3.0 out of 5 stars Limited Scanning Capabilities
I recently purchased the Epson V350 scanner mostly to scan old 35mm negative film strips and 4x3 and larger photo negatives. Some of my rolls of negatives have 36 exposures making the automatic scanner unusable since it will only scan up to 6 photo negative segments.(My rolls of film are historic in nature and I will not cut them into 6 exposure segments) It also will not...

The Epson V350 scanner works very well indeed! I got this mostly so that I could scan 35mm negatives and slides. It has a nifty feature where you feed up to six negatives into a feeder on the cover and hit the auto scan mode and it does everything automatically! After a few minutes, your images appear in "My Pictures" (on PCs -- "Pictures" on Macs). For slides there is a holder for two that snaps into the scanner bed and again, in auto mode, it locates them and in a few minutes, you have them. I just got this thing yesterday and it just couldn't be easier. In the full auto mode, it recognizes anything that you want to scan. There is a professional mode where you can fine tune the scans. Naturally it scans photos at incredible resolution in the profession mode. You can access the professonal mode to select increased resolution for scanning negatives and slide, as well as photos. The included software is easy to follow and after a bit of experimenting, you're on your way. You can remove dust and enhance the image and all automatically. For what it does, it's reasonable price. It wasn't all that many years ago when something like this was the thing of dreams. Yet another excellent product from Epson.

I have a huge inventory of 35mm film accumulated over 40 years of shooting. I bought a high-end negatve scanner in order to digitize some of this inventory (like most photographers, only about 1 in 15 is worth saving). The process got very bogged down because my negatives are separated from the prints and it's very difficult to judge which of the negatives I want to scan. And scanning them all is too time-consuming and consumes huge amounts of disk space because this scanner operates at 5400dpi. I was therefore searching for a quick and easy way to do preliminary scans and make contact prints from which I could select the ones I wanted to run through the high-res scanner. This scanner attracted me as a possible solution because of the capability of auto-loading and scanning film strips. It hasn't really been a good solution as the film feeder is flimsy and quite fussy (it won't take a film strip with a tag on it, for example, and the original Kodak processing tag is on all of these rolls) and it's very slow.
For a general scanner this is quite a good machine and it's close to plug-and-play; also seems to be a very good value so I would recommend it highly for someone who needs to do occassional film strip scanning or just general scanning.

Other then that, it seems to be a great scanner. The scanner is something that will work for my needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great inexpensive scanner!, February 17, 2007

I purchased this scanner because of the features to scan slides and 35mm negatives. I have scanned about 200 slides and it amazes me how good the pictures look. Same with the negatives. If your not in a hurry to get a project like this done, then this could be just what you are looking for. I am very pleased (so far) with my purchase of this scanner.

Decent product. Cool auto feed function to scan 35mm negatives. Great feature is direct scan to PDF format and email function. Understanding all the options takes some time. 'Best' selection of options for scanning for YOU requires a little experimentation. For those not so inclined, there are four basic (simple) selections to choose from.

4.0 out of 5 stars Epson Perfection V350 Photo Scanner (B11B185011), February 27, 2008

I have been using this scanner to digitize archived family photgraphs ranging from recent to many decades old. Installation was easy on Windows Vista and the learning curve was fairly short. It has a few minor quirks in the way it previews and frames the photos, but I have discovered ways around these.

I like the control it gives you in the professional mode for adjusting colorimetry and exposure. Scanning time is a little slow, but manageable. I recommend it as a high quality home scanner. Professionals might want to look further.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice features for the price, August 1, 2007

This review is from: Epson Perfection V350 Photo Scanner (B11B185011) (Office Product)
I have always been a fan of Epson printers and I have always heard very good things about their scanners, so when I saw this scanner I had to have it. It has some pretty impressive features for an inexpensive scanner (slide and negative scanning with automatic negative feeder, high resolution, great color depth, and my favorite: scan to pdf). I have to say that it does produce great scans of prints, but at higher resolution the scan becomes somewhat grainy. I have been getting great results scanning larger prints (5x7 or 8x10) at lower resolution (600 to 1200 dpi), but I sometimes wish I could get equally good results at the highest resolution so that I can crop away and still have high resolution results. I am also disappointed in the quality of negative scans - they come out far too grainy (you need to scan negatives at higher resolutions in order to capture all the detail). But I don't plan on scanning too many negatives so this isn't a real big deal to me. My conclusion is: this is a good, inexpensive scanner with some nice features, but don't let the impressive resolution fool you - you can't take full advantage of it anyway.

Excellent scanner....does everything most people except for the high volume professional might need. You can scan your negatives, color slides, photo of all shapes and sizes. Couplke with a good photo editing program and you have the makings of a mini photo editing lab.
I highly nrecommend this product nthat has a large qty of prints or slides that needs to be archived. I scanned over 1000 photo's and slides without a single hitch. In addition to photo's it works great on documents and also avoids the opportunity to edit once scanned.

AAAAAAAAAA+++++

So far I have scanned both photos and 35mm slides. Both exceded expectations. Enlargements from slides had excellent resolution suitable for printing.
