Since I purchased my Epson printer in January 2013, I have had to replace this black toner cartridge four times and I have not printed more than 300 B & W pages. I notice that the new cartridges do not weigh more than the empty ones and now feel that Epson is distributing almost empty cartridges. The last black cartridge showed that it was full until I printed out a couple of test pages. The ink capacity then indicated that I had used up one quarter of the cartridge. I am now investigating using compatible toner from other manufacturers which could not be worst that the crap that Epson is putting out. In addition, this problem exists with the other colors needed to operate my printer. Even if I don't use my printer in a few days, the ink seems to evaporate. I know printer companies sell their printers cheap and get the customers back with the price of the ink, but my printer was not cheap. I can only print out four or five photos before I get replace toner alerts, and the quality of color photos are muddy and awful. I picked my Epson printer because it had scanner/copy/fax capability, but realize that my simple HP printer and ink gives higher quality printing as compared to Epson. Stay clear of Epson printers.

This is the original product from Epson and, no surprise, it works well with my XP-800. It's also more expensive than third parties. I noticed that some reviewers were complaining for the ink not lasting for very long. This is true and there are two explanations. First, Epson hopes to make some money by selling the printers cheap and then charging a lot for the ink or giving you very little ink for the cartridge. Whether we like it or not, most printer makers are doing this. The alternative is 'third party' cartridges that are less expensive and that may or may not work well. The second explanation is that this is the PHOTO black (PBK) cartridge, not meant to be used when printing black and white pages. The printer WILL be using the PBK if the regular black cartridge is empty so make sure that the BK has ink.

Apparently there are some high capacity cartridges and their code is 273XL. I couldn't find them at Amazon.

This ink does not last and Epson has a wonderful setup where you have to have ALL of the Five cartridges with ink in it, or you will not be allowed to print a single page.

This is EPSON ink and although more expensive than after market ink this ink does give a superior print. I would purchase again.

Havent used the new printer long enough, but the ink seems to be working pretty well. Of course like any other ink, we always wish it were at a lower price.

I think it was defective. The printer wouldn't recognize the cartridge. I have ordered another one. Hopefully it will work.

Very good quality-the pictures turned out beautifully. The ink does not last very long, unfortunately. We did not have it very long before it ran out.

So I bought the multi pack and assumed when they added the black ink it would be the one not included in the multi pack. I was wrong and ended up with 2 photo blacks and no just black ink. Even more annoying was to have the 2 black photo inks and I still couldn't print and had to run to staples just before closing to get the correct ink!!! I really wish they would give totally different numbers to the 2 black inks. Other then that it worked fine.
