Deftly examines the classic sources of enduring joy,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epicurean Simplicity (Paperback)
Epicurean Simplicity by ecologist and writer Stephanie Mills offers thoughtful and thought-provoking insights into the frantically driven, technology-immersed, increasingly complicated society of our "modern age". Stephanie Mills' suggests that the antidote to these contemporary urban pressures is to simply slow down, use less, and live modestly. Epicurean Simplicity deftly examines the classic sources of enduring joy, such as good food, good friends, and the wonders of nature. Epicurean Simplicity is a deftly written, reader inspiring, and personally uplifting testimony of how to live well in today's fast-paced world.

An alternative way to live,

This review is from: Epicurean Simplicity (Hardcover)
The enlightenment project, dualistic thinking, and industrial science are destroying the planet and seem likely to destroy the human species unless we change direction. This beautifully written book provides a viable alternative. Highly recommended.

This review is from: Epicurean Simplicity (Hardcover)
I'm rereading this book as I just bought the hard cover edition, because I think every day about the simpler life inspired so beautifully in this book, and, since 2002, I've made progress in adapting simplicity, through my own efforts and serendipitous circumstance. Stephanie Mills is a gifted writer, and a stalwart supporter of the Great Lakes bioregion, and one of the women I admire most. I've recommended this book to friends and fellow ecoculturists. It's an adventure in living simply, and living as an environmentalist in our world of diminishing environmental protections.
