5.0 out of 5 stars Tomhawk LP
I was lucky to see this band live when they first toured on their debut album.
Fantastic musicians in the band.

This rating is NOT for the music, which is excellent. Instead I am rating the packaging of this particular product.

"Eponymous to Anonymous" was released exclusively to independent record shops around the world for Record Store Day 2012, and is now available through Amazon. This is a collection of the bands first three recordings, Tomahawk, Mit Gas, and Anonymous, released in vinyl format for the first time. Unfortunately, the unique design elements that made the CD releases a visual treat were not retained for the vinyl versions. For example, Mit Gas does not have the shiny foil stamping of the cover art, Anonymous does not have the ghosted printing of the hidden crows (and a lot of missing artwork), and the debut does not have the cardstock or embossing. The art is flat and lifeless, where it should have been faithful to the CD. All records are sleeved in plain white paper (no artwork inside), and LP label art share the same design, further robbing potential creativity. The box that houses these albums is flimsy.

Each of the three records features crisp, sharp sound quality. No complaints at all with the music itself or the pressings of the vinyl.

Granted, the cost would likely be higher if the packaging was more lavish, but I've seen mid-priced albums with more "flair" to their art than these. Bottom line: I want buyers to know that these LPs are not faithful replicas of the CD packaging.

-------

I did not factor this in my final rating, but I also want to point out that there is no card or code included for MP3 downloads, as many LPs now include these days. In my vinyl-collecting experience this is not uncommon for new releases of older recordings.

5.0 out of 5 stars EPIC!!!, October 15, 2012

Tomahawk is one of the best things Mike Patton has put out into the world. And Mike Patton is one of the best things music has put out into the world. Finally on vinyl record this 3 album boxset is wonderful. The actual box for the set should have been a little better put together and the sleeves for the records including the album covers need some work and look rushed but the audio more than makes up for it.
