4.0 out of 5 stars So far, So Good
I purchased this all in one when my Brother MFC died. One thing that this printer has in common with the Brother is the fact that the ink system has seperate colors and the printer head isn't built into the cartridge. I don't really like that so much, but the printer does everything I want it to do, and Epson has historically produced good printers. I like the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice quality for the price but they get you on the ink
I've had this a couple months. It prints fine but I am not thrilled about the ink system. There's a black and then 3 individual colors and if even one color is out, you can't print anything. When black was out, it wouldn't even let me print text in color. DO NOT try to buy compatible ink replacements because they won't work. That is a pain. I talked to Cartridge...

I talked to Cartridge World about refills and they said once the low ink signal comes up, it's too late to refill because it triggers an electronic thing that they can't fix and the printer won't recognize it. So Epson really has you pinned on the buying their name brand ink. Best deal is at Best Buy - black single is $15.59 and colors are $11.49 each. That beats online prices. But I sure go through it...I print a lot of letters with photos and stuff like that.

I don't really like that so much, but the printer does everything I want it to do, and Epson has historically produced good printers. I like the following this about this printer: 100 Page Fax Memory, Button to switch between copy/fax, Flatbed and Sheet Feeder, It looks good (doesn't look cheap). What I don't like about this printer: The ink/printer head system, No Backlight on LCD, No Ethernet option. you get what you pay for, and for the money, I think this printer is a good deal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slow as mud, Expensive Ink, November 14, 2008
This review is from: Epson NX300 All-In-One Printer Print/Copy/Scan/Fax (Black) (Office Product)
I got this all-in-one in a package deal with a camera. I have been using Canon printers for the last eight years or so. Compared to the Canon the Epson is really slow and the inks cost about 25% more and run out faster. The scanner works fine.

3.0 out of 5 stars For A Disposable It's Worth It, October 2, 2009
This review is from: Epson NX300 All-In-One Printer Print/Copy/Scan/Fax (Black) (Office Product)
I had an Epson previously and loved it. Then I got a Lexmark. Very expensive cartridges. I saw this for a steal price at Sam's Club (sorry Amazon) so got it. It's very easy to set up (it didn't come with a USB cable so I used the Lexmark's). The instructions and software are very good.

I had a very large document to print. Fifteen pages in it crushed 2 pages. I couldn't find in the Epson software how to print these 2 pages. I called tech support. The tech had no clue once he actually understood what I wanted to do. I got his supervisor. She was smart, understood, knew, explained you now go through your word processing program. Great.

Printed out the entire 250 pages with no further issues. It's not dark dark and I would prefer to see the black more saturated but I don't see where to tweak that function. I also don't know how to turn the printer off. Pressing the on button doesn't do it. Whatever it is it's counterintuitive.

I ordered some generic cartridges for $7 each, buy 2 get 1 free, free shipping. Always used generics with the last Epson and never had a problem. Get the best deal possible on ink and you'll be a happy person.

So I think of this as a disposable--it's a delivery system for ink. If it lasts a year it owes me nothing at the price I paid. This is something for home use, not high volume for office use but it's a decent printer with all the scan/copy/fax functions you could want.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap & Sloooooooow, September 18, 2009
This review is from: Epson NX300 All-In-One Printer Print/Copy/Scan/Fax (Black) (Office Product)
Yes, it is a cheap printer and I bought it just for the scanning feature. Cheap Flatbed Scanners are around $80. So the Epson NX300 for $47 at Sam's Club is the cheapest scanner I could find. And so far it scans just fine for my purposes... Mostly backup documents at 300dpi resolution.
However, I feel their advertisment about the print speed is misleading... (I know, they do have a fine print saying that the speed is estimated for draft mode... but who really reads the fine print, especially when you are at the store looking at the box and would need reading glasses to read it). Under regular printing (not even high quality), take the advertised speed and divide it by about 20 and you will be there. So the estimated 30ppm for b/w comes out to be about 1.5ppm. This makes it by far the slowest printer I have ever owned. If I would have bought it as a primary home or office printer, it would go back to the store tomorrow.
Now to the cost of ink... at the moment it doesn't matter which printer you buy. Printer ink from ALL printer manufacturers is expensive and that is an understatement. If you calculate the cost of ink per cartridge and convert these tiny amounts into gallons your price will be around $5,000 /gallon printerink. No, this is not a typo. I meant fivethousand!!!! Doesn't matter if it's an HP, Epson, Canon, etc. (Well, maybe Kodak printers... They have the cheapest inkprice per cartridge: You get a doublepack of black for about $10 at Sams for the Kodak, but I have not researched enough how much they hold or if they just put a very small amount in their cartridges to warrant the price) Refilling is no longer easy for new printers and their cartridges, since all these Epson, HP, Canon stuff is now microchipped. So you can't refill, the printer knows and refuses to print unless you know how or invest into software that is able to reset / reprogram that dreaded ink cartridge chip. These new cartridges also have an expiration date. So you can not stockpile cheap ink. When the expiration date arrives, the cartridge will be unusable (= reads empty) even though it is brand new out of the box. Some printers, like my HP Officejet Pro L7590, croak if you put aftermarket cartridges in it!!! (I am now on the third replacement from HP for the L7590.. So far free hence under warrenty!) I suggest to hold on to your old inkjets. They usually print fine, so does my 7 year old HP deskjet 990cse and it has the old fashioned, non-microchiped, easily refillable cartridges that are still available. And it prints faster then the brandnew Epson NX300!

