5.0 out of 5 stars A definite must read!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Epigenetic Principles of Evolution (Paperback)
This is a one of a kind read. The scope of the book is restricted to evolution of metazoans (and at 800 pgs a task easier said than done) but the author's basic idea on the control system as the source and repository of epigenetic information implies that an epigenetic system of inheritance and evolution may also exist in plants and unicellulars too.

His epigenetic mechanism of heredity involves more than conventional gene imprinting and chromosome remodeling. Intriguing ideas on the nature of epigenetic information, on the epigenetic control of development, and on the phenotype in general, on what the author calls "circumevolutionary phenomena" such as both intragenerational and transgenerational phenotypic plasticity lead him naturally to his theory of the epigenetic control of evolution (ch.14-18) and speciation (ch.19-20). All of that is supported by a surprisingly abundant literature, amounting to about 2500 sources.

A definite must read for any biologist looking for fresh ideas on evolution.
