5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice For The Price, July 16, 2008
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
Now while I can't say that this is just as good as a Gibson its close enough. Bought this guitar from American Musical Supply for $319.99 (with free shipping) and for the price it is not bad at all. I ordered it on Sunday night arrived Wednesday playable right out of the box!!!

Looks

Its truly beautiful not as detailed as Gibson but who cares. I got the ebony with chrome hardware the picture does not do this guitar justice. I swear it looks three times as good as it does in the picture.

Sound

For a guitar of this price the pickups are great. On a clean channel the neck/rhythm pickup provides a nice thick rich warm bluesy tone with sustain that seems to last forever! While the bridge/treble pickup provides a bright perfect tone. When mixed with my Big Muff Pi & Boss DS-2
Turbo Distortion pedals (both are a great buy) it provides deep smooth rhythms and ear scorching leads.

Durability

The guitar it self is very well made and can take quite a beating.
My only gripe so far is it goes out of tune with the original strings. So I swapped them out for a new set haven't had a problem since.

Overall

If your looking for a cheap alternative to a $2000-3000 Gibson Les Paul without sacrificing sound or durability this is by far your best bet. If something ever happened to it without a thought I'd replace it in a second.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rollin' in the Big Easy, April 17, 2007
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
This guitar was ready out of the box. Fit and finish was excellent. Plays like a much more expensive guitar. I won't insult your intelligence, by saying it sounds, or plays like a Gibson. But for the money, it's a no brainer. It has that true Les Paul feel. If mine was damaged or stolen, I'd definitey buy another. I've been playing for about 30 years, and I've had my share of axes. For the money this is a solid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epiphone, Gibson...what's the difference, May 8, 2007
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
I'll tell you what's the difference, Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Eric Clapton (during Cream), all to do with popularity and yes a Gibson might sound better, but this one will save you a little dough and still sound good. This is a excellent guitar and worth the money, you don't need to buy a $2900 version of a original Les Paul, unless you have the money for it, this will do just fine. I play mine every day and it hardly ever goes out of tune and I mean very seldom, unless I'm getting downright crazy with the axe and it still stays in tune. The pick-ups are good and has a rich sound, I also like it better than the Strat and yes, I used to have one.

5.0 out of 5 stars awsomely sweetly wicked!!!!!!, April 11, 2008
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
This guitar is the best guitar ever! It is a sweet guitar! It feels, soundS and looks like a real les paul. It is a great investment! I have played a lot of real les pauls and other guitars and this is the best! I even have my own little Squire Strat which is a good guitar, but I think this is the best guitar on earth!!!!!!!!!! I would definately buy this guitar if I were you!!! But I got mine from a store, so I think you should go and try some out. I got mine for around $400 and it is sweet! I played it for 12 hours straight after I got it, plus a ton during the rest of the week and it hardly went out of tune. It has great sound and sustain and as someone said in one review for another guitar, I have to look down to make sure it is me playing it because it sounds so good!!!!! I LOVE THIS GUITAR! IT ROCKS AND IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Its pretty cool, November 13, 2008
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
This guitar is pretty cool. The finish is absolutely beautiful and It really has the feel of a real Les Paul. Shipping was amazing. I ordered the guitar on Saturday and it arrived Tuesday.

However, The looks and amazing shipping service are only a small portion. I have been doing some reading of others reveiws and it seems as if a few people have encountered small problems with their Eipihone Les Paul models. Mine also had one. No matter what I do I can not eliminate "fret buzz". It seems as If I will have to take it to a shop and get the frets filed down some.

Other than that the guitar is an amazing buy and so far no one has experienced any problems that cannot be fixed quite easily. Its really a no-brainier. Even paying 25-30 bucks to get the frets filed will still keep me way under the price range of a Gibson.

So far, even with the fret buzz, the sound is very ballsy and has the Gibson sound. Could be better but Its still very nice.

Bottom line is this is your guitar if you love the feel of the Gibson Les Paul body style but don't want to put out $3000.

