Great AIO Printer With Some Gotchas,
By PRG "PepDaddy" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epson Artisan 800 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer (Black)(C11CA29201) (Office Product)
I purchased this printer on 9/25/08. All in all, a really excellent AIO printer. I've been waiting for Epson to put out a printer like this with all the options I wanted in one compact package.
There are some gotchas that you won't know until you set it up. I was on the phone with Epson support for over an hour before even they realized these features weren't available. 1. The Front Panel Scan To features only works if the printer is connected via USB. It does not work at all if the printer is connected to your network either hard-wired or wireless. 2. You can only use the memory card reader on the printer if it is connected via USB. Again, this feature does not work if the printer is connected to your network. 3. Per Epson support, you cannot use both the USB and Ethernet connections together. It's one or the other. I'm going to try it anyway since it took Epson support an hour to tell me that the Scan To and Memory Card Readers only work using a USB connection. 4. On a Mac (I don't know about Windows yet), you should uninstall any Epson Scan software for any other Epson AIO's that were connected to your computer before installing the Artisan 800 software. Also, be sure to run the Epson Scanner Utility and select the appropriate connection type. It defaults to LOCAL even if you set it up as a Network printer. That was a pain in the butt since nowhere in the documentation does it tell you about this. 5. For a $300.00 printer, it should have included the Duplexer, which is a $29.00 option direct from Epson. Epson is showing no stock for the Duplexer as of 9/26/08. Also, don't be fooled into buying extra print cartridges when you buy the printer because the sales person tells you that the cartridges are only half full . Epson actually included full print cartridges with this printer. If you can live without the Scan To PC, PDF and Email features, as well as the Memory Card Reader working using a networked connection, than I highly recommend this printer. With these shortcomings, it is an excellent printer.

Epson Artisan 800,

This review is from: Epson Artisan 800 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer (Black)(C11CA29201) (Office Product)
Install was a breeze and the network capabilities are a plus. It has fax and copying capabilities and can also duplex print with the optional adapter. I haven't tried the CD printing yet but that is a nice plus also. It has a nice 7.5" front panel with a 3.5" viewing screen which works wonderfully. The multiple memory card slots are also excellent.
I have to say I was initially very disappointed with this printer though due to the quality of prints. I went through 3/4 of the color cartridges trying to get an acceptable photo quality print. I tried multiple combinations of settings but nothing worked. I tried one last thing prior to returning the printer. I purchased the Epson 5 star Ultra Premium Photo Paper. WOW what a difference this paper makes. I went from lousy spotchy dotted prints on Kodak Premium Paper to photo lab quality in an instant. I was using my previous Kodak Premium photo paper but just could not get good results. I tried straight from the camera, from the printer and from the computer trying different combinations of settings nothing worked. I was down to about a 1/4 of the original cartridges when I finally switched paper. Do not use the Kodak paper in these you will be disappointed. Kodak papers are optimized to work with Kodak inks which are not the same as Epsons. I am not sure what other papers people are using but the Epson 5 star works beautifully. I was on the edge of returning this up to that point. I am not sure how the other Epson papers work yet I am a little hesitant to try at this point. I think the manufacturers of these printers need to work together and make their papers and inks a little more interchangeable. But that is wishful thinking. Especially Kodak who are supposed to be the photo paper gods. Epson inks are definately made to utilize the Epson papers. If you want to waste a lot of ink trying to get a good print use other manufacturers papers which are optimized for their inks, or just throw out your old paper and purchase some Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper.

The plastic parts are starting to wear down,
By KarlS (Clifton, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epson Artisan 800 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer (Black)(C11CA29201) (Office Product)
This printer replaces a recently kaput home Epson Stylus Photo 890. So far, the Artisan 800 is better in every way. It has the multi-page feeder for scans and copies, a very clear control panel, it looks great, it seems to have a smaller footprint than the Epson specs suggest, and it makes labs-results-or-better photo prints on Epson premium glossy paper.
