Don't buy the printers, and you won't need the ink.
Geri H. Malandra
If one of the ink cartridges is low (not even empty!), this machine shut down and won't even print anything until you replace it to a new cartridge.
Kagoshiman
This ink is the standard black, not the photo black that some printers use.

Installed perfectly - thanks to the other highly rated reviewer on this product, as Epson's instructions on the printer, the packaging and the printer software were woefully inadequate. Works fine. It's smallish like the original, so I don't expect it to last long.

One tip: If your printer quits because of low ink, disable the Status Monitor. It cheerfully will print until it's out of ink that way.

I have used HP printers for years and always loved them. I can print with the ink cartridges a long time and keep printing for a while when the cartridge is low on ink. My husband bought this Epson two months ago and we have been out of town for one month. So, in just one months time and with very little printing this printer is already showing low on ink on 4 of the 5 cartridges and then last night it would not print at all until I change the black printer cartridge.

With my HP I could keep printing until there was no more ink. The Epson will not even work without me changeing the cartridge and the last page that printed did not show any signs of the ink running out.

Shame on Epson for this robbery. I am considering returning this printer and going back with HP.

Every time I replace a cartridge in my XP-800 printer, it requires 2 to 3 Head Cleanings before it even prints out of that new cartridge. By the time the cleanings are done, it's already indicating lower ink levels on the cartridges I JUST INSTALLED. I use this printer every day, so there really isn't any long idle periods.

Also, when I first replaced the Black cartridge(non-photo), I realized the one that come with my printer was faulty. When I did Nozzle Checks, the black pattern would only show on either "MB02CB" or QP100C41" on the printout, but not both. It explains why the black printing was so light in color. The other black replacements didn't do this.

All in all, I've had bad luck with these cartridges, and I've only been using this printer and these cartridges for two weeks.

Other than that, they print beautifully whenever they work.

I bought an Epson Xp800 all in one to upgrade from a RX680. I use it only to print DVD's.
It prints great but I've only printed 20 dvd's and it is already saying it is low on ink.
At $70 for a set of standard carts that works out to $3 a DVD. Shame on you Epson for fleecing
you customers like this. I used to get over 150 DVD's printed with my RX680 and the quality was close.
I think I'm going back to it. $300 for this printer, what a rip off. It also takes more steps to print a DVD
than the RX680...some upgrade.

Ok here is the update:
Epson did contact me and said that extra ink is used the first time you fire this printer up.
I have had half a dozen Epsons through the years and none of the others ever used this amount of ink
on the original set. Epson also said I may have gotten a bad set of inks and they wanted to make things right.
They sent me a whole set of extra capacity inks for this printer on them. I have to say their customer service
has gotten much better than in the past. Will have to see if the inks will last longer with this set.
No complaint with their customer service. Thanks Epson.

As others have posted--the company designed this printer so that you CAN NOT use it if one of the printer cartridges is low/empty!! Even if a low quality print will work, even if you need just black ink and a color ink is empty. RIDICULOUS AND SHAMEFUL DESIGN. Funny thing is the company made it VERY EASY FOR YOU TO ORDER NEW INK CARTRIDGES--IT JUST COMES RIGHT UP ON SCREEN! If they were intent on keeping their customers happy they would have made the printer act like a real printer so that we could still print with low/empty color cartridges if needed. I needed to print off a list of my medications to take to my doctor appointment--a simple black/white print would do. Well the printer told me I could not print ANYTHING until I replaced "Cyan Ink" !!! So I could not print a list of meds for my doc and there were too many to list by hand. My husband was getting ready to go for a job interview and wanted to print off a quick resume (black/white would be fine). No--could not print because printer locked up until we paid for a replacement "cyan ink cartridge". Unbelievable--Epson I think you lost your good name and following with this design. Go run off with your head between your legs. TOTALLY UNRELIABLE PIECE OF CRAP!!

Since I purchased my Epson printer in January 2013, I have had to replace this black toner cartridge four times and I have not printed more than 300 B & W pages. I notice that the new cartridges do not weigh more than the empty ones and now feel that Epson is distributing almost empty cartridges. The last black cartridge showed that it was full until I printed out a couple of test pages. The ink capacity then indicated that I had used up one quarter of the cartridge. I am now investigating using compatible toner from other manufacturers which could not be worst that the crap that Epson is putting out. In addition, this problem exists with the other colors needed to operate my printer. Even if I don't use my printer in a few days, the ink seems to evaporate. I know printer companies sell their printers cheap and get the customers back with the price of the ink, but my printer was not cheap. I can only print out four or five photos before I get replace toner alerts, and the quality of color photos are muddy and awful. I picked my Epson printer because it had scanner/copy/fax capability, but realize that my simple HP printer and ink gives higher quality printing as compared to Epson. Stay clear of Epson printers.
