5.0 out of 5 stars Epson moviemate 25 a dream projector!
What a great all-in-one projector. We have had this projector for a week and it has been used every night since we received it.

It has a excellent crisp picture in true 16X9 format.
The two ten watt speakers and 40W subwoofer in 5.1 sound is incredible for the size of the unit.

1.0 out of 5 stars A little false advertising...
I bought this projector because I wanted a complete projector and dvd player that would fit in my living room. Epson boasts of getting a wide screen projected from as little as 6 feet away from the wall, so I thought this would be perfect. They even show pictures of it being used on a coffee table to project on the wall.
Well, when I got it up and running, I...

What a great all-in-one projector. We have had this projector for a week and it has been used every night since we received it.

It has a excellent crisp picture in true 16X9 format.
The two ten watt speakers and 40W subwoofer in 5.1 sound is incredible for the size of the unit.

We have not used the 80" included screen, but it does just fine on a bare wall.

The remote is easy to use, the only downside is that it would have been nice if the remote came illuminated.

The projector comes with a video and audio in jack as well as an S input. It has an audio digital optical out as well as a headphone output jack. Again, it would be nice if they would have included RCA audio out jacks to connect to a non-digital amplifier.

I was impressed with the warranty Epson offers, a two-year warranty on the unit, 90 days on the bulb. Most projectors are only one year. Epson will also offer a replacement projector while yours is being serviced, and they pay for shipping. I feel they really stand behind their product.

For these reasons, I would say "Go get one". You'll enjoy it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT OVERALL PROJECTOR, January 9, 2006

My wife gave this to me as a Christmas gift and it is great. We have created a media room in a smallish spare bedroom, and what a great room this has become. If you are worried about the picture or sound quality, don't. The picture quality is great. There are 4-5 settings from bright to theater black. Our room is pretty dark so we use the theater black setting and the picture is awsome. Our projector is behind the seats and the sound sounds as if it is coming from the screen. If you need a great projector with built in DVD and speakers this is the only choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars GET THE EPSON MOVIEMATE, BUY ELSEWHERE, April 10, 2006
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Epson Moviemate 25 Projector DVD & Music Player Combo (Electronics)
I am victim no.107 or thereabouts. I received the projector and subwoofer but no screen--like nearly everyone else who have voiced their experience, and the hundred some odd silent ones. I have nothing negative to say about the projector and/or subwoofer as they are definitely a great buy (assuming addition of screen) at under a grand. I had the Optoma MovieTime DV10 and the Epson is an all around better product (exclusion of component out is only bummer).

Unfortunately, Amazon repeatedly refused to take responsibility for the fact that the screen did not ship with the rest of the order; they first suggested the shipper was at fault, then they said it was the manufacturers responsibility and suggested I contact them to resolve the issue. The number they provided me with led to a recorded message from Epson that they were no longer offering telephone support on that line. Amazon offered to refund the purchase price but I don't want a refund, I just want the screen. And since the price jumped $200 overnight, I would be at a loss attempting to re-order. At one point I accepted an offer to replace the order (hope was that screen would ship with it this time). I hung up the phone with the promise that a new unit was going to be shipped. The next day I received an e-mail that rescinded the offer altogether, AGAIN suggesting that I contact the manufacturer! After several calls and too much time wasted I received an e-mail that stated the screen was located and would be shipping soon. 3 business days later I have yet to hear from Amazon or shipper.

My advice: Get the Epson Moviemate 25, it's an awesome deal for anyone looking for an entry level theater experience with an easy setup, and portable to boot. JUST DON'T BUY IT FROM AMAZON. BUY DIRECT FROM EPSON.

5.0 out of 5 stars Additional Features to consider, January 15, 2006
This review is from: Epson Moviemate 25 Projector DVD & Music Player Combo (Electronics)
I'm very happy with Moviemate so far. I was pleasantly surprised by features not mentioned in other reviews.
- Plays MP3 CDs, 12 hours or more of music on an MP3 CD created on your computer or purchased. The onscreen display is nice and complete, as well as the built-in console display of track information including titles. The onscreen display is easily turned off (even with the remote!) to preserve lamp life turning the unit into a great sounding tabletop music player with sub-woofer and remote that will play all day long.
- Sleep timer. The sleep timer is very useful in "tabletop music player" mode above. The unit can be set to automatically turn off at up to 150 minutes or whenever the program ends in "auto-standby" mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Home Theater alternative, January 8, 2006

This is an excellent product. The MovieMate has "wow" factor ... your friends will be impressed. Our family purchased the MovieMate 25 as an alternative to installing a home theater in our family room. It's a lot cheaper, and it's portable. You'll love it.

If you enjoy watching movies, you'll use the MovieMate regularly. However, the machine has the interesting effect of making bad movies seem not so bad. The picture quality is surprisingly good.

I haven't been able to figure out how to run TV signal through the MovieMate yet, but I was able to set it up with our video game system. For tv shows, we have the Humax Tivo with DVD burner, so we just transfer the show to a DVD and then watch it on the big screen.

