When considering brightness, one measurement is not enough both high color brightness and high white brightness are important. Delivering 2400 lumens of color brightness and 2400 lumens of white brightness (light output),1 using Epson's 3LCD, 3 chip technology, the Home Cinema5020UB projects amazing images with true to life color. Use the included RF 3D glasses to immerse yourself in eye popping 3D movies and more. Rechargeable for up to 40 hours of battery life,2 these innovative glasses mean you're always ready to enjoy 3D entertainment. And, with 2D to 3D conversion, you can transform your favourite 2D movies to spectacular 3D,for unlimited 3D viewing. Your cable receiver, Blu ray player, game console, Apple TV, Roku Streaming Player and other entertainment devices can all be connected. And, with the widest lens shift in its class, the Home Cinema 5020UB offers fast, easy and flexible installation. Amazing Color Brightness for Brilliant Image Quality With today's high definition content, you want your movies to appear with show stopping quality in both darkened home theaters and brighter environments. One brightness number (lumens) is not enough. You need to have both high color brightness and high white brightness to have a truly impressive image. High color brightness also enables an even better image for larger screen sizes and for a larger variety of screen materials. Without sufficient color brightness, images may be muddy, soft and lose detail, even in dark room. If not provided, be sure to ask for a projector's color brightness specification. Two pairs of rechargeable RF 3D glasses included.

I had my basement refinished. I wanted a small home theater. Although $2600 is very expensive this projector is so worth it. I also purchased a 106" Mustang screen I bought off Amazon for $159 (cheap). The 1st film I watched was "Skyfall." Wow. Then I watched IMAX Hubble in 3D and was mesmerized. Then my fiance and I watched "Life Of Pi" in 3D and we both were completely blown away. I actually can't believe I have this in my house. Movies in 2D and especially 3D are phenomenal.

If you're thinking about getting a large screen TV, and love movies, don't! Get this projector and don't pay a lot for a screen. I promise you won't be sorry.

And one more piece of advice. The Valueview Samsung 3D glasses work fantastic with this projector. An they're 25 bucks! http://amzn.to/1e4Ikrh. I wrote a review on these as well...

ok, here is the deal.. I did a bunch of research on these type of things.. I was going to go for either Sony VPL-HW50ES or the 30ES.. contacted a company that would install it (with the surround and all) and they proposed to use a superior projector for less money.. and this Epson 5020UB does the trick... I bought on Amazon and saved around 200 dollars on taxes.

The tricky part is the screen... I also did a bunch of research but couldn't get any specifics on what screen would work, I didn't want to spend all this money and for 300-500 dollars less mess up the image using a cheap screen. I got a Dragonfly DF-SL-120-HC (120 in. High Contrast Projection Screen with Black Frame). I recommend this screen, but if anyone else uses this projector with a cheaper screen and loved, let us know. This screen only sells with dealers (I don't believe you can get direct from the manufacturer since I e mailed them and asked them), some guy quoted 1299 and said the MSRP was $1699, the dealer I got it from sold to me to for 999. So, just do your research.

I might edit this review since I haven't had time to check everything (specially the convert from 2D to 3D, it didn't work when I tried it)...

by the way, I use this on a really really dark room (no light what's so ever)..

I first purchased the Epson 3020 and liked it. But because of the fact the 3020 had no lens shift I decided to upgrade to the 5020UB thinking the picture quality increase wouldn't be huge. I was WRONG! Picture quality on the 5020 is FAR better then the 3020. Much more sharp and colors looked more natural. It made a huge difference in sharpness. 5020 did quite a bit better with sports then the 3020. I was completely satisfied with my Epson 5020. I owned it for 2 weeks. I would have kept it had I not found out that Epson was releasing the newer model, (The Epson 5030UB)so i returned the 5020 and pre ordered the 5030 and now I'm just waiting for it to arrive. One of the things I loved about this projector was the fact that it could take Standard Definition DVDs and still make them look really good. Better then my TV. Thanks to the THX mode it makes regular DVDs look natural. Picture is amazing even when blowing up to 120 inches. A ton of people complain about noise but I NEVER heard a thing from it. The only times I ever heard it make noise is when the lens cover opens and closes when you turn the projector on and off. Even with Iris on at High I didn't hear a thing. I suppose the only bad thing I could say about this projector is that it does release a lot of hot air so if you have a small room it might get a bit hot inside your room. I don't see this being an issue at all during winter time though. My room is naturally hot so the projector made the heat in my room worse. However it was worth it for that amazing picture quality. I connected it to my 3D/4k Pioneer Home Theater Receiver and plugged my PS3 and Cable box to it. And I was good to go. Gaming was good and fun. I didn't notice any lag at all for those of you who are hardcore gamers.Read more ›

This is my first projector and it is amazing. Simple to use and produces accurate images. The.3d is the best thing. I have it mounted on a ceiling and projecting on a 135 inch screen. If you need extra glasses for this, buy the samsung 5100 model. You can buy 5 pair for the price of one epson brand and they work just as good with this projector.

I was extremely pleased with this product. After doing much research, I decided on the Epson 5020UB. I was not disappointed. I'm quite blown away, actually. This is hands down the best projector in this price range.

Much improved picture over the Epson EMP TW-550, But one annoying artifact is when apparently switching between certain channels on the cable box the screen goes black for 3 - 4 seconds before the picture flashes back on, the same does not happen on TV sets connected directly to identical boxes in other rooms. I should note the projector is fed through a Denon AVR which very well could be the culprit, in any case it is a bit annoying.
