5.0 out of 5 stars Epson 9900 compatible, easy to change
I was nervous when the right-side maintenance tank on my Epson 9900's warning light came on - 90% full. I had no idea what a maintenance tank was or how difficult it was to change it, but the Epson 9900 guide does warn that if one of the maintenance tanks become completely full, the machine will cease to print. I ordered the part from Amazon, double-checking the tank...

2.0 out of 5 stars You can refurbish an ink tank
The ink tank for the 4800/7800/9800 is a simple plastic box filled with paper absorbent. Thirty five bucks is way too much to pay for such a simple device. You can "refurbish" the tank with a roll of toilet paper. Remove the lid from the tank, remove the cardboard tube in the center of the roll and cut the toilet tissue in half with a bread knife. The two halves will just about fill the box to recreate the absorbent. Here's the kicker. The printer reads a chip on the tank and remembers the last two tanks, and maybe more. It will not let you reinsert and reuse a recently used tank even if it has been "refurbished". If you have a buddy with the same printer you can switch refurbished tanks to fool the printer.

I ordered the part from Amazon, double-checking the tank model #, which should be compatible with my machine. It was delivered quickly. I was amazed how easy it was to change, it just slides right in and out of the machine. Tip to extend the life of your maintenance tank if you have an Epson 9900 or similar model that has a left and right tank, the right tank will fill a LOT faster then the left one, so when you notice the right tank at around 50%, swap the left and right tanks. Also, this tank works on both the right and left sides, they are cross-compatible, so you not need to keep a left-tank and right-tank around, just one backup maintenance tank will be fine, you can use it in either side.

There is not much to this in tank, but you since Epson is the only one who makes it, they can charge a massive profit for it. Amazon is probably the cheapest place to get it though. You can take out the filled absorbent fibers and use lots of tissue or paper towels until you get a new one. But you can't reset the maintenance tank on the printer from what I know.

Quickly replaced the ink storage tank in our Stylus Pro 4800, and regained the ability to print! Annoying that you have this part, and amazing to feel the difference in weight between a new and a used part. Just think of all the wasted ink! Alas, it's needed, and Amazon has a good price.

Note that you should be careful when removing the old one, as it can be a little messy! Don't touch the (possibly still wet) ink!

This is the real thing, not much to it and it works perfectly. Plastic carrier, paper wadding, electronic bit so the printer knows how much it has dumped into it. Trivial to insert in a 7800. Can't get easier or simpler than this!

3.0 out of 5 stars this is a part., May 6, 2007
This review is from: Epson Stylus Pro 4800 7800 & 9800 Ink Maintenance Tank model #C12C890191 (Office Product)
there is nothing wrong with this epson part. It is a replacement tank from a commercial grade wide format printer that soaks up discarded ink and needs to be replaced once full. Epson make the finest inkjet printers and are an industry standard in the world of print, prepress and design.

I think I am being asked to review the product as I purchased it needing it overnight and paid about $18 to ship the $30 item and was not happy when it never arrived. Amazon did credit me for the shipping charges and agreed to resend the product for no additional charge since they were not able to provide any more tracking information than what I already knew. The original shipment arrived the following day and the resent item was never shipped/received which irritates when the right hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing. Next time, I will may think of other solutions for time sensitive stuff.

I had no problem with the quality of the ink, but with my Epson CX 4800 it only seem to print 7 items, cards, papers, photos or a mixture of any of the 3 and then the ink ran out.