We have used the 80 screen in our family room, plus brought it to a friend's house for a slide show. It's bulky, but still useful. However, after we got the MovieMate, we realized that the picture quality was still excellent on the wall. So we are using our living room as a movie theater too when we're in the mood. This permits us to watch an image that is 6 feet wide and 10 feet tall. Trust me: it's awesome. Our 2 year old walks up to the "screen" and just bangs on the wall without incident (rather than the screen). Very convenient.

Note: the first MovieMate we got didn't work (drive malfunction). Epson replaced it in 48 hours by express delivery at no cost to me.

Only drawback I can foresee is the cost to replace the lamp. Epson says the lamp will last for 2,000 hours, but who really knows?

In sum, if your family enjoys watching movies, this is a great alternative to setting up a home theater. No wires, no wall installations, no plasma television to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The search for good home cinema ends here!!!!, April 6, 2006
This review is from: Epson Moviemate 25 Projector DVD & Music Player Combo (Electronics)
Just received the Epson Moviemate 25 with free screen last week- the screen is 80' and poor quality. Actually mine was broken but Amazon will send me a replacement. For now I am projecting the image on a big vacant wall in the basement. The quality of this projector will blow you away- it is just like sitting in a theatre- I am rewatching all my favourite movies and noticing so many things I never did although I have seen them many times on my 32' Sony tube HDTV. I highly recommend getting this projector- it is easy, lightweight and portable, economical at under $1000, inbuilt DVD player and speakers/subwoofer-although I do admit sound can be better. There is no need to spend $2-3K for a plasma/DLP/LCD TV - who wants to watch news in big screen- it is depressing enough on small screen. Plus if you have an HDTV tuner/antenna- you can probably connect it to the projector input - although I have not tried it as yet!!

I admit I was a bit worried when I read the review that a buyer did not get the screen delivered. Originally, the projector/subwoofer arrived in a single box without a screen. It was UPS' fault, however, since the screen is delivered in a separate container as a separate shipment (and they returned later that day with the package when they realized their mistake).

The unit is very impressive and we have had many guests come over to watch movies. I like the four different color modes which accomodate different levels of ambient light (from a moderately-well lit room to complete blackness). We have successfuly connected our Xbox and even our video iPod with surprisingly decent results. However, if you wish to connect your computer, you will have to use a computer-monitor-port to S-video/RCA-video port adapter (like Dazzle, etc.).

This product is well worth the cost as I have been looking to create a home theater for over a year and had resigned myself to spend 3x to 5x as much. Besides spending less than I planned, by being portable, the Moviemate has allowed me to show movies in ways I did not original intend. Our kids recently had "movie night" outside with the image shown against the garage door and invited the neighborhood kids.

This all-in-one package has been a delight! I highly recommend the Moviemate 25!

I bought the Moviemate because I wanted a large screen for movies and watching sports, but did not want a bulky and expensive television set. I have only had the Moviemate for a few days, but I am impressed. You can use the built in DVD Player, or you can hook it up to another DVD Player. This allows you to use your audio system, which in my case provides complete surround sound. I have also hooked it up to my HDTV Cable Box using the S-Video connection. Very simple to set up with your other equipment. The screen is great also. I am planning to install a permanent screen on the brick wall of my family room. Ideally, it would be 48"X74". If anyone has any suggestions for creating this screen, please e-mail me. You cannot beat the price for what you get. [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Start for a Home Theater System, May 22, 2006

This package has it all and it is a great system for beginners. I have a small living room and I did not want to move furniture around or clear a wall. You don't need to rearrange a thing when using this system. Just pull up the screen, plug in your projector and subwoofer and you are ready to go. The 80 inch screen is a great addition in this package. When you are done, you can hide the screen under a bed and hide the projector away in a closet. There are some negatives as it is not HDDVD compatible, and it does not accept component inputs. But most people will simply use it to watch regular dvds or hook up one's own video game system. It is an all-in-one system that is inexpensive and a great introduction to home theater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epson Moviemate 25 Projector, February 24, 2007
This review is from: Epson Moviemate 25 Projector DVD & Music Player Combo (Electronics)
I got mine refurbished. After weeks of reviewing websites about projectors, I decided to give this one a shot. I bought a 92 inch screen and the picture looks awesome. I was a little worried about the so-called "screen door effect" that many had mentioned (due to the lower resolution), but that is not a big deal to me for the price range. I don't even notice it unless I'm trying to see it.
The first movie I played in it was Pearl Harbor. That war scene in the harbor with the Moviemate connected via optical cable to my surround sound, gave me goosebumps. I never have to go to the movies again. It really is like having your own theater at home.
We also hooked up my sons Playstation 2. That is pretty cool, too.
The speaker sound w/ the subwoofer is pretty good, too.
All of the other features and the remote I like, also.
I have my Moviemate about 12 feet from the screen to fill the 92 inch diagnal screen.
Oh, the adjustable lens is so cool. Its the only projector I've seen with this feature and I don't know why. It really comes in handy to center the picture where you want it.

I recommend this product for anyone looking for a projector. For a few hundred more dollars, you can get one with a higher resolution so the picture is "crystal" clear, but you'll be lacking a lot of the other cool features.
