Good character build up and great story.

The show explores various personality types and how they fit into post-disaster society when daily amenities like food and water can no longer be taken for granted.

This is actually a very good drama set against an end of the world type situation.

I decided to buy the first episode of series 1 and liked it well enough to purchase the entire season for Video On Demand. I watch it on my Roku player.

The characters are well written and well played. Something that I like about this show and other English or BBC shows in general is that there are "real" people in the cast. I mean not everyone weights thirty pounds on a six-foot frame and they can all actually act. Novel idea that.

The story line is good. It's got an arc that develops over the six episodes and then a standalone plot for each episode.

I don't want to give spoilers away so I wont but the gist is THE FLU kills everyone. The survivors are disparate and random. They all happen to be good people (well, for the most part) and rarely argue. Abby, who is the clear lead among the ensemble, is looking for her son, who was away at camp during the flu outbreak. The "superflu" is what kills everyone but it isn't like Stephen King's The Stand. It's just a similar plot device. The rest of them have lost family and friends. One of them breaks out of prison (I guess that is similar to The Stand as well).

They meet misanthropes and sociopaths and really they're just trying to get on with life and be left alone but no one will let them. Whether it's people stealing from them, trying to force them to be apart of a "new society" or just using them for their own gains. It's a well-written show and I recommend it.

I'm a little upset that the first episode of series 2 isn't available. I'm not going to purchase any of the episodes until it is. It's apparently a licensing thing; I assume BBC won't license the first episode of the season to Amazon for streaming or download. Although you can download every other episode.

I look for under rated shows quite often, and this is one of them.

With how well this show was made, I cannot believe it did not get a third season.

The characters draw you in. The story is great. I'll never know Tom's fate.

This review covers both season 1 and 2 - the complete series.

I guess I've always enjoyed end of world scenarios and films or TV shows that depict them.

I'm not super hard to please. Really small plot holes or inconsistencies I can live with as long as they really are small in nature and few in number. The thing is, a really good story hides the smaller things like that.

So, that is where I am coming from. If your thinking is somewhere along the lines of my thinking then I think you will enjoy the 2 seasons this series has to offer. I was really disappointed after watching a few episodes to see that there was nothing after season 2.

The setting is in the UK. I'm American. So, if you are very familiar with the UK then this series may hold less attraction for you since you'd pick out things that a Brit would find odd that I may not.

An interesting thing about this series, apart from dang near every other end of world depiction, is the very, very small amount of firearms. There are some armed people. They are invariably evil while the unarmed are invariably saints. I found that to be pretty unbelievable. Nothing says don't mess with me like a gun if you are a survivor of an apocalypse. In fact, the good guys prevailed often enough just flashing a gun around that they'd acquired without having to use it.

I like the idea of a super bug wiping most of humanity out. What I didn't like, of course, is that it turns out to be an evil Big Company responsible for it. Why go there? How fresh to have it be an act of God or Nature.

Some episodes try to address ethics and morality issues.

Generally, we watch the series (mostly dramas) on HBO, Showtime and AMC. (We also watch some of the comedy series.) Downtown Abby opened our eyes to BBC series. After Luther, Sherlock, Jeckyll and Whitechapel we gave Survivors a try and loved it. Survivors is a post-apocalyptic (or near apocalyptic) story: a virus has wiped out nearly everyone save those who are immune and a select group of people who were saved by an unknown organization. The plotline vacillates between the survivors trying to survive and the Unknown Organization masterminding the future of humanity. Based on our viewership, we summarize the overall content as a better version of Walking Dead, which we stopped watching after the second season. If Walking Dead focused less on the zombies and more on how the survivors coped you would have a show similar to Survivors. Note: we realize that is a huge "if." Bottom line, we loved the show and are disappointed BBC decided not to run it for a third season.

I just loved this series. The actors were perfect in my eyes, plus a great deal of them I have saw in many things like Dr. Who/Torchwood & etc. I love watching UK shows & movies because I am from the USA, but I get sick of the same old American shows & plus I like to see a variety of different kinds of actors & they never let me down. Plus as a child I grew up through out my child hood watching Dr. Who with my best friend & we are still watching it (Smile). This show is exciting full of action & they really make you love these characters in this TV show. I just wish there were new seasons coming up.
