3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.
As other reviewers have noted, this printer is noisy and consumes the expensive ink cartridges quickly. Most of my printing needs are for plain black-and-white text, and I think the quality of its output is just adequate. I liked the price and the ease of installation, but I kind of wish I had gone ahead and repaired my old HP 820Cse.

I recently bought this printer and enjoy the quality output it produces. Setup was a snap (I use Windows XP) and everything installed beautifully. I snapped the accompanying print cartridges in and I was off to the races. I quickly printed out a webpage and then some color photographs on inkjet index cards which came out decent. Then I popped in a 4x6 glossy, used the software that came with it and with minimal maneuvering, came out with a beautifully printed photo. I am impressed that this printer can practically do it all: it supports many paper sizes, envelopes, stickers and iron transfers.

For this price, this printer is a dream. I do admit though it is quite noisy and it takes a minute or so to print a 4 x 6 glossy photograph but these are not issues for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good printer but note the cons, September 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Epson Stylus C62 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I bought this printer in February 2003 ... after discount and bonus. I kept track of the number of copies I achieved from the second black & white cartridge (the first uses more ink while the new printer is setting up). From this second cartridge I got a total of 400 black copies including 75 in "economy" mode... So, it cost me 6.25 cents per page. However, one has to add the price of part of of the color cartridge since even while printing with black some of the color cartridge is used by the printer e.g when it cleans the print head. Although I made only 21 color prints since I got the printer six months ago, the color cartridge is getting low... So all in all, I figure that the black printing cost me about 8 cents per page. Print quality is very good, and for color and photos it is excellent.
The printer is fast when actually printing (there is periodic cycling time for print head cleaning). It is noisier than other printers, but although I am very sensitive to noise I don't find it as annoying as other reviewers have observed. But I wouldn't want to be in a room with more than one C62.
When placing envelopes care must be taken that the slide is tight against the left side of the envelope or the address might come out slightly crooked. For placing sheets, I find the C62 slightly more inconvenient than it was in my old Epson 740. Since I use several different letterheads and qualities of paper, I am constantly putting 8.5 x 11 sheets on and off the machine. My 740 was a snap, but on the C62 I sometimes have to fiddle a bit more to get the paper to lay properly. That is no problem for someone who uses the same paper most of the time.
Overall, I am satisfied with this printer even though ink usage appears higher than I would like. I don't know how other printers stack up against the price figures of my estimate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Great, September 30, 2003

I am a desktop publisher I print a lot. My own digital photography is the primary source to my designs. I use Epson printers for its good print quality of digital images. I usually have three printers running at the same time when it comes to the final steps in my work, when the item I designed (i.e. invitations, business forms etc...) needs to be printed, which often means output in large numbers. Presently I use besides the C 62 also three other Epson printer models for my printing needs. In the past 4 years I have gone through five earlier Epson Stylus printer models (used up because my printing volume is 5 to 10 times that of average printing). From my presently used printers I am most impressed by the C 62 in both areas: print quality remains excellent to the last drop of ink, and its economical output of prints (both ink cartridges , black and color go very far without decreasing the print quality). Most printers do well when printing in the high range of pixels/inch, the C 62 does excellent in the lower pixel/inch range as well, outdoing all my other printers I had and have so far. I use settings ranging from automatic plus speed over normal to fine when not needing the crisp, sharp look of a photographic image and I therefore try to decrease unnecessary use of ink, plus gaining some output speed. I am highly impressed with the performance of the C 62. It leaves all printers I used and use in the dust with one exception of a former Epson model which I will mourn forever, yet the C 62 comes close. I will order at least two more Epson Stylus C 62 printers over the next couple of months, possibly even three more. My experience is based on high print volume, which definitely goes far beyond the average of using inkjet printers.

5.0 out of 5 stars FAST!! FAST!! TERRIFIC PRINTER!! A MUST BUY!!!, November 3, 2003
By
This review is from: Epson Stylus C62 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
This is a MUST BUY printer. I have and love the C-62. In fact I bought another Epson Stylus C-62 Printer for my daughter in college. Waiting on delivery for another one for my other daughter in college!! This is a FAST, FAST Epson Printer!! The ink cartridges I use last an extremely long time! It readily accepts the Generic Ink Cartridges that I use and I buy them for $6.95 for Black and $7.95 for Color at www.PrintPal.com with FREE SHIPPING, no minimum. And these ink cartridges are every bit as great as the real Epson Cartridges. I also use the CHEAPEST copy paper I can get and -0- promblems.
BUT FOR THE EPSON STYLUS C-62 INKJET PRINTER.........IT IS ABSOLUTELY 100% MAGNIFICO!! IT IS A RELIABLE, FAST FAST PRINTER, WITH TERRIFIC CLARITY IN COLOR AND B&W!!! THIS IS A TERRIFIC PRICE AND YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY IF YOU BUY IT!!! AND ONE OF THE BEST PARTS IS........IT COMES WITH THE PARALLEL CORD!!! AND ITS A GREAT BUY!!!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars My Epson Experience, May 13, 2004
By
This review is from: Epson Stylus C62 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
My Epson Experience

Let me begin by saying that I have over ten years of experience with all things computer related. During that period I have worked in almost every aspect of computer support. I have personally cleaned out countless numbers of inkjet printers with q-tips distilled water and alcohol. I kept my own Epson 740 going for 5 years without too much difficulty. I only got rid of it because I had a client that was desperate for a printer that would accept a Mac serial port. Boy due I miss that Epson 740.