The paper tray is two levels, all plastic, and has many flimsy plastic paper guides, so it remains to be seen whether it holds together over time. The paper tray does hold 8.5x11 paper plus 4x6 or 5x7 photo paper on the second level of the paper tray, which is a plus. I've always owned Epson straight-through paper-path printers. I'm hoping this Epson folded-path mechanism works better than most of the HP printers I've used at the office. Overall, a terrific printer so far. UPDATED 11/18/08: Just tried to load Avery labels sheet(s) to print Christmas labels and return address labels for the mother-in-law. This was a NO GO. This printer cannot feed these sheets, and there is no work-around (manual feeder, etc.). When I went back to the owner's manual and to the Epson online resource, there are zero entries on how to load labels sheets. "D'Oh!" Now I know why. My recent experience with Epson online/email tech support had a three-week response time for a simple question about changing an ink cart, so I don't anticipate a response until long after I need to print labels. Very very disappointing for an otherwise terrific AIO photo printer. I would have to knock my rating down to four stars. UPDATED 08/20/10: As I anticipated in my original review, after owning this AIO for almost two years, the plastic parts are beginning to show their wear. In particular, three sections of the multi-part nesting output shelf have come disconnected from the innermost part of the shelf connected to the internals. It seems a plastic tension pin on one side came off from plastic fatigue after having to flex every time the shelf is extended upon turning the unit on, and then collapsed when turning it off before covering it. I was able to find the part online for less than [..] plus [..] shipping. I'm guessing since this part was so easy to locate online, I'm not the only one who's experienced this issue. Also, the gears/mechanism that pulls sheets through the multi-page feeder of the scanner has begun to make less-than-encouraging noises. Seems like it's a sealed unit, so there's no way to tell whether there's anything I can do to make the noise go away. Hope it keeps working, because it'd be a shame to have to replace this unit after only two years, when otherwise (except for the issue(s), above), it's been a pretty good AIO. UPDATED 02/27/11: The multi-page scanning tray capability stopped working, and nothing I could do seemed to cure the problem. Since I still had a few sets of the ink carts, I decided to replace this 3-year-old Artisan 800 with the latest-version equivalent, the Artisan 835. Got it for a really terrific price. The new one has all of the same deficiencies (plastic paper trays, plastic multi-part output shelf), but also retains (or improves upon) the 800's strengths (photo quality, smooth multi-page feeder (while it works), two-sided printing, etc.).

Lots of WOW, no Manual Feed, Very high Cost-Per-Page,
By Ruach Echad "Rob R" (Buffalo, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epson Artisan 800 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer (Black)(C11CA29201) (Office Product)
I purchased the printer two days ago when my Epson Stylus Photo R320 started having what appears to be unfixable problems (printing three of the colors).
Some things I've noted (sadly, one of which may have me returning it to the store) follow... a "+" is a good thing, a "-" is not so good... Overall, it seems like a great multi-function device, with high print quality, intuitive interface, and fast. Cost per page and inability to feed single sheets may be show-stoppers IMO. And when there are $100 options from the same manufacturer that don't have these problems, it leaves me scratching my head wondering why anyone would pay $300 (oops.. I mean $299.99)?! + Very very cool looking + Very easy to use menu.. I think even my wife can use it! + When using a memory card, very easy to review contents and print + Size is OK considering all that it does + Network setup went very smoothly (wired.. haven't tried wireless yet) + DVD/CD printing (which is what I use it most for) seems to be an improvement over older models that had detachable trays.. it loads and prints a high-quality DVD (I use Taiyo Yuden Watershield media) in about a minute each (including swaps)... on my R320 it took about 2 minutes each (loading the tray on the R320 was very very slow).. yay! Now some minuses: - NO MANUAL FEED. This is a big BIG minus to me.. want to just print one envelope to accompany your letter? You need to pull out the entire paper tray, take *out* your regular paper, put in your envelope, print it, open it up again, put in your regular paper, shut the tray. UGH! Although the device may appear to have a smaller footprint, needing to keep the entire area in front of the device clear for frequent paper-changes makes the footprint IMO much larger. - Noisy startups... - Advanced communications features (e.g. scan-to-e-mail, or scan-to-PC) only become active if directly connected to the USB on the computer (not over network). Epson should have built in SMTP support so it could directly send documents via e-mail - Availability of Ink -- great that I bought this at Office Max... but they didn't have any of the new '98' or '99' inks! If other inks are compatible, they should document this.. as for now, I'm stuck with a new printer that is pretty much dead until my new ink arrives in the mail. - Poor ink capacity I only printed 16 DVDs, and 16 case-wraps (on heavyweight matte finish paper), and it's already out of magenta (and low in others!). 32 prints and I need new ink?! Supposedly the printer shipped with new ink.. if that's the case and I can only expect 32 prints before changing carts, this puppy is going back.. the cost per page becomes WAY too rich for me. New ink: $17 per cart x 6 carts = $104 for all 6 Presuming black last longer... $17 x 5 = $85 Presuming not all the ink is used equally.. I'll estimate down... $17 x 4 colors = $68 32 prints for $68 = $2.13 PER PRINT Even if only 2 ink carts were expended in the process.. it'd be $1.06 per print. Not impressive... hopefully the "high capacity ink carts" have much much MUCH more ink in them for $17... or else it is totally not worth owning IMO. Not until 3rd party inks come out at least. 10/26/2010 UPDATE: I upgraded to the Artisan 810 after I started getting minor smears on my DVD surfaces (roller issue I think)... AND.. after using both now... I've grown to adore this... + ink, when printing DVDs, lasts a VERY reasonable time... over a hundred DVDs easily without changing carts... + 810 comes with a built in duplexer (yay!) + they added a "print to fax" driver + wireless features seem to work very well. I also learned that this printer could not print reliably well on glossy photo paper that was not Epson's own. So.. I use their photo paper when I do actually print prints on it, and they are *stunning*. Still not crazy there is no manual feed, but for my purposes, it's awesome! Also, when one of my black inks, ordered from Epson with *free overnight shipping [usually]* registered as almost empty (only happened once) Epson sent me a new ink cart promptly, and without hastle.

