2.0 out of 5 stars Epson CX9475fax, March 7, 2008
This review is from: Epson Stylus CX9475 All In One Printer/Fax (Office Product)
I was looking for an All In One and bought this because of the connectivity options and Epson reputation. This is actually the CX9400fax sold with an external third party printer server that velcros to the back of the machine. The server has an antennae for wireless 'g' and an ethernet connection as well. The server connects to the machine with a usb cable. Out of the box two of the four cartridges were defective. The Epson software installed without a problem and worked flawlessly when connected directly to the computer through the usb port. The ethernet connection also worked fine through my router. However; with Epson support I was never able to get the wireless connection to work. After 2 1/2 hours with Epson they were still willing to assist but by then I was ready to throw in the towel. They were somewhat helpful but it became apparent there are some bugs to work out. And then there are the typical tech issues you hear so much about. Told that the tech would get back with me in 2-3 minutes but it's 30. Told they would call me back and didn't. Personally I think this machine was rushed to market and wish Epson had taken more time to develop the product including improving the printer server installation software and making the wifi and ethernet connections 'built in'. I ended up sending mine back to Epson and purchasing an HP. As a footnote they refused to reimburse me for the replacement cartridges I had to purchase to overcome the two defective ones that accompanied the machine. If there comes a time in my life where I have forgotten I wrote this review that is when I will purchase another Epson.

1.0 out of 5 stars CX9475Fax is one to avoid, May 18, 2008
This review is from: Epson Stylus CX9475 All In One Printer/Fax (Office Product)
My experience is very similar to that of psyrog. At least my ink cartridges worked. Was very disappointed to see the 3rd party external print server, which is the defective part as when the computer releases the connection, the server drops the signal.

When this happens, I have to reboot the server, reinstall the drivers, run though the installation process and then hope that the Server will not drop before I print. The Server has dropped within seconds, but occassionaly it will go a couple of days.

I have contacted Technical Support by phone and by email. When on the phone, they walked me through the reinstallation process which I was already able to with the CD, so this was not much help. And since it is not an 800 number, the calls are on your dime, not theirs. These calls can take awhile as the Tech didn't seem at all familiar with the product, and didn't want to hear that I had already done everything he was suggesting, several times. I finally just shut my mouth and let him walk me through a familiar process.

When I first emailed Epson, the person responding to the email did not bother to read what I had written, responded to what he thought was the problem, and closed the ticket. When I responded back, he sat on the problem for several weeks, before sending me a reply that he had passed this on to Customer Relations. My expectations of the Epson Tech Support have been lowered each time I have contacted them. And each time, they have performed at a much lower level than in prevous contacts.

If you are considering this product, I would urge you to buy another brand. If you still are considering buying this, buy the Epson CX9400Fax, and then purchase your own Print Server. The brand of server to stay away from is Edimax. What you will end up with is the exact same configuration as the CX9475Fax, in fact the faceplate of my CX9475Fax says Epason Stylus CX9400Fax. It may cost you a few bucks more, but it may work a lot better. I haven't tried this, as I think that Epson should give me a full refund.

As an Epson Customer for over 15 years, and having purchased a number of Epson products in that time, I find they have destroyed my loyalty in a matter of days. HP here I come!

1.0 out of 5 stars I will not purchase one of these, July 24, 2008
This review is from: Epson Stylus CX9475 All In One Printer/Fax (Office Product)
I've been loving Epson products for many years, but this decision is based upon the previous reviews of this model and based upon the tech support people I talked with on the phone today. I have an Epson printer/scanner/copier CX5000 and on the box and in the tech notes it says works wirelessly also. Great! I thought. However it seems that this model Epson #CX9475Fax is the ONLY model they say will do BOTH printing and scanning wirelessly. ALL there other models, including the one I own, will ONLY print wirelessly. And an EXTERNAL cheap crap print server attached to the back?? Oh c'mon! The Epson tech I spoke with today said that the other models are not designed for wireless scanning. (However I CAN scan wirelessly using the Windows Scanners and Cameras Wizard but the quality is really poor(I have to clean it up with Photoshop) and sometimes it works sometimes not.) But this came from one of their Level 2 techs, which I had to repeatedly blast my way through the Level 1 tech to get connected to. It was very annoying when I'd ask another question or for clarification from the Level 1 tech he kept putting me on hold while he asked his "resources" for the information. In other words, he knew nothing at all and was reading through something to even find the answer to the most basic questions I had, and nevermind anything more complex which he had to run to the Level 2 tech. But, they're in India or someplace else a million miles away and probably were just hired over there for Epson and were just told what a computer printer is and handed a book to read. Right? All companies are doing this and it's going to be the downfall of these companies as more people quit buying their products. But, it's cheap labor for them. Now I'M going to go look at some HP models.
