Book Description

August 28, 2008
This book was written to provide a glimpse into what America thought during the primary election process of 2008, and to connect us to our common threads of struggle throughout history. Many stories were contributed via the internet and email, depicting raw emotions where a number of Americans were cloaked in disbelief, hysteria, delight, and confusion ... Some felt that the buzz surrounding a man of color who dared to believe he could lead the Free World was a change worth supporting. Certainly the approach was classic; to most his campaign was without substance a societal thought reinforced by his overuse of the one line mantras, Yes we can... and, It s time for change - but history will perpetuate anyway that he received the Democratic nomination and was supported heavily by White America (as was first demonstrated by overwhelming support in Springfield, and then Iowa). That which was once considered taboo became a mainstream phenomena; massive support for a young unknown man who had the Audacity of Hope...

Editorial Reviews

Review

Dr. Hollis' essays are provocative, eclectic, interesting and forward thinking. As an attorney working in the entertainment field, it is not that often that I get to exchange ideas with an African American woman that is a republican, a bishop, an author, an entrepreneur and an educator. I mean Condoleezza doesn't email me, although Obama does. Hollis comments represent the incredible diversity of opinions and lifestyles which are fundamental to our present political debate. This book speaks to the core of where we are in America, and puts forth many challenges for introspection and initiation of new alliances. Lastly, not to mention, she's extremely HOT! --Kevon Glickman, Esquire Bochetto and Lentz, P.C.

Statement attributed to Pastor Bill Devlin, senior pastor, Manhattan Bible Church; national president Redeem the Vote; co-creator, The God/No God Squad August 19, 2008- "In Dr. Hollis' newest book, The Epic Journey of An African American Family: What We Thought and Why, once again she dives toward the cutting edge. As the bishop of Progressive Believers Ministries, she has engaged the public square, the marketplace of ideas bringing the message of the Gospel with grace, mercy, love, kindness and forgiveness. She displays in this book, the courage of her convictions." --Bill Devlin, National President of Redeem the Vote

5.0 out of 5 stars The Epic Journey {Barack Obama}, August 30, 2008
This review is from: The Epic Journey... Barack Obama (Paperback)
This book is extremely thought-provoking: Ms. Hollis portrayal of current culture trends serves as a pertinent reminder that America despite its marvelous feats is yet being conquered by fear of one word (RACE). In addition the writing magnifies the inability of many to commit to personal growth - to engage the process of change and work toward a more perfect union from a nonpartisan perspective. Also, the book highlights the racial discord among African Americans not being able to grasp their role in this era to take ownership of their fate.

I find the challenge she puts forth speaks to the essentialness of our wellbeing - we must find solutions to age old difficulties and eliminate the notions of racial superiority or inferiority.
