Very good quality on a budget.,
This review is from: Epiphone LP Junior Special Electric Guitar Ebony
I picked up one of these because I needed an inexpensive guitar, light weight guitar to take on a trip. My expectations were very low because of it's price and my past experience with Epiphone products from years back. The action, fret dressings and overall quality of fretboard work out of the box really suprised me. I won't say it was perfect, but it was good enough to avoid immediate work and for this price I would say exceptional. The finish is good. The included pickup is also above average for a guitar of this price range... It's just a solid starter electric guitar at an excellent price.

Last year I picked up this guitar and was very impressed at how well it is for a cheaper guitar. This is a great ideal guitar to get for young kids and adults that are just starting to learn how to play, who want to have a nice electric guitar.

people have made bad reviews on this guitar because they say it goes out of tune all the time. well, i havent had this problem at all and right out of the box this thing was wonderful!!! it plays easy and notes true and after the strings had a good stretch i have not seen this tuning problem that these other people have spoke of. i highly recomend this guitar to anyone.

Classic solid feel!,

To start off, this is one impressive guitar for the money. One of the very few guitars (if only) made with a solid piece of wood & mahogany neck, absolutely made to last. This guitar is pretty damn close to the original as far as quality & feel, though the neck is bolt on and the the tuners are a little weak. The pickup is a humbucker but it would be sweet if it had the P90 installed, though this little sucker can really rock and crank! This little monster is heavy as well, built like Sherman tank...the solid body dishes out insane sustain. May change the tuners to Grovers, and find a P90...but otherwise I'll keep her the same. A great guitar with classic looks, a 50's legend!

My son loves this guitar!,

My 10-year old son has been taking acoustic guitar lessons for about a year and was more than ready to try out an electric. He wanted this one, because Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day (his favorite band) plays a vintage Gibson version of the Junior. The guitar is beautiful, a little heavy for him to wear with a strap (he's sitting down to play mostly), but his small hands can work the frets without a problem, and he's loving all the sounds and sustains he can make happen with this thing. Pretty much stays in tune, has lovely light action. Amazing piece of equipment for the price.

Retailing for less than $100, we have here a Epiphone LP Junior Special based off of the original Gibson Les Paul Jr. Considering the asking price of an original Gibson model of this guitar from the '50s can reach the five-figure mark, the Epi version is a stupidly good value. And guess what... it is ten times the quality instrumet the original LP JR will ever be! Remember that the original Gibson model was built as a beginner/entry level guitar. The Epi model has a way better finish (along with triple the available color choices) and hardware such as tuning pegs and tonepots than the cheap crap on the original. My only gripe about this guitar is they discontinued using a reissue p90 pickup in favor of a more modern humbucker. Boo frickin hoo, but then again what do you want for under a hundered bucks?Bottom Line: Let the stupid idiots in the world of "vintage guitar collecting pay $8000+ for ten dollars worth of basswood while you shred on this rock and roll machine!

I'd been looking at this guitar for quite a while, and finally got around to buying one....I'm glad I did, since the workmanship, finish, set-up, and hardware are all first-rate.....played perfectly right out of the box....really useable volume and tone pots allow flexibility.....tuners are smooth.....guitar stays in tune well.....light, fun guitar.....

only issue I have so far is it seems to need frequent retuning-as in, I notice the sound going flat before I'm even done practicing. This is my first guitar, so a)it's not like I'm taking this to the stage and need it to stay perfectly on key for more than, say, a half an hour, b)I'm not sure if maybe there's just something wrong with mine, and c)there might be a way to fix this, which I will look into.Other than that, this is a steal. Even without amps (which I have yet to get) it sounds good - none of that infernal buzzing I got while playing around with a friend's low-action guitar, yet the strings/frets don't cut into my delicate little newbie fingers. If nothing else, it looks great hanging on the wall. UPDATE: No more issues with the retuning! Still looks good, sounds even better than when I first got it! (Probably because I actually know how to play it now :) |
