4.0 out of 5 stars better then I thought
I brought this printer to replaced my old Epson C80 whose usefulness have ended. The Epson C66 proves to be a pretty good bargain for the price. I just finished giving it a good work out, printing out nearly 150 pages of text with images and over 90 4x6 color prints. Overall, the image quality proves to be quite good and the machine haven't fall apart on me...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK
I bought the computer to print basic texts, and I chose it because of its low price. The printer prints text nicely and has no problem with colored images that go along with the texts. I am no printer expert, but the black ink went away very fast. I used up the black ink after perhaps 70 pages. Remember, the black ink cartridge is perhaps one third the size as the black...

The installation proves to be super easy. Unlike my old C80, the printing options seem to be bit limited but its easily within the acceptable range for any home user. Anyone, even those of very limited computer skills can get this printer going in minutes. Like most Epsons, the printer is bit bulky unlike these slim and tirm HP printers. It should be noted that this printer only got an USB connection. There is no other connection outside of that. (And you got to owned your own USB cable!!!)

The ink usuage was my major concern however, maybe it because its new, so far, C66 haven't been a hog. However, like most Epson inks, it would be expensive to replace. It almost ironic but the price you pay to replaced all four ink cartridges, you can almost buy yourself a new C66 printer!! (Secret of Epson and HP is that their printers are cheap, their inks are not!) I enjoyed the "Film Factory" software it came with it. Its easy to use and simple to function for my needs. The printing speed is very acceptable and it very quiet printer.

For simple home computer use, I think this printer meet all the requirements. However, I don't think it can handle the real heavy duty work every single day.

Remember, the black ink cartridge is perhaps one third the size as the black ink in any other printers I have used. I do not understand why Epson decided to make the black ink the same size as each individual colored ink cartridge. And plus, the black ink is like $20 dollars!!!!!

I also don't like how the paper has to be left on the back vertically, most HP models let you put the paper flat at the bottom of the printer.

My C60 just bit the dust and I wanted another so I could use up the extra ink cart's that I've been storing. I suppose the C60 has been discontinued so I went for the nearest thing - the C66. Compared to the C60 this printer just creeps and I thought it would probably be faster. I have had less trouble with nozzles clogging, but it is still only several weeks old and this could change with the next priting. My biggest complaint is that it will not accept a standard 4 1/8x 9 1/2 envelope feeding landscape. It goes exactly to 8.5 wide so the envelopes must be fed portrait which now screws up my envelope printing program as it will not print portrait. I thought it would be a new and improved C60, but it is actually a step down. It will also run a sheet of blank paper before it starts printing my CD labels for some reason and this is a major waste of time. I wish the C60 were still available honestly.

By far I hate the chore of installing a new piece of equipment to my computer. When my old Epson printer of 7 years broke (because of a stupid move on my part)I knew to fix it would not be cost effective due to the low price of newer models.

I selected the Epson C66 and found it was super easy to install. It took all the stress out of setting up. The print quality is EXCELLENT!!!! Also, it is a very quite printer compared ot my old Epson. You just can't beat the price. As an added tip on where to find good quality ink cartridges at half the cost try [...]

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT Compatible with Macintosh!, March 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Epson Stylus C66 Printer (C11C573071) (Office Product)
Well, I just wasted $70. To my knowledge, this is the first USB printer from any manufacturer that is not Mac-compatible. Even worse, it seems that Epson made a conscious decision to make this printer incompatible with the Macintosh just to force us to spend more money.

Quoted from the Epson.com website:

Q: Why isn't the Epson Stylus C66 compatible with Macintosh computers?

A: Epson America works closely with Apple to deliver digital imaging products that meet their customer's needs. Based on feedback from Apple and its customers, Epson determined that Mac users were not interested in lower-end printers such as the $69 Epson Stylus C66.

Many other Epson printers are Mac compatible, however, for a general-purpose inexpensive Mac-compatible printer Epson recommends the Epson Stylus C86 which retails for $99.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow with good quality., October 10, 2005
This review is from: Epson Stylus C66 Printer (C11C573071) (Office Product)
It tells you that it prints at 17 pages per minute but that isn't true. It takes a very long time to print out anything from text to images. It you arn't looking for speed then I would suggest this printer. The quality is what you get for the buck. So if you need nothing fancy this is the best printer for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bargin 4 your home office needs, January 25, 2005
This review is from: Epson Stylus C66 Printer (C11C573071) (Office Product)
This is my 3rd ink jet printer. All of my printers have been used for my home office. The deciding factor for this purchase was the individual ink tanks. I regularly print the same color graphic for a sales flyer and only change the text month to month. With a "tri" color cartridge I was running out of "M" before the other inks had expired, which made the cartridge useless at that point. So this printer was a really economical option for my printing needs. $ for $ a smart buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's NOT a good deal., July 10, 2006
This review is from: Epson Stylus C66 Printer (C11C573071) (Office Product)
Purchased this printer about a year ago to replace an old HP deskjet. Here'a my experience.

Installation was easy. Even worked well with Linux. First 30 or so pages came out great (albeit extremely slow). I was happy with the printer for about 1 week.

Then the problems started. The ink cartridges are quite small, and run out quickly. And as everyone knows, ink can be quite costly. Epson is no exception.

Also, the print heads seem to get dirty very easily. I constantly end up with smudges and drops and drips on the finished product.

After about a month of use the paper stopped feeding properly, and now everything I print comes out crooked.

But this is the straw that broke the camel's back. About a month ago I needed to print an important document in a hurry. The printer returns the message that the ink is out. Well, I haven't used the color ink for at least a month or longer, so I assumed it was the black ink that was empty. I put in a new cartridge. Still nothing. It turns out that it was the yellow ink that was empty, BUT THE PRINTER WILL NOT WORK - NOT EVEN IN GRAYSCALE - IF ANY OF THE FOUR INK CARTRIDGES ARE EMPTY. So now I have to buy a yellow ink cartridge so I can print in balck and white?

The printer initially had appeal because it was inexpensive and printed nice pictures (at least for the first few weeks). But it's been more of a problem than it's worth. If you are considering this printer, take my advice and look elsewhere. Spend the extra $40 and get something good. You'll wish you had in the long run.

As for me, I'll throw this piece of junk out and buy a new printer before I fork out for any more ink.

2.0 out of 5 stars Basic printer, poorly executed, September 9, 2005
By
This review is from: Epson Stylus C66 Printer (C11C573071) (Office Product)
The Epson C66 mostly does what you'd expect from a $60 inkjet printer, but doesn't do anything exceptionally well. So I would give it 3 stars. Except for two things. One, the draft print mode is VERY faint and basically illegible. Two, it's VERY slow to start printing the first page. I'll keep using mine (at least until the ink cartridges run out), but I wouldn't recommend buying one.

4.0 out of 5 stars great price, June 26, 2005
This review is from: Epson Stylus C66 Printer (C11C573071) (Office Product)
i had another epson printer that screwed up, but i was gonna get it fixed until i seen this one. i wasn't gonna buy a new printer, but have you seen the prices for the printer cartridges? this printer cost just a smidge above what they cost bought together. my other printer uses the same cartridges as this so i just transfered them over. as for the price, it was almost like getting the printer for free.

other then the fact that there is some small banding when printing large dark photos, this printer is pretty much a great deal. if you just want to print out pages and pages of words instead of photographs, this is perfect for you.
