Epidemiologic speculations and research findings increasingly blaze across media headlines and heighten anxiety among the public. Understanding the foundations of such news can be daunting. Now in its third edition, Epidemiology for Public Health Practice has become a favorite textbook for undergraduate and graduate students new to epidemiology by providing a comprehensive look at all major topics, from study designs and descriptive epidemiology, to quantitative measures and terminology. Distinguishing itself from other texts with its accessible writing style and immediacy of information presented, the Third Edition has been extensively revised, with updated data and statistics essential to understanding the importance of epidemiology to public health.

4.0 out of 5 stars Epi for Public Health Practice, October 16, 2005
The book is very well written. Clean examples are given. The authors do a great job of avoiding complex and confusing examples. The book made epidemiology more interesting and much easier to understand than it could have been. Charts, graphs, and tables help clear up differences between similar concepts and provide examples of concepts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good basic reference for Epidemiology, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Epidemiology for Public Health Practice (Friis, Epidemiology for Public Health Practice) (Paperback)
This was a purchase that I made in order to participate in a master's level epidemiology course. It was perfectly complex for those interested in, but not yet involved in the health fields. Not too complicated and jargon filled, not too simplified. It provided a well rounded background for the subject matter with many background/historical reports for further elucidation of this field. It also included a wide variety of graphs, lists, information sources, etc. that are of use to those in the public heath field.
