I watched each and every one of the shows almost back to back. In the beginning, I was a bit bored, and it was more noise than anything. However, the actors grabbed my attention. I wish the gore had been less - I shut my eyes with the discovered bodies. I really liked the main character. I also learned more about the scenes that were being presented, i.e. Great Britain in parts.

Notice that this series was made in 2001. Because of the huge demand for British content on Amazon, Netflix and Hulu, someone is digging around in the basement of the BBC and hauling up all the old tapes. I've been watching British mysteries and comedy for a very long time and I had never heard of this one. (In a weird coincidence, I had just finished watching the BBC version of Our Mutual Friend and the same actor who plays the one-legged Wegg in that, also plays the curmudgeonly and not-very-honest supervisor of the manhunt for the serial killer in Without Motive. I should also say that David Morrissey, the Governor in The Walking Dead, is also in Our Mutual Friend. Who knew?) So I'm a great believer in checking out old BBC offerings just to see what gems may be out there and have never, ever been seen before in the U.S. And I'm pretty sure Without Motive is in that category. It holds up pretty well. The lack of any kind of sophisticated forensics isn't a big problem. They do have DNA testing and it helps move the investigation along. What doesn't help this investigation is the egotism rampant among the highest ranks of the regional crime squad. These men are ruthless, manipulative, and cold. The main character, a young detective who lacks the rank but does have the skill and intelligence to solve the murders, is the reason to watch this series. He's really very good. It's rare to see a British actor (most James Bonds excepted) who exudes sexuality and, well, manliness, but he does. He's riveting to watch, especially when he's seducing his co-worker. Her character cannot resist him, even though he's bald and heading straight for middle age. In that this series follows a single killer through two seasons, it was well ahead of its time in 2001.Read more ›

Well done! I enjoyed Season 2 of Without Motive quite a bit. It was engaging and I was very interested to see this season out. Seeing Season 1 is a must, however, and I didn't enjoy that season very much at all.

I like that the crimes are not solved after one episode like most American crime dramas. That makes the plot more realistic.

This was a great series. Good acting and taunt storyline. I liked it so much I was wondering if there were more episodes out there, but apparently 12 episodes is the max. That would be season 1 and 2 on Amazon. There was conclusion in the last episode of Season 2 which was a good thing. I really hate watching a BBC crime series and the season ends with a cliff hanger, and guess what? No more seasons available...That's just wrong.

If you like police centered crime dramas, then this is for you. It was very well done, with edge of the seat suspense, and excellent acting. All those factors made it a five star series.

Unless you have hours and hours to spend waiting for a conclusion...Do not waste your $$$,wish I hadn't .Series 1 leaves you hanging after paying $14.95. They have made sure that if you want to find out the ending to this overly long and drawn out mystery, you'll have to purchase series 2.
One of the worst if not THE worst British series I have seen.

Fantastic for those of us who like police mystery. The location and unusual crime mode were great. The lead was appealing and different.
