Excellent shorter commentary,
By Mathur Mark "Theologian and amateur philosopher" (Spanga, -- Sweden) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Second Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians (Tyndale New Testament Commentaries) (No 8) (Paperback)
I am usually quite critical on commentaries. However, the more I use Kruse's one on 2 Corinthians I become more and more glad I bought it. It is a shorter commentary, due to the format of the series, and, sure, he doesn't discuss every detail in the manner of a technical commentary, nevertheless with these conditions he does a wonderful job. One can sense that he has really worked through the text and the secondary literature (which is not true of most shorter commentaries) and gives his carefully weighed interpretation, even if there is not always room till provide the arguments. This makes it a very reliable book. He has also given space for a 55 page introduction which is clear and concise. Besides this one, R. P. Martin has a good one in the WBC-series. Don't bother about Kistemaker's contribution. Peace! |
