Editorial Reviews

2012 compilation which draws together the influential Indie band's four EP releases, Feed Me With Your Kiss, You Made Me Realise, Glider and Tremolo alongside seven additional rare and previously unreleased tracks. My Bloody Valentine remain one of the most unique and thrilling bands of the last 25 years. Sonic pioneers, they stood alone in the late 80s / early 90s, their two albums sounded like nothing that had gone before. Sony. 2012.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for fans and collectors May 31, 2012
By korova
Format:Audio CD
First things first: as of the writing of this review, there's no track listing in the product description above. So here it is:

CD1
1. you made me realise
2. slow
3. thorn
4. cigarette in your bed
5. drive it all over me
6. feed me with your kiss
7. i believe
8. emptiness inside
9. i need no trust
10. soon
11. glider
12. don't ask why
13. off your face

CD2
1. to here knows when
2. swallow
3. honey power
4. moon song
5. instrumental no. 2
6. instrumental no. 1
7. glider (full length version)
8. sugar
9. angel
10. good for you
11. how do you do it

At the moment, this album, along with the other 2012 Kevin Shields remasters, is only available as a British import for some reason. So the big question for most people is going to be whether or not it's worth splashing out premium bucks for this thing, especially with the possibility of a cheaper domestic version coming out eventually.

My answer is that it depends. If you're a big MBV fan or a collector, you probably will enjoy buying this set now. It not only pulls together all of MBV's EP's, most of which are out of print or difficult/expensive to find new, it also includes a bunch of rare songs. I really dig being able to hear the evolution of the band's sound from derivative neo-psychedelia to something so massive yet ethereal yet still grounded in pop melody that it's almost indescribable. The sleeve design is cool as well. It's oversized and folds out into four panels, with each panel featuring the cover of an EP. The booklet is pretty minimal, though, containing only more EP artwork, a collage of band member photos, and a track list. There aren't any comments from the band, liner notes, or essays.

On the other hand, those new to MBV should pick up Loveless first (while you're there, be sure to read the review by Heaven_17. It's still one of the best reviews I've ever read on Amazon, even 8 1/2 years after it was written).

Bottom line: the lack of a better booklet--come on Kevin, after spending all these years remastering you could at least give us some insight into what you did!--knocks what could be a 5-star rating down to a 4-star. And keep in mind that this collection probably isn't the best starting point for new listeners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ! June 1, 2012
Format:Audio CD
This 2 cd set collects all the My Bloody Valentine EP's into one place.
Probably the most logical release in a long time from anyone- the original ep's can be quite expensive, for awhile "You Made Me Realize" was selling for over $50.
The music is outstanding and while the sound quality isn't much better than the Ep's, it really doesn't have to be.
You don't want them to remaster the sound so bad that they mess up MBV's legendary noise, we're not talking about cleaning up
cute acoustic music.
"Slow" is my favorite MBV song.
I highly recommend this release !

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Compilation June 7, 2012
By AKP
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Here's MBV's "Louder Than Bombs", and it's about time. It's ridiculous that the first 9 songs are so hard to come by, let alone the fact that I can only get the CDs from amazon.com (too hungry). My local CD/record store would charge upwards of $60 to order this in the from of a deluxe Japanese import.

A quick check between both the Tremelo and Glider EPs and this revealed no major volume shifts. The mixes seem to be basically the same, although I think the new 'digital' one's sometimes seem to contain a few pops here and there.

Disc 2's last 7 songs are also rare, some unreleased. The new stuff is awesome and could've made for great EP material.

I would recommend this to fans, especially if you don't have most of the songs anymore, like me. I think it makes for a good introduction and it's a nice set-up for "Loveless" as well - mind blown to pieces.