The best printer I've owned YET!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Epson Artisan 800 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer (Black)(C11CA29201) (Office Product)
I just got the Epson Artisan 800 a couple days ago from Amazon. It's replacing my Epson Stylus Photo R340 and the one I had before that the Epson Stylus C80. I also have a Epson Perfection 4180 Photo scanner. I have limited space, I just did some moving around and no longer have a place for my scanner. My C80 I hadn't used in years, it was just sitting taking up space, and my R340 wouldn't print correctly ever since I installed 3rd party ink cartridges. So I got into looking for a replacement and saw the new Epson Artisan printers. I was going to just get the 700, but the 800 just has more features and things like a higher Resolution when scanning and a nicer front display.
Some of the things I really like are, the Paper tray is internal, and it's a duel tray. One for your normal 8x11 and the other for your smaller Photo Paper. On the Negative of that, I wish I could have both trays using 8x11, for normal paper in one and Photo in the other as I normally use 8x11 Photo paper. I also like the built in CD/DVD printing tray. With a push of a button, it pops out front, you stick your disc on it and hit the button again and it pops back in ready to print. It's simple. With my R340 I had to use this long tray, drop down the front door for it, and line up the arrows, it would also go and stick out of the back of the printer. Sometimes I had problems getting it working correctly. On this one it's pretty Idiot prof and completely internal. The front color display is really nice and clear to read and can be placed from flat down to all the way up. You can pretty much do everything with the Printer and never have a computer hooked up to it! From printing on a CD, or removing Red Eye from a picture, loading in pictures of whatever Memory card you have from Compact Flash, SD, MSpro, and USB. There's just so many things. The Automatic 30 page Document feeder is handy and works well and it's a nice touch to just close one small flap and seal the whole top up to keep the dust out. It does scan picture BETTER when using the Flat Bed Scanner. Also unlike most Ink-jet printers and even other lower Artisan models like the 500 and 600, this one the Ink Cartridges are very simple to get to by just lifting the top part and the cartridges are on the right front of the printer always. They aren't on the printer head it's self moving back and forth with the head, they instead stay in place and a flexible multi channel tube feeds the ink though to the print head. You also have a choice in the size of ink cartridge. A normal one and a Larger size for all but Black which only comes in the larger size. As for as I know they are the same size I guess, but one holds like 60% more ink then the other. I'm currently using the USB connection, but you can also plug it into your Wired Network with it's built in Ethernet port, or use Wifi for a wireless setup. You have to have it wired to setup first and then you can go completely wireless from your PC(s). Of course you may want to plug it into your phone line for the built in Faxing Capabilities that it has also. For all of it's feature's, it's not all that large in size. About 18" across, 15 1/2" deep and like 7 1/2" in height at the highest point. You can also buy the Optional Automatic Duplexer for it, which is only $30 at the Epson store, but currently on Back Order. It plugs onto the back and allows you to print on both sides of a page Automatically without you having to flip the pages yourself. On other printers adding one can cost Hundreds, so $30 is pretty CHEAP! I plan to buy it, but like I said it's back ordered. The Black color of the printer looks nice, but it gets dirty easily. I've ordered a custom cover to put over the top of it to help. This printer is packed full of features and at a reasonable price. It can print pages quite fast! Printing out normal Text pages, and it's almost throwing them out, at laser printer type speeds. Navigating around on the screen will take some time to learn, as I'm still learning. There's so many features, it just takes time to figure it all out. This looks to be the best printer I've owned yet by far. How it holds up and prints over time I don't know. So I'll do another review in time. I'll also post a few pictures of mine.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The last time I was impressed by a printer was 1992 when I saw a 600 dpi printing coming out from an HP LaserJet 4. I cannot believe I could make professional quality printing at home. Ever since, there have been many breakthroughs in the printer technology including a high resolution color printing, I have not been surprised much. Finally, I meet a printer that makes me amazed and it is the Epson Artisan 800. Here is the story I have for you.
