Not bad for a $99 printer,

I bought Epson 777i mainly because of its USB connectivity and price. I agree with another reviewer about the phsical size of the printer: though not bulky, it does take up space. Easy installation and setup, good printing quality and a hard-to-beat retail price make this printer a good bargain. Fyi, Epson 777 and 777i printers are identical except for the printer lid and color.

As far as the physical dimensions...,

I bought this printer hoping it would be somewhat compact (as it had been advertised). However, it is not compact and feels quite large. The design is compact, yes, it is not bulky. But, it is big. People who live is small apartments might find this information useful.

This is my 4th Epson printer and as usual, I am very happy. The installation was the easiest I've ever seen. I bought this one because of the price and the print quality..my Epson Stylus 740 seemed to be out of style. :) ( But STILL working with no problems ) I have been very happy with not only the black and white photos I've printed but the color as well. For the price..jump on it!

Cheaply made, expensive to ink; quick to throw out,

The cartridges are expensive and run out very quickly. Changing cartridges requires a study of multiple lights -- is one flashing or not? The paper loader is finicky. It finally jammed in a way that it could not be fixed and, if it could, it would not be worth the cost of the repair. Best news is that my retailer exchanged the now-useless cartridges, of which I had to keep four in stock. No wonder this model has been discontinued. To those who own one, per the science officer in 'Alien': "You have my sympathies."

Rethink purchasing this printer,

I've been using my epson 777i for nearly 6 months with my iBook. I'm pretty unhappy that the printer will not print without both cartridges being well stocked. I cannot switch to only black ink printing if my color cartridge is out. Cartridges are unable to be refilled, alternate cartridges cause problems with the program, and I am not able to print out nearly the amount of pages as advertised, even when using economy mode. The printer quality is good, but The cartridges run out so fast and are quite expensive when you have to replace them twice as much. I'm already thinking of replacing it and getting rid of it. There is no way to know when your ink is dangerously low, and it will not print if the ink is getting near low, which means you cannot run the cartridges to the last drop...a feature I appreciated in my last printer. SUMMARY: There are better printers out there that have lower maintenace costs. Shop around.

OK, it's kind of noisy, but for this price and this quality, close the door! Generic cartridges can't be used, but that is becoming more and more normal with all brands of printers. I print a lot of notes and figures every day and have only replaced the cartridge once. Actually, the first cartridge seemed to run out quickly, but the latest one has lasted forever! I think I touched the chip the first time, but I don't know if that's what caused the problem. Also, although the ink saver setting is a little too faint to use for most projects, you can choose your own ink settings to get something that is darker than the saver mode, but uses less ink than the quick mode.

Uneconomical, even for moderate printing jobs,

An Epson 777i came bundled w/ my girlfriend's Apple iBook. It produces very clean and crisp text. Unfortunately, the black ink cartridge runs out after about 150 pages. This printer is fine for users with limited printing needs, otherwise it's a costly choice.

Epson Inkjet Printer 777i is a Lemon,

I am very disappointed with my printer. While updating my Macintosh software, the printer drivers disappeared. As a result, I am unable to print. I do not have Internet on my iMac, so I will have to download the printer drivers from the Internet on another computer, burn a disc, and try to reinstall the printer drivers. My old Mac printer (Color Stylewriter) used black cartridges that were around $8.00 a piece. You didn't need to have a full color cartridge to print. In fact, I never used the color cartridge again--it was just a place holder. This Epson printer uses both your black and color cartridges so you run out of both expensive cartridges much faster. Pretty dirty marketing/manufacturing tactic, in my opinion. My sympathies to all of you who own one of these. To those of you who are thinking of buying one: Don't.

Excellent home use printer,

This printer has excellent output in both color and BW while maintaining good economics. When this printer first came out, you could only purchase Epson replacement cartridges. Now you can purchase after market cartridges and/or reprogramming kits for the "chip" embedded in the ink cartridge making this an extremely economical printer. I recently purchased a color and BW cartridge.... I agree with the other consumers that the printer is a little noisier than a laser jet, but not much more than other ink jets in this price range. For economical printing and ease of finding replacement cartridges on the web, I would highly recommend this printer.

Nice print quality, but unfortunate ink cartridges.,

Like most of Epson's printers, the 777i offers outstanding photo print quality, even on regular paper. Unfortunately, the small, overly proprietary cartridges used by the 777i make it less than ideal for someone who plans to do quite a bit of printing. Ink costs escalate rapidly, so I would suggest looking into a printer with larger ink cartridges that are offered at a good price by Epson or alternative ink vendors. Always check the ink situation before you buy an inkjet printer.
