Great features, full Mac OS X compatibility,
By
This review is from: Epson Stylus Photo 900 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
The Epson Stylus Photo 900 is a great printer for a reasonable price. It's print quality is excellent and it prints on many types of media including borderless prints (8x10, 5x7, 4x6), CD/DVD direct printing (on CDs and DVDs with a printable surface), roll feed (4 or 8 inch-wide) and banners.I've owned three previous Epson printers and this is clearly the best yet. It is reasonably fast, and very high quality. And for Mac users, all of its features work under both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9! This includes the CD/DVD printing and borderless and roll printing features. It does not have separate ink catridges for each color like its big brother the Stylus Photo 960, but it is about 60% of the price. All in all I am very satisfied. I wish Epson had come up with a better name, however. They previously offered a Stylus 900 (non Photo) about two years ago and people are bound to confuse the two in discussion.

I bought this printer for printing on CD/DVDs and am very pleased with the results. The colors come out extremely well and sharp (when using epson ink) on full-faced printing. The included Windows software works very well. I have had no problems with it.You will have to do some setup work like adjusting the ink amount and colors depending on the type of inkjet media you buy. I had to go through at least 10 CDs to get the alignment and color close to perfect. Once I did that, I had no problems. Order some sample packs of inkjet media before you buy in bulk. I found that Ritek media didn't work well with this printer (left a vertical line down the left side of the disc). I found BeAll, Samsung, Optodisc, Verbatim, and Dupez inkjet media worked well with this printer. I would highly recommend buying this printer if you plan to print on CD/DVDs. It is well worth the money.

EPSON COMES THROUGH LIKE A CHAMP,
By
This review is from: Epson Stylus Photo 900 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I do digital photography, web and graphic designs and make CDs. There is no need to spend thousands of dollars on a CD printer when you can get this printer for less...This printed a 5x7 at a decent speed and with 100% photo lab quality on the supplied Epson Premium glossy paper. I have owned Canon and Lexmark printers and bought an Epson 875DC and loved the 875 best of all. Then I bought this printer and just flipped over the quality of this printer at a reasonable price. I have never bought a high end printer because i have never had a need to because of the quality that EPSON offers in all its models. If i ever break down and buy a high end printer it will definitely be an EPSON. I will be amazed if the output could get any better.

I already had a printer and got this mainly because I was tired of using a magic marker to scrawl titles on my CD compilations. I am very impressed with how easy it is to print the CDs and what a good job the printer does. The CD printing software is easy to use. It comes with some insipid designs, but you can use your own images as background (and lighten them if you want) on the CD. You can also place your own images on the CD, not as background. The lettering (provide it's a single line) has an "auto-arch" option that keeps it concentric with the CD as you move it away from the center. The only drawback I've found is that it doesn't have a neat way of entering the track titles. Excellent capability at a good price.

Nice prints, WATERPROOF! ink, easy to use,
By A Customer
This review is from: Epson Stylus Photo 900 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I tried a canon 850 and got a drop of water on a print. The water destroyed the print. That moved me to the Epson. The inks will still last more than 20 years and they are waterproof. I held the first print under the faucet, with the water running, and it held up superbly. A few minutes later, after drying, it looked perfect. The print quality is very good. We shoot family/nature photos with an Olympus 740 3 mg camera and the quality of 8x10 prints is very good. When people say 'wow' when you tell them you printed the photo at home that tells the story. The software is easy to use. I particularly like the print management software since I use Adobe photo albumn and elements to handle all the photos.

This printer was purchased to replace an older Epson printer. When shopping around, I was also impressed with a Canon photo printer for a much higher price. The decision was made to go with the Epson because of the ability to print directly on CDs. I made the right choice. After installing the printer, I was instantly able to print photo quality prints that are indistinguishable from the prints from the local photo shop. In addition, the printing on CDs is easy and produces great quality. I highly recommend this printer.

I bought this printer and used it until I had to change the print cartidge. the ink holders are very flimsy and the clip broke without any undue pressure. needless to say it was not worth fixing. The picture were average but for the money were okay. replaced it with a epson r3oo and so far this one is much better made and the prints are great. price was reasonable too.

Very Good Quality,

I have had this printer for about 6 months now and have been very happy with it. I used it while on a job search and printed out at least 100 resumes and cover letters, all with excellent quality.Photographs look fantastic on Epson's glossy paper (only slightly less fantastic on other brands). I honestly think the pictures I print look better than the same pictures from the photo shop. CDs too look excellent. I haven't been able to get the labels *perfectly* centered, but they are pretty close. Minus one star for speed. While the quality is great, it takes a very long time to print a photo or a CD.

The Epson 900 will print directly on the cd's you burn . Some of the printers that do this cost 1k more .To write on a cd with a pen distroys it - stick on's come off and disable your player .Felt tips work but do not look as good as a picture and text printed right on your CD .This is a find. Very Bad Printer,
By "thelovassys" (AL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epson Stylus Photo 900 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
Throughout the first year or so of owning this printer, we experienced occasional problems with vertical banding of black and color ink. We thought it was probably because of the fact that we didn't use the printer a whole lot. The problem could be (annoying) fixed through cleaning the print head 1-3 times, and it would print fine. This was acceptable because we never had to rely on the job finishing quickly, and we hardly ever had large or multiple jobs.Well, after the first year or so, we started wanting to use the printer more frequently and that's when we realized that something was wrong. It turned out that even with semi-frequent use, we always had to clean the head multiple times (it got to the point that we had to clean the head around 6-7 times before getting a good print). This even occured with brand new ink cartridges. Sometimes, we had to clean the head between consecutive print jobs, and sometimes we had to break up multiple page jobs to clean the head in between. I am sure that had we fully put this printer to use early on, we could have caught this problem and had the printer, or at least print head, replaced. When it does print, it does a pretty decent job (although there are better printers out now), but we couldn't take it anymore and bought a new printer. We have tried everything that Epson's support page recommends and nothing prevents this problem. |