When I first got the printer, I was surprised by its size and look. It is big and beautiful. The color LCD touch screen is gorgeous and is very intuitive. The motorized CD/DVD tray is cool and the finish of every angle of the printer is awesome. What I like most about this printer is its wireless capability. I print wirelessly, copy wirelessly, and scan wirelessly. I can put this printer anywhere in my house and my family really likes it. The setup for the wireless connection is pretty straightforward. If you know about your wireless network (security setting and SSID), you can do it by using the menu on the LCD display. Once I put all the wireless network information by using the LCD menu, it is recognized by the installer as if it is connected by a cable. The installer works great and is very easy to follow. And this printer does all of its jobs without connecting to a computer. Specially, a scan-to-memory card feature is my favorite. By plugging a memory card (SD, SDHC, MMC, CF, or a USB thumb drive), a document or a picture can be scanned and stored in a memory card in either a JPG or a PDF format. This is so convenient. I could convert any document I have to a PDF file with just a push of a button and the files are saved in a memory card. I could do this job by using other scanners that I have, however, there are several steps that I have to follow to do the same job. My wife, who is not computer-savvy, can scan and convert a document without my help. She does not need to ask me any more to scan her documents. The Epson Artisan 800 comes with all the ink cartridges full. I know that most of inkjet printers come with cartridges that are less than half full. And it has an additonal black cartridge as a spare. I really like Epson's consideration to give one more black ink cartridge. There are 5 color ink cartridges that are separate so you can buy an individual color when it is out. The color printing on a 4 X 6 photo glossy paper is breathtaking. Although I know that the photo inkjet printer these days can produce outstanding results, I am still amazed by the quality coming out from the Artisan 800. I tested the photo printing by spilling the water on it and yes, it is water proof. I used a premium photo glossy paper from Epson and it worked beautifully. I do not understand why the other reviewer got such a miserable result. I used a default setting and pushed a button on LCD screen to print out from the memory card directly from my digital camera. And the result was one of the best I have ever seen. I compared a photo from the Artisan 800 with the photo came from the Canon Pixma MP610 side by side and the photo from the Artisan 800 is a little more yellowish and darker if I insist to find the difference. However, the quality of the picture is amazing and many of my friends were surprised by the quality (I printed many pictures and gave those to my friends as gifts). The feature that I also like is a CD/DVD printing. I ordered a printable DVD from Verbatim and it produced remarkable results. The printing on the DVD dried very quickly and it never got smudged. The CD/DVD printing software that came with the Artisan 800 is not the best but it is OK to use. Most of my friends that I showed the printed DVD thought that the DVD was pressed from the factory. It is that good. However, the Artisan 800 is not perfect. It still jams paper sometimes, not frequently though. And sometimes it gets frozen when I insert a USB memory stick. It seems like it gets frozen while it is reading many files that are not recognized by the Artisan 800, however, I am not 100% sure. Once it gets frozen, I have to power cycle it. And scan-to-email and scan-to-PC only work when the Artisan 800 is connected by the USB cable. Because of these reasons, I give 4 stars, not 5 stars for this product. Overall, this is the best printer I have owned so far. I have had many printers at home and at work and no other printer amazes me like the Artisan 800. I have never had any printer that leaves all my family members impressed. My 8 years old daughter loves to play slideshows on a beautiful LCD screen and my son likes to use the scan-to-memory card feature to send his homework assignment to a friend who forgot the sheet. I heartly recommend this printer to any one who is looking for an all-in-one printer that does all the job wirelessly and flawlessly.

