3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Bass but Would rather have the traditional Thunderbird, January 24, 2012
This review is from: Epiphone Nikki Sixx Signature Blackbird Bass Guitar, Pitch Black Satin (Electronics)
First let me start by saying that I really do not care for Motley Crue, so this review will NOT be influenced by a liking for Nikki Sixx nor is it the other way around. The pickups are extremely HOT in this bass, and there is no tone or volume controls, just a kill switch. It sounds good, but it is only good for rock or metal, if you want to play clean, stay away from this one. This is an absolutely beautiful bass, I personally don't care for the iron cross inlays, but that is just a matter of personal taste. The bass is extremely heavy, and it tends to have a little neck dive. The best thing about this bass is the neck, which is EXTRAORDINARILY comfortable. It stays in tune very well, and the build quality is very nice. The Opti-grab is a neat idea, some will like it, some wont, I personally don't care for it as it tends to get in my way, but it can be used to help balance the bass out a bit. The last thing is the price. It's $100 more than the regular Epiphone Thunderbird, and while it is a very nice bass, I wouldn't spend $100 more for this, but all in all it is just a matter of personal taste. If you like the Iron Cross inlays and the directly wired pickups, then go for it, but otherwise just stick with the traditional Thunderbird.
