This is a dye ink printer, not a pigment ink system.,

This review is from: Epson PictureMate Pal (PM 200) 4x6 Photo Printer (Office Product)
Epson's newest series of portable printers seem like a downgrade compared with their previous printer, the picturemate deluxe. The prints speeds are improved a bit in some of these new printers, but all these new printers use a dye based ink system instead of pigment based ink. Pigment based ink is used in Epson's professional line of printers because the ink has been tested to last 200 years in a photo book or 100 years in a glass frame. Notice that Epson does not comment on how long prints will last from these dye ink printers. Though, for the average consumer, they may find the other features of this printer appealing. It has a faster print speed compared with the picturemate deluxe. I own the picturemate deluxe and do not find it's print speed too slow. I'm sure the print quality of the picturemate pal will long just as nice, but it will not be suitable for archival prints if this is important to you.

This is a great little printer. The size is appealing, and it's easy transportable (with a convenient carry-handle on top). Unfortunately it does not have a battery, so it must still be plugged in.I really like the fact that the ink and paper are purchased together, and the quantities of both seem to line up fairly well, so I'm not running out of one or the other at different times. As far as the ink goes, I'm not sure what the other reviewer is talking about, because, according to Epson, even the different kind of ink this printer uses is still archival quality. I think the picture quality is good for the price of this machine.

This is a great printer. The photo quality is fantastic and it's super easy to use. The borders are also very fun. I made my own Christmas cards this year! There are more print layout options when you use it as a standalone printer (not through the PC) like printing wallet size.

This Photo Printer replaces an old Kodak printer dock that died after many years and thousands of photos. I wanted a printer that would do 4X6 photos. I'm very pleased with the Epson PictureMatePal. It works easily. I like it better than my old printer, especially that it closes up when not in use to protect it from dust and dog hairs.

I am extremely disappointed with my printer. I had a Sony FP30 Picture Station and decided to replace it when the feeder become worn down. I bought the PictureMate Pal (PM 200) unit based on the positive reviews I have seen for it, the price, and the high-speed at which the unit can print. It usually starts out okay, but inevitably the quality degrades as it prints. I usually have to stop it once or twice and clean the heads or align the nozzles - wasting precious ink and paper in the process. I continue to lose photos because the quality gradually degrades, and by the time it is noticeable, I often find myself going back to reprint 15 or 20 prints. I have a MAC, and the Photo Impression utility is not user friendly at all. When the printer is interrupted, instead of resuming it starts over resulting in wasted prints. I would recommend staying away from this unit -I'm kicking myself for purchasing it.

Epson PM 240 Picture Mate,
This review is from: Epson PictureMate Pal (PM 200) 4x6 Photo Printer (Office Product)
I bought two, one for a gift. Very good quality photos. Fast printing. The LCD screen is too small and you can't zoom in to see if you need to edit more before prining (w/out a computer). With a computer, no problem; but the software package for photo editting leaves something to be desired. Sometimes the red-eye reduction needs to be undone. The photo managing is not always easy and intuitive.Overall, I love this printer and recommend it for the price, quality, and cheap recurring costs of printing.

Great photo printer for the price,

This is a great printer. I compared the print quality with a more expensive HP printer and basically there was not much a difference. So I chose this printer and it has been great. I would definitely purchase this again.

Nice quality photos...when it works,
This review is from: Epson PictureMate Pal (PM 200) 4x6 Photo Printer (Office Product)
I've had this printer for a couple years. It just printed it's last photo. The quality of the photos was great when I could get it to work. Almost every time I used it, I had to do multiple self-cleanings, which need to be initiated over and over for about 20 minutes. At $35 a print pack and only printing ~30 photos each, it is an expensive print at about $1 a print. I won't buy a printer that doesn't sell ink separately from the paper again. Even wasting as much paper as I did on the self cleaning, I still have a few hundred sheets left over because the ink always ran out long before the paper did. If you're willing to spend $1/print and replace in two years, you might be happy with this. I'm not.

GREAT PRINTER IF YOU GET THE LAST MODELS!!!!NOT THE ITEM I RECEIVED I have had at least five of these GREAT Epson printers. The model I received was perhaps the first one ever made...no features, no red-eye out, no visual on the screen....a complete waste of money. Mispresented, However, the wonderful people at AMAZON credited my account to my complete surprise and satisfaction. Thank you!!! Steve