It scans over the network too!,
By Casey (San Jose, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epson Artisan 800 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer (Black)(C11CA29201) (Office Product)
It was not clear to me whether this printer could scan over the network. Even the 4th bullet under Amazon's "Features" section states only that it will print over the network:
Wi-Fi® support -- built-in wired and wireless networking; print from any room One of the reviewers even mentioned that it does not scan over the network, but I was tempted by the price and purchased one last week. To my surprise, it prints and scans over the network, both wired and wirelessly! What's more, on Windows, any Flash memory card you insert will appear as a local disk through the network! This feature is not available on Mac. I have a mixed Mac and PC network at home, and was able to set up the printer to work wirelessly on all computers. However, I ran into a problem, but managed to find a workaround. The steps below may help those who are having difficulties: 1. Insert the Epson CD into a PC and click the Install button. 2. Choose the "Network" install option when asked. 3. Choose "Install printer for the first time on this computer" when asked. 4. This will start an 8-step network setup utility. I was only able to get to step 5 (if I recall correctly) where wireless network settings were sent to the printer and the PC was subsequently checking whether the printer was visible on the network. This step always timed out. 5. I exited the network setup utility at this point and re-ran the "Install" option in step 1. 6. When the installer got to step 3, I choose the option to install the printer on another computer. 7. The network setup utility successfully went through all steps. Because of this installation problem I was going to give the product 4 stars, but my huge surprise over the ability to scan and mount flash cards over the network completely overshadowed the one-time inconvenience of installation.

Warning - DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER...,
By
This review is from: Epson Artisan 800 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer (Black)(C11CA29201) (Office Product)
I purchased this printer in mid November and it was miraculous. It has a great UI, makes beautiful pictures, and does everything well... UNTIL...
A week after New Years, I was going to make a B&W copy of 2 pages, and that's where my problem started. It made a noise and started to pull the first page in, and then it stopped. The whole thing turned off, and there was a burning smell coming from the printer. I immediately unplugged it in fear that it would catch on fire. I tried plugging it back in, and turning it on, with no luck... it was dead. I tried the online help wizard, and it sent me straight to the call customer support screen. They asked me the same questions over and over for 30 minutes, and then forwarded me to a customer relations agent who set me up with a shipment of a new unit, and an RMA label... After a week, I called them to check on the status and they had just shipped a replacement unit THAT DAY, 9 DAYS LATER, via FedEx ground. from California....to Maine... The replacement arrived today. I was excited to unpack it and get it working again, but good things were not meant to be. I removed the cling wrap and dozens of pieces of blue tape and followed the setup instructions to get this thing working... I excitedly set the date, the time, the daylight savings setting, and then got to the moment of truth... loading the ink!!! This is where it went downhill for me, and apparently for many more poor souls just like me. As soon as I opened the top, it seemed to try to do something, and then "ERROR!!! Please shut off the unit, and power it back on to continue." I did as instructed, then reset the time, date, etc... again... Then ERROR!!!!! Oh My, this can't be good.... Over and over I tried.... same thing. I took out the trays, searched for a missing piece of blue tape, to no avail... then off to Google to see who else had this problem and what was the solution... not good news. Looked like it would need to be returned. ... So, I dutifully called the Epson support line, and bumped myself up to a cheery level 2 support fellow, who proceeded to ask me questions that didn't appear relevant to this model of printer, such as whether the ink sled moved when I opened the printer (it doesn't move) and whether the cover was not secured properly over the ink (there isn't one, unless you count the top of the printer)... We checked for errant pieces of packing materials, and jammed paper (even though I'd told him I hadn't gotten to that step yet), but we must humor the tech support folks to get our reward... After 40 minutes of fiddling and holding, it looks like I'll be getting a 3rd unit overnighted to me.... I'll let you know how it goes... I so want to enjoy this thing... It is so glamorous, yet I am stuck putting my old HP OfficeJet back in service for at least a few more days... I think I may just store the old HP in the basement instead of donating it though... just in case...

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have muddled my way through crappy printers for many years. Usually, they've been part of a promotion of some sort with the purchase of a new computer. They've served their purpose - printing some photos and documents - but never with great skill or results.
