that you can't mistake for any other. Their sound since the very beginning has been very different from other industrial/EBM bands. They use the traditional keyboards and distorted lyrics, but most of their songs are of a slower, almost soft/goth rock blend. With Eon:Eon, what you get is a collection of laid back electronic ballads. This is a great direction to take this style of music since it provides a mellow alternative to bands like Funker Vogt, Evil's Toy, and Wumpscut. There are a few faster club friendly tracks on Eon:Eon however (like Carnival and Steelrose) but I still feel as though this release is missing something. Maybe it's just the more aggressive sound that Project Pitchfork's eariler material had. If you are looking for something that will get your blood pumping, Eon:Eon may not be for you. If you are in the mood for a softer variation of your favorite industrial and ebm music, definitely try this album.

This is amazing music! So many of the songs stand out in their own way! Hunted and I Live Your Dream are my 2 very favorites, but Steel Rose is also very good, only it has harsh vocals. About the vocals, they are pretty complimenting. I really enjoy listening to this album. For those of you who don't know, I usually listen to metal. Of course I mean true metal - not Korn and your other American dung music. Can't we write any other relatively decent songs other than what Evanescense and the prog bands can do? Anyways, so I'm used to Tristania, Negura Bunget, Nightwish, Rhapsody, Switchblade Symphony, Angra, Lost Horizon - you get the idea. It must be the trance-loving side of me that lets me love this album so much. About the sound itself, can you imagine Switchblade Symphony plus Samael's Eternal? That's where this kind of music fits in, at the best I can describe. The way I see it, there is something for everybody with someone like Project Pitchfork. I downloaded Requiem off of ........what's it? Alpha Omega or something, and I love that song almost just as much as Hunted and I Live Your Dream! I'm telling you folks, this music is outstanding. The mood you're in doesn't matter. I guess its like Highlord. Go read some of the reviews for When the Aurora Falls for some details. That's pretty much what Project Pitchfork is like for me - an instrumental dreamworld. I'm gonna try and get Aurora myself. When I do, I'll try and review it so you can compare reviews. The key to remember with Project Pitchfork if you're not used to this kind of music is that it is electronic. As I said before, I dig real trance. Techno-like drums dominate the songs and you don't often hear metal sounds. Usually, the melody is defined by programmed "city sounds", as I like to call them. Industrial - that's the word I'm looking for. This is slow and not in-your-face music. Don't get Fear Factory, Marilyn Manson, or Canadian death metal in your head when I say "industrial" - this is different. It just came to my head - if you've heard of Star of Ash, imagine a more involved, less keyboard-oriented sound, male vocals, and techno drumming and you'll also arrive near the sound of Project Pitchfork. When you hear that this is goth, I'm not sure if I agree. This is more dance + darkwave than goth. So take Without Face or someone like that and add a DJ you love. That's really the best I can do to describe such a unique genre. When you get the time, go read some of my other reviews and say if this helped you or not please.

I like this album quite a bit and think it is quite good. I especially like I Live Your Dream, Carnival, Wish, Orange Moon, and Realm Center. If you are willing to stray beyond mainstream artists then this is a great album that is enjoyable to listen to over and over.

I gotta say, I don't really like PP all that much. IO/Charka Red! just didn't do it for me, but Eon:Eon is awesome. The sound is like a mix of APB and Evil's Toy. Nice all around beats, not too dark, not too synth-pop. Just perfect.

One of the most frustrating things about Project Pitchfork is their inherent instability. Even though they often succeed wondrously in painting a vision, their occasional flawed songs plod on relentlessly. In other words, when they're good, they're great; when they're not, they're monotonous. This is, thankfully, one of their finest works. Although initially propelled by the goth industrial track Steelrose, the disc reveals more intricacies later on, as the subtleties take over. I Live Your Dream and Carnival are perhaps the strongest songs here. Fans of their earlier, angrier work (Souls, etc.) may be a bit put off by the appealing melodies prevalent here, but fans of VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, and other "danse" floor masters will be very pleased.

Addicting disc,

Before I heard this disc I completely disliked Project Pitchfork, having only heard tracks off IO that simply bothered me. For some strange reason I decided that I'd give it a chance because I was at a record store in Berlin that had it on display with 30 second clips of each track. I was blown away. I'm really sorry that I didn't buy it there, but I didn't have enough cash on me... this has unexpectedly grown into one of my most-listened-to albums. I got a few more discs (Chakra:Red and AO) after this but they didn't match up. C:R's best tracks are somewhat similar to Eon:Eon but I found that I liked almost all the tracks on E:E vs. 1/2 on C:R and AO. There is an alluring ethereal quality about the music here, and IMHO the best PP vocals up to this date (I really didn't like them before IO etc.) From the other reviews here I'd guess that older PP fans dislike "their" band from moving on and making complex, new-sounding music that goes beyond simple heavy beats and melodies, but I think that new listeners who are more open-minded would like it. The more polished production quality might not be appealing to really hard-core old industrial fans. Heavy, rhythmic and melodic... even the vocals have grown on me... I'm looking forward to future releases!

