Product Description

Late guitar legend Joe Pass lends his name to one of our most popular archtops. The comfortable to play Joe Pass Emperor II is slightly smaller than the jumbo jazz-boxes and features a single trapeze tailpiece to a Rosewood floating bridge, voiced by a pair of full-size Alnico Classic Humbuckers and matched aesthetically by Abalone "Tree of Life" headstock inlay and block fretboard inlay.

The Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor II is an excellent value in that of a jazz guitar. It is a hollowbody instrument that has been manufactured for many years, which tells me that it's reputation for quality has stood the test of time. The quality of the sound that is produced by the instrument makes it a fine choice for someone who is beginning to study jazz and who wants a good, entry-level jazz guitar, for not alot of money. I compared the level of output of the Joe Pass with that of an Epiphone Dot, which is a semi-hollowbody jazz-like instrument, and in my opinion, the output level of the Joe Pass is superior. The Joe Pass also impressed me favorably because to my ears it produces deeper bass than the Dot. The Joe Pass is also a very impressive guitar to behold. It is a handsome instrument, either as in the vintage sunburst finish, or as in the natural (blond) finish. All things considered, you will not go wrong with this guitar.

This guitar looks and sounds great, and provides a lot of value for its price. Mine was built in Korea. The workmanship looks fine and the action is excellent. I do find it a bit absurd though that it comes with a card showing a detailed checklist of how it was set up and ready to play right from the factory. It was poorly set up and needed some fret adjustments. More than could be explained just by being jostled in shipping. But no biggie - that's expected. Sixty dollars later and it sounded like a *totally* different, sweet-sounding, sweet-playing instrument. I wouldn't want somebody new to it to think that their new guitar was supposed to sound and play like that though. Always best to have it set up by a pro unless you have the knowledge and tools to do it yourself. Maybe someday I'll graduate to a $4,000 Gibson, but for now this guitar suits me fine, and is surprisingly good for its price.

I would give more stars if possible. I was truly impressed with the guitar when it first arrived. This guitar is more like a Gibson!! I've been playing it now for 2 months and I'm still impressed!! Great value.

I've owned this guitar for nearly 20 years. It's awesome to practice with. A lot of volume with no amp. It's very high quality for the price. I put fender flat wound strings on it and they last a couple years! I use it as a fooling around guitar to save strings on some of my other instruments. I had to replace the electronics in this guitar at about 10 years, but that's common in my experience. The only other gripe is that there is feedback in the 5th string E area when amp'd. You have to fight with EQ to tame it. Well worth the modest price though for a solid instrument.

It's a very good Guitar for the money. If your just starting to learn jazz or just want to try a Hollowbody Guitar. No it's not a Gibson 335. Nice Guitar to have around when don't want to plug into your Amp. Nice looking, nice neck, easy to play. Try it out for yourself, it you don't like it sell it they hold their value. But you won't, nice Guitar to add to any collection.
