The Epson PhotoPC 3000Z provides you with all the tools you need to create memorable, lasting images. Picture quality is superb--with Epson's proprietary HyPict interpolation/compression scheme, the camera's already impressive 2,048 x 1,536 (3.3-megapixel) resolution is bumped up to 2,544 x 1,904 (4.8 megapixels). The 3000Z can store images in uncompressed TIFF format, and features three levels of JPEG compression. The 3x optical zoom takes you right into the action, helping you to capture great close-ups.

The camera has shooting modes for a wide variety of situations. Macro mode allows extreme close-up photography, from 2.4 to 20 inches. The continuous shooting mode enables you to take pictures at 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 frames per second for 41, 7, and 3 consecutive shots (depending upon image quality). In interval shooting mode, the camera wakes to take shots at a user-specified interval between 10 seconds and 24 hours and then goes back to sleep. The 3000Z also offers a movie mode, which records up to 25 seconds of 15 fps 320 x 240 video as a QuickTime movie.

Most of the camera's settings are manually adjustable, from shutter speed and aperture to exposure compensation and white balance. Focus is one of the few functions that can't be set manually.

You can view your images on a television using the video port and included cable. The 3000Z also comes with a selection of software for downloading images to your computer, and for performing image manipulation and touch-up work. Also included in the box are a 16 MB CompactFlash card, serial and USB cables, video cable, lens cap, strap, soft case, lens adapter, neck strap, user's guide, four Epson AA rechargeable NiMH batteries, and charger.

The box arrived and my expectations were matched by what I found. This camera and all the included accessories, documentation and software, is exceptional. The camera went way beyond any camera I had used before. It put the Nikon 990 to shame. Every imaginable aspect was covered when the Epson designers came up with this camera. Even the Nikon does not have an external flash hot shoe!!!! Every photo was a work of art. Sharp clear, crisp, in focus. The lighting with the built in flash was good at close range, with external....using my trusty Vivitar 283, was perfect at greater distances. The menus were a breeze to use. This camera will come up to all your expectations and more. I have taught photography for over 30 years. The last year or so, I have rarely picked up my 35mm equipment. Just like the LP record has disappeared to be surplanted by CD's, digital cameras like this Epson 3000z will resoundingly surplant the "wet photography" of the past with the digital images of today. I teamed the output from this camera with an Epson 1270 photo printer......you can not tell the difference. I have used the HyPic shots to 11x14, what results, takes your breath away. Love it, does fantastic pictures. I had considered others, but went on a friend's recommendation from his Epson 850, glad I listened to him!

If you're looking for a high-quality, professional digital camera, take a real close look at the EPSON PhotoPC® 3000Z, I choose it. Because:

Forget transferring by serial cable, either use USB that comes with it or by stand alone USB compact flash reader. Add the extra storage ability of CompactFlash™ memory card over a SmartMedia card, and the built-in hot shoe for attaching an optional flash unit. The 3X optical zoom lens ranges from 35mm to 105mm gives you a little more than it's competitor, also the cameras ability to except all different battery types. And the Epson 3000Z also comes with a battery re-charger, strap and a soft case that the competitor dose not. And best of all can be bought for $50/$100 dollars less. And then there is the ease of use, check it out for your self.

I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase of the Epson 3000z, a camera that has lived up to all my expectations. I also purchased a Sandisk 128MB compact flash card to increase capacity, although the camera does come with a very generous 16MB card. The feature that sealed the deal for me is the hotshoe which allows for the mounting of a more powerful secondary flash, an absolute must if you do a lot of indoor shooting.

The camera is attractive, functional, and fits like a glove. It is incredibly simple to operate and the owner manual is clear and concise. I recommend the Epson 3000z unconditionally.