5.0 out of 5 stars great guitar at a bargain price, August 13, 2009
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
I have always been a fan of Gibson, way back before they moved their main factory to Nashville and started doing a lot of their manufacturing overseas. Because of that, I have alwasys been hesitant about going with one of their non-US guitars, such as this one. Call me skeptical.

The price was right, so I took a chance on the Epiphone Les Paul. Was shocked at how good the quality and sound was!!

Those who have played ths standard, Gibson Les Pauls will probably notice a few differences, like the lower-quality wood, electronics, and hardware. What you get here isn't bad though. It's just not as good as a Gibson. But you're saving about $2000 though, so I think it's a fair trade.

A good sounding guitar!! Good for a beginner/intermediate player who wants a "real" Les Paul.

5.0 out of 5 stars MY NEW #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, December 27, 2011
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
I started getting serious with guitar when I was about 13, now going on 20, I've acquired some skill. I've played with some bands and recorded some tracks, all as a lead and accompaniment to a skilled acoustic part, which means tone and sound are of importance. I've played alot of guitars, SGs, Strats and Teles, Deans and more, and have owned a well broken in Stratocaster for years now, my pride and joy. I was a proud owner of an SG for a few months, but had to sell it for financial binds which hurt pretty bad, but I loved the humbucker sound. So when Christmas rolled around I was able to convince my parents to get this beauty as a last big gift. IM IN LOVE!!!!! The finish is incredible, the black is beautiful in contrast to the deep cream binding and pickguard. The Grover tuners are amazing and the pots/knobs feel great and work excellent. The trapezoid inlays are something to behold. But my favorite part and what I believe to be the winner for any guitarist: the sound. The Alcino V pickups and separate tone/volume controls make this baby sound incredible, from fat authentic Les Paul tone to crunchy and high treble tones. And the selector switch in the middle give you the ability to blend tone and send chills down your back. Its hefty and feels great in the hands of a player whose used to curvy and light Strats, and its well balanced on a strap as opposed to how neck heavy my SG was. I love the sound through a clean amp with some reverb, and when dirty this thing commands attention with its tone, if the looks didn't already do it. My Strat is due for new pickups and a unique wiring set up to achieve maximum tone possibility, and new tuners and maybe a new neck with a reverse headstock for cosmetic appeal. The Les Paul, new Super Slinkys and Straplocks. This thing is good to go sound-wise and looks so good Im scared to move to fast with it in hand! Pick this baby up and swap the strings, the factory ones are okay but like to go outta tune slightly, other than that, I find it hard for anyone playing any genre to be disapointed with this guitar! A winner in my book and now the reason I will be a Strat AND Les Paul player!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar, January 20, 2008
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
This is an excellent guitar. It sounds great, plays well and only cost me around 400 bucks. Unless you happen to be very wealthy and can afford an original Gibson '59 Les Paul, I highly recommend this guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only Epic, March 4, 2012
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
Slash has been my hero ever since I was little and always wanted a les paul. I didn't want the sunburst i wanted a classic. This guitar is EPIC. I love, it is great for any tunings (lowest drop b) and overall a awesome guitar. I sounds great on any type of distortion and really screams Guns n roses ( also sounds good clean) I have no complaints whatsoever i am just really happy with my choice! Just some advice, make sure to have a a pair of strings ready because the strings you get with the guitar dont last very long if you do lots of alternate tunings.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guitar for the price...and it's a Les Paul, which is also nice., July 16, 2011
This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony (Electronics)
The main issue i have with Gibson is they charge far more than their guitars are really worth, IMO. Yes, they are mostly quality (a few SG's I've played aside), but really, would you really pay like $700 more for something that is really only marginally superior? That is where Epiphone comes in. This guitar really has all the same features as its Gibson counterpart, and sounds great. It is easy to play, has that weight that Les Paul lovers appreciate, has a nice tone, has good quick action, stays in tune...what more could you ask for? Except a $400 price point, which you also get here. Plus, the finish was spot on. A definite winner.
