Wow! My dream come true! Fred Rogers was a great man. I'm glad to see his work will be preserved for future generations. Thanks Ed Scherer for your comment...I didn't know they were on disc as well. Here's my origanal review for the VOD version that applies to all Mr. Rogers media:Finally! I've been waiting forever ( it's very, very, very hard to wait!)for past episodes of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood to be made available. Just when the world, children in particular, need Mr. Rogers the most, some PBS stations are playing less & less. Fred Rogers' lessons on life, humanity & growing up are more important today than ever. This is a great way to keep the Fred Rogers legacy alive. I'm hoping that DVD sets will be made available soon as this is quite a collectable item. As a side note, for those "Handyman" Joe Negri fans, he's doing well as a living Jazz Guitar legend and teaching music at U-Pitt. Get news & great CD's at joenegri.com/. Thanks again to Family Communications/Fred Rogers Co. and Amazon.com!

This is a short DVD but it is so fantastic to see the first episode of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood on DVD. Never thought I'd see it. The original NET idents are neat to see too. I grew up watching the show but had only seen the color stuff, so I liked seeing the beginning.

I do wish, though, that when I had ordered this I had realized the entire first week was available on DVD - 5 episodes at a better deal. $9.99 for a half hour of programming is a bit much though hopefully some of those proceeds go somewhere good.

I would love to see more classic Mister Rogers available, perhaps in a collection of milestones across the many years. Interviews and extras - I'm sure they're out there somewhere! - would be welcome too.

I was delighted to learn from another Amazon reviewer that this collection is available on DVD and excitedly purchased it for my three-year old. I echo all the things that the other reviewer of the this product articulated so well. It is such a relief in these tough times to still be able to find quality children's programming and to be able to present an option to my children that teaches kindness, thoughtful communication and actions, and encourages creativity while also entertaining and engaging both children and parents. I love watching Mister Rogers as much as my three-year old does! One note about this collection: given the time that it was filmed, it is of course in black and white. To modern-day children that is an unusual format and may take a bit of getting used to at first (though they fall into the groove very quickly).

If my daughter had tuned out this show, I might have had a complaint about the price. $30 for one week of programming?

The truth is, she was enraptured. A black and white show, slightly older than her father, was able to capture the imagination of a modern four year old. Impossible, I would have said, had I not seen it with my own eyes. Yes, she has a LeapPad, many modern toys, and has seen a number of Pixar movies, but this content held up.

Even I learned something watching this.

It was very exciting to see that Mister Rogers is finally available on DVD (in part). I eagerly ordered the first week (episodes 1-5) and when it arrived, watched it with my two toddlers. Fred Rogers' easy style, friendly and engaging manner, and gentle enthusiasm was evidently unaltered by any cultural changes in the 30+ years from these early episodes to the last. Cosmetically, his television house and the Neighborhood of Make Believe changed a little, but that is about it. I want to be very clear that the content of the DVD is excellent and just what I had hoped, and appropriate for today's little ones (my children enjoy these black-and-white episodes just as much as the color).

The disappointment was with the production/packaging/arranging of the DVD. It arrived in a case with a simple, sloppily adhered wrapper on it featuring some stills of Fred and company. This wrapper fell off the case within a matter of days. The other dissatisfaction that I have with the layout of the DVD is that the five episodes have no option for continuous play, so that when one segment is completed, the DVD simply stops, rather than going on to the next episode. This would be an easy option to correct, but it seems like the manufacturing of the DVD itself was done slipshod.

We loved watching the first week of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood! There is quite a lot to enjoy here, such as King Friday XIII declaring himself a thirteen-star general and having thirteen stars on his helmet (that he wears over his crown). I was amazed to see how entertaining even these earliest episodes are. Now how about the second, third, fourth, etc. weeks? Since these DVDs are produced on demand, I hope a wide variety of the early episodes will be made available!
