5.0 out of 5 stars Dante And Beatrice Reborn - The Divine Comedy Set To Music
Epica is definitely the right name for this Dutch goth/metal group. There sound is truly epic. Darkly spiritual, classical and symphonic, you feel yourself drawn into a multi-layered Netherworld populated with saints and sinners, ghosts and spirits, demons and angels, God and the Devil.

Like the literary figures of Dante and his beloved Beatrice, Mark Jansen...

Like the literary figures of Dante and his beloved Beatrice, Mark Jansen and the exceedingly lovely Simone Simons serve as guides through the various intangible worlds of Heaven, Hell and the realms in-between created by the talented singer, songwriter and guitarist Jansen. When they decided to title this DVD 'We Will Take You With Us' they really meant it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Journey like no other ...., January 13, 2006

Darken the lights and assure no interruptions and you will be taken on a journey like no other. The concept of this DVD is wonderfull, a live show in the studio with full backing choir vocals and a kick ass string section. If you're not familiar with Dutch band Epica you are really doing yourself an injustice. The band is ultra tight in their playing and Simone is dead ass spot on as usual (although a bit mechanical or unemotional while singing, she just just kind of sits there like a rock). The cover of memories from the broadway show Cats is an odd inclusion but Simone's vocals really stir my heart. The included videos are decent but the additional "making of" for them really are a waste of time, nothing happening here just move along people. If any of you like Nightwish, Within Temptation, After Forever , etc do yourself a favor and check Epica out, I promise you wont regret it

Epica is an unknown band for the most part that is unheard of in America. If you know about or are a fan of Within Temptation, Nightwish, After Forever, or Lacuna Coil you will LOVE this band guaranteed.

2 meter sessies is basically a LIVE recording in the studio of "a Phantom Agony" which is a great album, and its going to blow you mind if you know anything at all about classical music. You'll get to see close up every band member and on the DVD is some shocking documentaries about the band and how they started out, from Mike Jansen quitting After Forever to Simone's godlike gothic vocals which she admits came from being a fan of Nightwish. So you Nightwish fans reading this BUY IT. This is in my uber collection forever. In fact you may think twice about Nightwish being the "best band in the world" after watching this, and I'm the #1 Nightwish fan in this country. I'll let you decide that but I'm telling you that you MUST see this DVD. Watch the documentary first before 2 meter sessies to get a feel for the band. You'll be hooked for life if you have more than 2 brain cells about music. :)

Wow, oh wow, this band is my new favorite. I caught a few clips of this DVD and had to buy it. They're amazing. This is a sort of "unplugged" or live studio recording of songs from their first album.

They have amazing guitar riffs, throaty vocals, a wonderful choir, terrific strings and an absolutely amazing lead singer. It's a shame the mic is blocking her beauty most of the time, but her voice is incredible none-the-less.

It's funny to see other's reactions when I'm listening to this. I don't care, I'm spreading the word. BUY THIS DVD.

This video is a pleasure to watch. It is a video of the band Epica as it records some songs in a studio for a Dutch TV show. A small string orchestra, choir, and the band all fit into a small recording studio, and the music that is created is amazing. Guitars and drums are rocking, a choir is belting out their parts, and the orchestra is blending in with the rest of the music. Above this cacophony of sound, this clear smooth soprano binds these different genres together. This video showcases the band's musical talent. Showing that the "3 chord" stereotype does not apply. The music will go from thrash to smooth and back to thrash all in one song. The ensemble does it effortlessly without missing a beat. You can see that everyone in the studio is having fun, and truly enjoying the music they are making. After the main feature is complete, the band slims down. They then perform 3 more songs acoustically. It is this performance that shows the talent that the singer has. Her rendition of "Memories" from the musical "Cats" sent chills down my spine. I would recommend this video to anyone who enjoys not only rock, but classical music as well.

This DVD is nothing short of spectacular. I've recently become a fan of the symphonic metal genre, and Epica has placed themselves firmly at the head of this dramatic form of music. This particular DVD is not a live concert, but a video of the band in a studio recording songs for the "We Will Take You With Us" album. The unique setting gives you an intimate look at the band in action. In the studio with multiple cameras zooming in, there is no place to hide if the mastery of ones instrument is not up to speed. On the other hand, this format lets true masters at there craft really show their stuff. In the case of Epica, the second is true. Simone Simons is absolutely spectacular as the vocalist. Her operetic voice is amazingly clear and she hits every note perfectly. Her voice layers over the heavy metal music and occaisional metal grunt vocalizations like a frosting layered over a cake.
If you've never tried symphonic metal, this is a great place to start. If you're a veteran of the genre, this is a must have. I guarantee you will get goose bumps the first time you watch it.
