Rachel Zylstra's newest album has is a unique addition to the contemporary, indie music scene. A natural-born lyricist, Zylstra's stories meander through love, heartbreak, and the human longings for companionship and meaning we all experience (listen to Under My Skin for a taste of this). Each song tells a story that is, at once, uniquely hers and incredibly relevant to the listener. Originally from the midwest, Zylstra has an uncanny ability to describe New York with the freshness and attention to detail that all new transplants experience in the city (my personal favorite in this category is Upper East Side). Her voice is richer still in this new album and seems to explore new notes and variations on melodic themes that tie the album together with a sturdy consistency. Definitely check out this album from a rising star!