This album doesn't even come close to PP standards. After years of great, creative, melodic work this album can be permanently shelved and easily forgiven. PP are to good and this can put down to tour and label deadline demands. I hope. Don't let this be your first PP album.

their best album ever: better electronics, better melodies..,
By
This review is from: Eon:Eon (Audio CD)
Just when it seemed Project Pithfork were getting harder and harder with Chakra red, we are confronted with a more melodic album. Eon:Eon is P.P.' sbest album ever, together with IO; Completely electronic, it is an example of how pure electronic music should be; not all the songs are masterpieces but there's not a bad song either; The best are Carnival, Orange Moon, I Live Your Dream... The only perceptible guitar appears in Rescue, which is also a good song though quite different to the rest, more similar to Chakra Red; The voice sounds clearer and better than in previous works, expressing much more nuances than in other albums, ranging from distorted vocals (Rescue), to even melodic intonation (Realm Center)... Project Pitchfork re-invented themselves with 'Chakra red': with their previous album, 'Alpha Omega', they seemed to have arrived to a critical point: 'Chakra red' was welcomed since they achieved to explore different ways while at the same time they maintained their distinctive flavour. Now, with 'Eon:Eon' they softened a bit their sound, they polished their previous rawness to make a technologically and emotionally perfect electro-industrial album. Stmes flirting with pop with their most accessible melodies ever (which they even pushed further with Daimonion) , stmes flirting with industrial rock, etc. 1. Carnival: a perfect opener; an electronic melody repeats all over the sound while good vocals and good chorus made this a perfect song. You see from the beginning PP are abandoning their harshness. (9/10) 2. Real center: begins with pseudo-guitar sounds and soon it becomes a good electro-pop tune, soft vocals, good melody, an underestimated song in my opinion. i like the vocals. (9/10) 3. Hunted: PP had had some tours with Front 242 around that age. That becomes clear in this song: good percussion, the vocals resemble a bit De Meyer and Richard 23's. Quite addictive and EBM. (8.5/10) 4. Resist: this is a song that sounds like typical Project Pitchfork EBM songs but more polished. Quite upbeat, pure EBM, this song could have been in any previous album. But sth doesn't work properly here, anyway. (7.5/10) 5. Rescue: very few vocals, heavy electronics and heavy guitars make this a quite odd bird in Project Pitchfork discography. But it's good anyway. (8/10) 6. Karma monster: supposedly a ballad: here the beats are slower, sth like Chakra Red's December Sadness though less melancholy. Quite a good song, lyrics i stmes don't understand. (9/10) 7. Your destiny: an average song: it presents quite dirty electronic sounds, diffused vocals; but it's not bad, it's simply nothing out of this world. (7.5/10) 8. Eon:Eon: strange choice: the quitest song in the album is sung in German. And it sounds perfect indeed. The melody, quite repetitive but never boring, makes this quite a melancholy song. I love it. (9.5/10) 9. Orange Moon: typical project Pitchfork style, yes. But the elctronics used are so awesome, the voice distortion so aptly used, it's very very good song. (9.5/10) 10. Dreamer: one of the best chorus I've ever listened to. The rest of the song is good but nothing groundbreaking, but as a whole is a perfect example of how EBM can sound new and fresh nowadays. Very very good. (9.5/10) 11. Wish: this song is similar to Orange Moon and Dreamer, but i don't know why I don't like it too much. maybe the chorus, I don't know. (7/10) 12. I live your dream: a piano reverberates on a background of silence. Something great is approaching and about to start: well, only a song, but one of the best songs I've ever listend to. For me, the best project pitchfork song by far. I love the voice, the chorus, the piano, the electronics... reminds me of 'Carnival' but better and slower. (10/10) 13. Steelrose: this song reminds me of 'Bodies' (1995's Corps d'amour, a project pitchfork ep), but stronger. Spilles whispers and screams with a very similar voice treatment. A good song, not one of the best, but a good end to the album. (8.5/10) From what I read by other fans, I think this album is a bit underestimated and overlooked. well, all have our own opinions, but I think EON EON is the best Project pitchfork album. No bad songs here, unlike other albums, better vocal treatments, better melodies.

If you like radiohead, Nine inch Nails or even Pearl Jam, this album will speak to you. The most notable and essential songs on this album are Carnival, Orange Moon, and I live your Dream. I would consider these to be the best that Project Pitchfork has offered in their entire history, with the exception of Renascence off the Io album. The music is inspired and the lyrics gripping as you'll find yourself singing along and breaking your speakers. Get this disc now.

I was first introduced to Project Pitchfork by the same friend who introduced me to the likes of Covenant, VNV Nation, and Clan of Xymox. "Time Killer" was burned on one of the cds she had given to me. I absolutely loved the abrasive yet danceable, melodic beats and the unique vocals from Peter Spilles. On another cd, she burned a remix of "Steelrose" which is another favorite PP song of mine. I found that song equally enjoyable as "Time Killer". My first PP album was their recent full-length album "Inferno" which I enjoyed immensely. On one of my regular trips to my favorite record store, I found a slew of Project Pitchfork cds in the used bins. Since I don't exactly have the bank account of Donald Trump, I chose "Eon: Eon", along with Apoptygma Berzerk's "The Apopcalyptic Manifesto", Covenant's "Dreams of a Cryotank", and Clan of Xymox's "Creatures". I was hoping to find the album that had "Time Killer" on the album but alas I didn't see it. So of all the PP cds I found, I picked "Eon: Eon" for the sure heck of it. I enjoyed all of the albums that I bought that day. I really enjoyed Project Pitchfork's "Eon: Eon". As much as I enjoy "Inferno", I feel that "Eon: Eon" is far more compelling to listen to in terms of lyrics as well as music. "Carnival" is such a great song to open up an album with. It is dark and abrasive. I absolutely love the opening beats to "Resist", very hard-hitting and danceable at the same time. Kinda reminds me of KMFDM in some wierd way. I did not find one song on this cd that I did not like. I am glad I opted for "Eon: Eon" of all the Project Pitchfork cds I found.
