5.0 out of 5 stars The SG Rules
I have played guitar for over 20 years and seldom, if ever have I been so pleased by the performance of a guitar.
The action is great: 24 frets and no dead spots. It plays just as evenly on one end of the fretboard as it does on the other.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not stay in tune very well
I have played guitar for 25 years, own at least 10 guitars and have recorded CDs as well as spent a few years working with Yngwie Malmsteen.

I bought one of these for something different when desiring to play Black Sabbath songs.

This review is from: Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 SG Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
I have played guitar for over 20 years and seldom, if ever have I been so pleased by the performance of a guitar.
The action is great: 24 frets and no dead spots. It plays just as evenly on one end of the fretboard as it does on the other.
The sound is classic: great crunch chord sounds and surprisingly subtle when necessary. Think "Children of The Sea" and "Sign of The Southern Cross" or "Symptom of The Universe". Rich, full, fat bottom sounds and beautiful clarity in the higher regions when soloing.
This guitar also looks cool as well: the cross inlays are nice without being gaudy and also Iommi's signature is noticeable without being overbearing. The guitar is practical, looks good and performs like a dream.
I don't know what weight problem the previous review was referring to but this guitar is great and I smile to myself each time I pick it up to play.

This Guitar rules!!!Lets start at the top, the grover tuners are top of the line, it don't get much better than that, they are smooth as glass and stay in tune. The neck is just right not to thick not to thin, and the cross inlays are perfect! the frets are cool too, a great size also. The neck is smooth and easy to play also. Now we get to the heart of the matter, the tony Iommi humbuckers, THEY SCREAM!! best pickups I've ever used bar none. the finish and paint is of a higher quality than on most guitar's, the knobs are very professional, and all the hardware is of the highest quality. One of Epiphones best, its body is all mahogony as is the neck. The cheapest Gibson is of the same wood, lesser pickups,no cross inlays,no grover tuners, wow, thats a hard choice of which guitar to purchase, NOT! I absolutly love this guitar and its my main ax now to gig with, I play in a band three nights a week, if it was stolen I would hunt down who did it and gut them like a fish. You can't go wrong buying this guitar!

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST GUITARS I EVER BOUGHT !!!!, June 13, 2010

This review is from: Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 SG Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
I just bought one last week and I always wanted one. And i have this to say about it, if you like the SG, you will love this SG. I saw a video review from a guitar store on you-tube do a review and he said the frets,or strings left his hands dirty, well he must of had some cheap strings, because the frets do not mark my fingers one bit, and I played other Iommi sg guitars and never had that happen, either he had a guitar with fresh stain on fretboard or cheap strings, because the review he gave was unfair to this guitar, no way did that happen to me. Epiphone rocks !!!!! This guitar is awesome and sounds killer !!!! very glad to own, if you can buy one get one !!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS GUITAR, June 4, 2011
This review is from: Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 SG Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
I have had this BEHEMOTH over 7 years I have to
recommend this Epiphone.
This best ever made by this COMPANY
I bought this in the store was drawn to it,played it for 2weeks before I bought it
I did not even know it was A Tony Iommi signature model until my drummer told me couple months later
tells you how much I pay attention to detail all I cared was how it played
for me the best strings on this are hands down DR'S 50-11 SUSTAIN IS ENDLESS
NOW IT TOOK ME ALOT OF YEARS TO FIND THE RIGHT STRINGS FOR THIS BEHEMOTH
use to play 56's for A while just drove me crazy just too bassy through A MESA BOOGIE
but the DR'S ON THIS MASTER AXE will MELT YOU
MY Mesa Amp needs tubes now using A line 6 spider3 amp still sounds AMAZING

I have dropped(fallen over) the Guitar on concrete so many times it has taken A beaten still stays in tune
even the paint job is tough no paint chips anywhere after the abuse I put this Guitar through
never even bought A case for it just started putting it in A gig bag A cuple of years ago
THE TOUGHEST GUITAR I EVER OWNED AND I HAVE OWNED QUIET A FEW
buy before it's too late

styles I play
Black Metal
Death Metal
Ironically now I play more Sabbathy style rock these days post rock go figure

5.0 out of 5 stars One Mean Mutha., August 15, 2011
This review is from: Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 SG Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
The Tony Iommi SG has joined my collection as my 10th guitar. I have a wide range of body styles and brand names. This guitar has become one of my favorite guitars to play. The action i so perfect low with no fret buzz what so ever. This guitar was born to play heavy, heavy riffs. IF you want to play soft classical music, I suggest you look elsewhere... but this guitar is unapologetic it does what it was designed to do. This being my first SG I do have a complaint that the body is so light that the neck has a tendency to drop while sitting and playing. This may be epiphones magnum opus, I found zero defects with this guitar, I am thrilled with it.

I have played guitar for 25 years, own at least 10 guitars and have recorded CDs as well as spent a few years working with Yngwie Malmsteen.

I bought one of these for something different when desiring to play Black Sabbath songs.

My complaint ?

This thing will NOT stay in tune.

I have worked on the nut slots, tightened the tuners ...... but this thing still tends to go out of tune very easily which is very rare for a guitar with a fixed bridge.

Honestly ... they tried to give you lots of features for your money with this guitar ...... but it really is more of a toy than a serious instrument.

If not for the 24 fret feature ...... I would suggest most people who are serious about getting an Iommi sound to buy a real SG guitar and install the custom pickups yourself.

Also for what it is worth ..... watch an recent concert footage of Iommi playing in concerts ..... he rarely uses the Gibson signature pickups.

He is using old PAF and other pickups on his main guitars.

It makes you wonder why ??
