Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The Epson Stylus Color 670 is an ideal printer for the family or small office wanting fast, quality printing at a low price. It's unpretentious and easy-to-use, with convenient features to create splashy school reports, family projects, or office presentations. With a resolution of 1,440 x 720 dpi and a full range of software tools, the 670 delivers photo-quality color in practically no time. Plus, it's compatible with both PC and Macintosh.

The Epson 670 is designed for fast setup and use. It weighs in at only 15 pounds and has an impressively simple design, with a drop output tray and a snap-on input tray that holds up to 50 pages. First, we dropped in the two ink cartridges and waited the brief two minutes for the 670 to warm up. During setup, we noticed that the printer was a little noisy, but we also noticed there were handy color graphic instructions for replacing ink cartridges inside the lid. With one-button operation, we were able to begin printing without going through a long tutorial. Installing software was intuitive, and Epson's setup guide was highly detailed for clarity and effortless use. (And be sure not to miss the strange and eerie Fix-it Flix printer movies included on the CD-ROM.) More experienced printer owners should only need to take only a cursory glance at the set-up guide.

For all of its simplicity, the Epson 670 still performed well in our tests. We were able to print a variety of color and black-and-white text and graphic pages whose quality was very good for a printer in this price range.

Epson's PerfectPicture Imaging System is a combination of features that includes tiny ink jets, smooth AccuPhoto Halftoning, and quick-drying inks to produce rich, stable color. Flexible printing on a variety of papers and envelopes permits greater creativity in developing invitations, resumes, banners, and labels--and photo enhancement allows you to nuance tone, detail, and sharpness. Individual indicator lights let you know when ink cartridges are low. The software included with the 670 includes ArcSoft PhotoImpression 2000, Epson Software Film Factory, Trellix Web, and Stamps.com (for Windows). In-the-box accessories include a USB cable, black and color ink cartridges, and the Epson Printer Basics Guide. For support, Epson offers a highly navigable Web site and a one-year exchange-or-repair warranty. --David Greenberger

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use & install, June 5, 2000

Hearse Queen "grimrides" (northern california, usa) - See all my reviews

I got this, not having installed a printer before, and I was terrified. Thankfully, it was easy for me to install, and it has been very easy to use!

The images print out clearly, and quite quickly. I have run this on both my old AMD K6, and my current computer, a Pentium III, and on both it has performed quite well.

My family has always purchased epson products, and I see why, I'm very satisfied with my purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead on printing + simplicity + compatibility, June 8, 2000
This review is from: Epson Stylus Color 670 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I've had my Epson for nearly a year now and it performs just great. I have PC and Mac and really needed connectivity. The serial and parallel made the decision easy for me. Add USB as the new standard to most computers - life is good. The speed is not lightening fast, but this doesn't bother me because I'm not a print shop. The print quality is outstanding; especially if you use glossy paper. The color matching from a range of applications like Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Freehand, and QuarkXpress, etc. is also very good.

The only hick-up was when the print head flew into the far left side and thought it was printing on paper. Using the simple utility software to correct this got me right back on track. The only other trouble is the connectivity from my PowerBook G3. Sometimes you need to turn the printer on first, then boot the portable. The software bundles itself in your print/print setup of whatever software you're using. It's straight forward and allows quite a bit of control is you really want to tweak stuff out.

Regardless of the small hiccups, both on the PC MS98/NT and Mac platforms - I haven't had and major problems. If you are looking for value and decent print quality, look no further.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Printer, But Very Noisy, July 16, 2000
This review is from: Epson Stylus Color 670 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I bought this printer recently and have used it for a couple monthsnow. As far as quality goes, this is as good as any Inkjet printer I've seen. We have an HP Inkjet printer also and this Epson printer cranks out just as good of results as the HP--the printers are very comparable. This Epson printer was about $10 cheaper than the HP 612, its counterpart...Another important thing about this printer: the ink refills aren't too bad (price-wise) compared to say, the Lexmark Z11, this printer's counterpart in the Lexmark brand. The refills aren't any more expensive than the average Inkjet printer. My only complaint with this printer is that it makes terrible racket when printing. It is much, much, noisier than the HP printer and as noisy of a printer as I've heard. May not be an issue with most people, merely an annoyance. The main thing is quality and this printer passes with flying colors. Oh, one more key thing about this printer: it is USB compatible. You will be very hard-pressed to find another USB compatible printer at this price. If you can get past the noise of this printer, I highly recommend it. Epson is a solid printer manufacturer.
