The best thing about these is that they're just really, really nice objects. Nice to hold and a good quality heft and feel about them. They're useful in the kitchen and more than smart enough to go on a well laid the table.

I do like the single-handed operation, which is very handy when you are seasoning with one clean hand while rubbing salt or pepper into a raw food like meat. It lets you do a more thorough job without running back and forward to wash your hands.

They are small, though. 6" tall, with 2" of that being the spiral spring-looking thing and plunger. And the bottom 1.25" is a void. So that leaves only two and three-quarter inches for the grinding mechanism and your salt or pepper. Also, coarseness is not something you can adjust. This leaves me reaching for my old-school pepper mill when cooking and I can use both hands to grind.

But, balancing out the pluses and minuses I am still a huge fan of these because they're just a nice thing to have.

I saw this push-button style grinder at Crate and Barrel for $25 each. I was intrigued, but wasn't about to drop $50 when I already had a perfectly good $1 salt and pepper shaker. I still loved the look of it, and it's nice to have the larger rock salt and actual pepper corns for cooking. I knew it would go great in the mini alcove above my stove. I found this product and ordered it immediately. I'm very happy with the appearance, build, feel, and performance.

I bought these after seeing similar ones at Crate and Barrel. After only one month the metal part around the main part of the body has come off of one of them so it is not usable with it on. It is very hard to use your thumb to effectively get enough pepper out. Unfortunately I found out past the return time and am stuck with them now.

Update: After I posted the above review the company contacted me and sent me replacement grinders. That is very rare for a company to stand behind their product to this extent. I really appreciate that they did that and I hope that this new set will work out better as they said they are now aware of the defect and have corrected it.

Got this set about a week ago and so far no complaints. Perfect replacement of the traditional salt and pepper shakers and probably is healthier since you are grinding the salt and pepper yourself. I am going to buy another few sets to use for spices and maybe mix some spices together like Trader Joe's does with their grinders. Also, the clear window is so nice to have! You always know how much you have left and what exactly you are grinding.

These grinders are sturdy, heavy and seem to be well made. However, they must have hired a very small hand model to pose for the product photo. The gadgets are much smaller than they appear in the picture. Either that, or I received the "miniature" edition.

I was looking for a nice set of grinders to purchase for my table. I found these and decided to buy them. I can not express enough how impressed I am. I saw right away, when they arrived that they are of excellent quality. They are heavy, they don't tip over, they look good and they grind great. I love this new addition to my kitchen.

The grinders work really well, and they are nice and heavy, but the top metal sleeve portion has come loose without a whole lot of use, so that you have to use both hands to grind the salt to keep the sleeve from sliding up. I'm certain a touch of super glue will fix it, but it is disappointing that it is requiring repair after only a short time of using it.

**UPDATE** Very soon after submitting the above review, the company contacted me and immediately sent me a replacement set -- apparently there had been a manufacturing issue that has sense been resolved. We have had no problems with the replacement set after using them for several weeks. Very happy with purchase and with customer service!

First, Epare is a *great* company. The first pair of salt & pepper grinders I got were defective, and I requested a refund. I didn't ask for a replacement because I thought the problem was a design flaw. Epare saw that they had delivered a bunch of defective grinders, and they sent me a new pair *for free*, and even tracked it through the PO when the PO lost the package. Excellent.

The grinders themselves are very good. They are easy to load and fun to use, especially while cooking. Grab, push, push, push, keep stirring. Exactly what I wanted. They're a great conversation piece, as well.

So, my review is: Great in all ways, except . . . One big issue and three small ones.

Big issue: The total amount of salt or pepper released is pretty light. Until you get used to them, it is easy to under-salt or under-spice while you are cooking.

Small issues:
- There is no setting for size of grind. The flakes are medium to medium large, and that doesn't change.
- Anyone with weak thumb joints - such as arthritis - will not find them easy to use.
- Anyone with only one functional hand will find these easy to use, but not easy to fill. Filling requires two hands and some dexterity to line up rather fine-grade screw slots.

Enjoy!