I bought a C82 a little less than a year ago, after reading good reviews. I assumed it would be built at least as well as the Epson 740 I was using before.

Even after ten months my C82 still appears in almost brand new shape inside and out. Heck, I've only used it about thirty times or so. I keep it inside of cabinet shielded from dust. Plus as a matter of standard practice, I turn off all inkjet printers as soon as I finish using them, and I always change ink cartridges as quickly as possible to prevent ink from drying out inside printers.

So was I ever surprised when my printer stopped working. It had worked fine with the first set of cartridges I had installed. However, as soon as I changed cartridges the printer stopped working. I tried cleaning it at least fifty times, but it did nothing to improve the situation. So I did the natural thing and googled my problem. I was shocked by the sheer number of search results.

After reading through the reviews at Amazon and the hundreds of messages at fixyourownprinter.com I've come to realize that Epson has built and continue to build a printer that is so poorly designed one must question their integrity as a company. To think that so many people would experience the same problem and that their only solution is to continue to send people refurbished printers until their warranty expires.

Oh, and the part that will really get you, is that they require you to purchase and install a new set of four Epson branded ink cartridges to insure that your currently installed cartridges are not what is defective. So before you can even have your printer replaced you must invest at least sixty dollars on ink. Of course they offer to send you new ink with the replacement printer. Still to ask me to sink my time, energy, and sixty dollars into having my printer replaced with another one, which will simply get me right back to where I began. I mean really, the nerve. Is this what our present day world has come to? Have we set ourselves up so that these large corporations can totally take advantage of us in this way? Is there no recourse? Are there no standards of business ethics that they can be held accountable for?

The experience has left me feeling unusually sad. Epson has made me realize just how much I am at the mercy of these large corporations. I mean, if you want to print, who else can you buy a printer from?
I know that even if Epson would own up to this, they would argue that they had to make the printers so cheaply to remain competitive. Without doing so they would go out of business tomorrow. We've heard all that before. Haven't we?

Still though, this printer is made by someone in a Chinese factory. I know I'm going out on a limb here, but I would guess that that person is not well paid. Perhaps they are even exploited to some extent or at the very least we could guess that they are taken advantage of to some extent. Then as they role off the Chinese production line, Epson sends these defective printers all over the globe, wrapped up in fancy magazine advertisements. People like me buy the printer, use the ink, put in new ink, discover it no longer works, call Epson, ship the printer back to Epson, get the refurbished printer in the mail, and <repeat>. Once the warranty is up we move our broken printer into the garage for a year or so, and then throw it away. It all seems so pointless.

Don't think me a luddite either. I love computers, printers, and gadgets as much as the next person. It's just that it disgusts me that I am forced to deal with a corporation that is not held to any kind of moral or ethical principles. As long as they are making money and growing we think of them as a good thing, without worrying about who they are taking advantage of. What are we doing here? How can we let Epson get away with this? Really!

Well it's not difficult for me to say I will be boycotting all Epson products in the future. I mean I'm sort of doubtful of their quality anyways. Oh and I haven't even mentioned the very unhelpful tech support and customer service representatives that I called long distance at my own expense. What a waste! Really what a waste!

Sincerely,

- Mark Whitney -
Hollywood, CA

P.S. I know the solution is to buy myself a do-it-yourself printer cleaning kit. If you google it you'll see that many companies sell them specifically for the Epson C80/C82. However, if you try to buy one you'll soon discover that they are all sold out, as I mentioned before I'm not the only one with this problem.

1.0 out of 5 stars Epsom is a disreputable company, May 24, 2005

This review is from: Epson Stylus C62 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
Read Mark Whitney's review again (Hollywood,Ca.) he says it well. I'd like to send a copy of that to the CEO of EPSOM because his letter says it all. Epsom should be ashamed, but what do they care, their greed for $$ is more important than customer service. I had a C 62 Epsom Printer for 4 months. When it broke I called customer service. I have never heard such a display of incompetence and rudeness. My advice is don't deal with this company or their products. They are disreputable. D. LakeMaine

2.0 out of 5 stars disapointing, August 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Epson Stylus C62 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
This printer looks pretty good and is cheap, it prints pictures at a very nice quality, and an ok speed. This is all the good stuff I really have to say but the truth is, I think that this printer is a horrible. This printer is basically a cheaply made printer, that only accepts the expensive ink made by espon. There are cheaper inks that it will accept but if you try this is what will happen. The printer will print a paper that you wanted to print. Then the next time you want to print something it says it's out of ink. Althouh you just put in a new ink cartrige it says your out. It will say you have inserted this ink cartrige incorectly so you try it another way, and then a piece of plastic comes shooting out of the printer. This printer worked fine for the first 2 or 3 months and then it stopped working ever since. You may think that this isn't that bad and that if you buy the espon ink it will work fine. Well I guess that can be true but what you do need to know is that every time you print something a window apears on your computer that you can't exit out of untill you finish printing. If the printer doesn't print it will stay on even if you restart you computer. If your the kind of person who leaves your printer on all the time you should know that when you turn on your computer it will make a huge loud noice that can be heard through another wall. This will also happen if you turn it off and on again.

What I basically have to say is that if you read about this printer and try it out you will think it's pretty good, but overtime you will end up disapointed, after you can't print anymore. Before you should buy this printer you should check out other brands for a more satisfying product. Overall I have to say that this printer is ok, but could be allot better.