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Light-Duty Printer, February 18, 2009
This review is from: Epson NX300 All-In-One Printer Print/Copy/Scan/Fax (Black) (Office Product)
Printers are not created equal. If you require something that can rapidly crank out photos or have other high volume needs, look elsewhere and expect to pay more. I bought one of these at Sams for less than $50. At that price, it's a good deal. Set up was smooth (with Windows XP) and it works fine. Print quality is good and reasonably quick. The scanner/copier has a document feeder and that also works well. One caution, it doesn't come with a USB cable. For occasional light-duty printing, this model seems a good value.

3.0 out of 5 stars Suitable Quality for the Price, September 1, 2009
By
Raquel (Murray, UT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epson NX300 All-In-One Printer Print/Copy/Scan/Fax (Black) (Office Product)
I purchased this printer about a week ago from Wal-Mart for $49. Although I have a very nice Epson printer/scanner, I don't have a fax and thought that would be a nice feature. I wasn't really expecting much considering the price. The scanner works great and at the same speed that my nicer Epson works. I haven't had the need to utilize the fax. As far as the actual printing process...

PROS:

*Comes with ink
*Attractive body
*Quality prints - documents (haven't used it for any photo or picture printing yet)

CONS:

*Excruciatingly slow. I mean HUGELY slow. I am pretty sure the old school word processor printer we had when I was a kid, the one that had to go over each line 2+ times printed faster than this. When reviewers are saying it is slow, they aren't kidding - you will notice a significant difference in speed from what you are probably used to.

*Doesn't come with its own USB connection so make sure to add the cost of that when you're looking at the overall price.

NEUTRAL:

*Sound - I wouldn't by any means claim that this printer is whisper quiet, but the noise it produces hasn't been something I've really noticed as exceptionally loud or annoying (as other reviewers have commented). I have 4 little kids though so I'm accustomed to an overall noisy environment and may just not notice it as much as someone else.

OVERALL:

In my opinion, just getting the fax option and the ink made it worth it. Buying ink refills for my other Epson would have cost me at least half the price of what I paid to get this whole package. It doesn't have any of the cool photo features my other Epson has, so I wouldn't recommend it if your primary interest is printing photos but for just regular printing of school assignments, forms, etc. it is a great, inexpensive choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for School/Home Projects, June 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Epson NX300 All-In-One Printer Print/Copy/Scan/Fax (Black) (Office Product)
The other reviews are correct about the level of noise and speed however if those qualities are low on your list then this printer is a great buy.

I purchased it for the purpose of printing school work and scanning film pictures. The resolution is just of good quality and my school prints perfect. The copy function has turned into a great accent that I had not forseen. It helped to isolate book pages from several books to assist me in studying for a test. The fax function will not be used. It was extremely easy to use and set up. The instructions were intuitive. It works just fine with my Apple laptop.

This printer is very noisy and is incrediably slow, however for the price, I was willing to accept those negative qualities. If you are looking for fast and quiet for a small business, this is not your printer.

For home or school projects I totally recommend this printer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Crippled by Epson, September 8, 2010

Have had this All-In-One for nearly a year now. This printer doesn't get a lot of use, and thankfully I haven't had any clogged printhead issues.

But that being said - While this printer will accept the #68 black (High Capacity) cartridge, it will NOT accept the #68 cartridge (contrary to the Office Depot worker that recommended that particular part number...ugh).

Mechanically, the printer has no reason not to use the High-Capacity inks. But as is typical for some printer makers, why allow the consumer to use the less expensive ink?

Avoid the #88 cartridges - they won't last you more than a handfull of prints. The #69 "standard capacity" cartridges are still rather anemic compared to other brand's individual ink carts.

With printer prices still falling, you can get a better printer that WILL accept the high-capacity tanks - including from Epson. Your wallet will thank you!

One other comment - printing with this printer is SLOW.

Quality of prints is about average.

Don't think I will buy another Epson. My experiences with Canon products have been better.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far so good, November 25, 2008
This review is from: Epson NX300 All-In-One Printer Print/Copy/Scan/Fax (Black) (Office Product)
Sure it's a bit slower printing than my last HP Photosmart. Also got it in a package deal. Sure the inks are abit more expensive. But my desk has a lot more room now that my printer and scanner are in one package. Easy to set up, quiet, and good-looking not clunky. Haven't tried printing photos yet though. So far so good.