I hooked the Epson Artisan 800 up last night and from the second I turned it on, I was wowed. My son said "Whoa, that's cool." For someone used to having a lit up color display screen I'm sure this would be no big deal but for us, it got quite a reaction. The screen is large and actually displays the photos you're about to print. So in order to play with it ASAP we decided to just plug in the SD card from my camera and start printing using the photo paper samples that came in the box. (It will also print on printable CDs and DVDs and there is a sample CD included, too.) So we put in the SD card, started navigating using the touch screen and within one minute had selected the photo, cropped it, loaded the photo paper, and printed it all without opening the manual. It's pretty darned intuitive. Now, I did load the photo paper upside down the first time so the ink/toner was just sitting atop the paper and never dried. I tried again with the paper correctly placed, and the photo was INCREDIBLE. We were wowed. Next, we tried the scanner. We opened up a magazine, set it on the scanner bed, and again, using the VERY easy-to-use touch screen display, had the page scanned within a minute. It showed the scan right on the display screen. We chose to save the scan to the SD card already in the printer so then we printed the scan to plain paper and it also turned out nicely. The scan wasn't as good as I was hoping but after playing around a little bit more with the scan settings available on the screen, we ended up with a much better print out from the scan after a few more minutes. Once past the easy stuff, I opened the booklet that showed how to network the printed. I was hoping I could just turn it on, press some buttons, and it would find my wifi and that would be it. It was a little more complicated unfortunately. But not too complicated. It took about 20 minutes to get it up and running wirelessly and the connection through the wifi seemed pretty responsive and quick. There was a slight delay in printing compared to when I hardwired it to the computer but that does make sense and it wasn't so bad that it bugged me or disappointed me in any way. So end result is I have a very cool printer set up in a room untethered to any of my computers that anyone can print to from any room, any computer. Maybe my expectations are too low but I found it quite wonderful to be sitting in the living room, printing a spreadsheet, walking to the room with the printer, and the document already sitting there. No fuss. I've not faxed and probably won't but I can imagine how this will come in handy when say, a buddy from school calls and has forgotten his homework. We can fax it straight to their email address! Haven't tried the copy function yet either. I'll update when I do. UPDATE 11/6/2009: This all-in-one printer is still doing a great job. We print stuff every day and it's going strong. I've replaced all the toner cartridges twice since I first got it. They're not cheap but I still feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Also, I've since used it as a copier and it's terrific. My son brings home his sheet music and we make a copy (for personal use of course) to keep at home just in case he forgets to bring the originals home for practice. LOVE this printer.

The Epson Artisan is a great all around printer!
One of my favorite features of this printer is the ability to print directly onto printable DVDs and CDs. Epson has finally gotten it right with this printer. The print to disk surface function works much better. With previous printers (R200, R340, & R1800) the disks were placed on a tray that was manually set into place. In the past I had many misprints because the tray did not get correctly aligned by me the user. The Artisan 800 has a fixed tray that comes out when a button is pushed. The same button needs to be pushed to retract the tray and allow the printer to print to disk. I have had no problems with misprints with this printer. I also believe the quality print is higher. Epson has also finally improved the print to disk software. I find that it is much easier to use and has less "lag time" when moving from one step to the next. The copier works well and the buttons are very intuitive. For an inkjet printer I feel the copy speed and print quality is very good. As a general document printer again the speed is quite good. Additionally, the inks dry quickly and doesn't smudge even when fresh from the printer. The color and print quality is wonderful. For every day photo printing this is an excellent printer. If you are looking for something to print higher end photos I would really encourage you to look at one of Epson's wide format printers. While styling of the printer itself is one of my least important traits this printer does have nice lines and looks very sleek. But don't buy it because of its looks. Also, don't think just because it looks good on the outside that it is not a work horse on the inside. This is a great all around printer that is a great tool for someone running a small business, who needs to be able to fax from home, is a photo enthusiast, or someone that needs a good all around printer. This is the 5th Epson printer that Ihave owned and it is by far the most versatile. I firmly believe that it will be as reliable as all the other Epson that I have owned that are now still being used by kids and grandkids. Update 6/12/2009 I still really like this printer and have found it very reliable. - It does take a bit long to warm up and print or copy but not to the point of annoying. - It is working fine even after 8+months of use - I don't like it for photo printing but for every day stuff it is great - this is still by far the best direct to disk print that I have seen from Epson (I have owned 4 other epson printers with this ability) Final word -- I like it Update 08/12/2010 I have had a major problem with an error message saying there is a paper jam in the feeder for the fax. This has prevented me from faxing or using it as a copier. I have tried lots of things and gone to epson's page and have had not found a solution. |
