About the Author

Marianne Walsh is a columnist, wife, and mother from Chicago, Illinois. She spent ten years in the insurance industry where she learned all about the intrinsic value of the three-martini lunch. Her writing has appeared in the magazine Chicago Parent, in her signature blog We Band of Mothers (webandofmothers.blogspot.com), and in hundreds of insurance-related materials that could put the most ardent insomniac to sleep. Marianne has also been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Beverly Review, and on BlogHer. She was voted one of the Top 25 Funny Mom Blogs for 2012. She holds a BA and an MA in English, and spends most of her free time wiping pee off toilet seats. Julie R. Harrison is a Starbucks-guzzling suburban housewife just trying to make it through the day. Sometimes she succeeds, and sometimes she blogs. Her first book, Mom’s Had A Rough Day: A Collection of Humorous Essays was received to critical acclaim and high praise (thanks, Daddy). She has been featured in Northern Virginia Magazine’s “Best of” issue in 2012. She writes frequently on her humor blog, mothersofbrothersblog.blogspot.com.

I love this book more than ice-cream or a new car!

Award-winning co-authors Marianne Walsh and Julie Harrison are about the funniest people on the planet, possibly the universe. The book is based on both of their longstanding blogs about "imperfect" motherhood and seeing the humor in the everyday. They make you realize it is ok to prefer a trip to Target over a parent-teacher conference. While reading this book, I laughed loudly and frequently until other passengers on the subway were staring at me.

You should buy this book, plus a few dozen copies for friends. It is the perfect holiday gift. "Epic Mom" is destined to become an instant classic, like "Gone With the Wind" or the Bible or any other book written by Shakespeare.

*full disclosure: I have never met the author(s). All right, maybe I did once.

As a mom of two young boys, I barely have time to bathe or do laundry, much less read (and Goodnight Moon doesn't count). But, I laughed out loud reading Epic Mom. Julie and Marianne's everyday motherhood stories are witty, self depricating and sweet. Reading the book is like hanging out with a close friend, hearing about her latest adventure in motherhood. If you liked Tina Fey's or Mindy Kaling's humorous essays, you will love Epic Mom. These gals should have their own sitcom! It is better than a glass (or two) of wine and a great holiday gift for any mom.

This book is a lot of fun! The stories are just long enough to read during those brief moments of peace that mom's get between meeting the demands of their children. I actually hid from my child and read the whole thing in one afternoon! I'm ordering copies for all of my friends. I'm looking forward to the next book!

This book will convince you that you are quite possibly the best mother to have ever lived.

It's pretty funny, too.

My kids love the cover.

And my husband thinks I've developed a profound new interest in Play-Doh.

This is an excellent book to read in those moments of peace and solitude, so the bathroom is out. If you've ever felt like Mother's Day isn't nearly enough and there should be a moment of silence required by law, daily, you will appreciate the humor in this book.

So, I haven't read Epic Mom from cover to cover. That is one of the things I love about it. It's full of short little stories and anecdotes. They are the perfect length for frazzled, time-deprived moms to actually read. Hiding in the bathroom with a tablespoon of Nutella? This book is for you. Only have time to read before bedtime? This book is for you. Need something to read while waiting in the doctor's office? This book is for you. Need to laugh until you cry or smile knowingly in solidarity with other moms? This book is for you. You can read it from front to back, back to front, or from the middle out. My favorite thing about this book is that it makes me laugh and it makes me feel normal. No need to bend the corners of the page. No need for a book mark. You will want to read each story more than once...trust me. All of us are failing at one part of parenthood or another, aren't we? At least with this book, we know we are in good company. With chapter titles like, "Target Is My Religion" and "Back When I Was A Real Person Who Peed Alone" there is so much to relate to.

I would suggest this book as a gift for any mom in your life or even a mom-to-be.

Marianne writes for Chicago Parent and her own blog. I read them constantly and every time she never ceases to amaze me with her humor. So, with that, I purchased her new book for some fun reading over the Holidays. I have known her for along time and have personally met her children and husband who she writes so well about, not to mention her own self. With this book, once again, I found myself laughing my butt off and envisioning our Marianne doing or thinking exactly what she is writing about. So with that, I hope everyone buys this book. I just bought 5 more and plan on having her sign them the next time I see her and then sending them to some new Moms and some old Moms who can all share in the laughter as I am sure we have all experienced what she has written, we just weren't brave enough to put it into words! Come on, buy it and laugh with us!
