Quick, convenient control
The Epson EX51 offers a host of user-friendly features for quick, convenient control. With Instant Off/On, there’s no warmup or cool down time required. If you chose to install your projector, power the projector on and off with the flip of a wall switch with Direct Power On/Off. Use the A/V Mute Slide, or Sleep Mode, to instantly pause the presentation so the audience can focus their attention on the presenter, as opposed to what’s being projected. If the slide is closed for a set period of time, the projector goes into Sleep Mode, which can be set to activate at any time between 1 and 30 minutes. This convenient feature is not only energy efficient, it contributes to a lower overall cost of ownership.

Energy-efficient light engine — The 3LCD light engine efficiently uses available lamp light to create stunning images. In contrast to 1-chip DLP technology, 3LCD requires 25% less electricity per lumen of brightness.**
Amazing color and white light output With Epson projectors, your presentations are sure to shine bright. The Epson EX51 delivers 2500 lumens of color light output and 2500 lumens of white light output* for rich, colorful images. Whether you’re projecting images with deep, dark colors or a white screen with minimal text or graphics, you get consistent light output. And, with Epson, you can be confident you’re getting what you need because Epson measures white light output according to the ISO 21118 standard, a more rigid standard than the maximum or outdated ANSI lumens rating used by competitive products.
Energy-efficient E-TORL® lamp The innovative E-TORL lamp, exclusively from Epson, is a reliable performer that delivers more lumens per watt and lasts up to 5000 hours.*** Switch the projector to Normal Mode and the E-TORL lamp still produces up to 4000 hours of light performance. The special E-TORL design minimizes both light diffraction and light leakage, providing you the ultimate in lamp. And, E-TORL replacement lamps cost up to $100 less than competing replacement lamps. So, while the E-TORL lamp maximizes your presentation time, it also minimizes your costs.

Energy efficiency was measured as wattage per lumen. It was measured for both 3LCD and 1-chip projectors in six different lumens categories. 3LCD projectors averaged less required electricity per lumen in each of the six categories.
*** Lamp life will vary depending upon mode selected, environmental conditions and usage. Lamp brightness decreases over time.

Great projector,
By Muzikman "DJNT" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector (Office Product)
This is my first projector (to be used mainly for movie viewing at home) and I'm very happy with it. I've had it for 3 days and all I can say is that it's more than enough for a "movie theater experience" for a small apartment. I'm currently using just the white wall in my apartment and I can say that you can do without a projector screen and be wowed with the color and resolution of this projector. The only thing I'm not very happy about is that the volume on this product is subpar (The HDMI connection can only be heard through the projector's speaker). However, volume output can be remedied by connecting your PC or Bluray / DVD unit to an external source (like a 7.1 home theater setup, etc). I have my audio output connected from PC to a nice Logitech PC speakers with subwoofer and the "theater experience" in my living room is more than enough to make me feel like I'm experiencing a genuine movie theater atmosphere (and I don't have to pay for inflated movie ticket, popcorn / candy prices!)UPDATE: (JUNE 12, 2010) I bought an Epson Duet 80" inch projector screen and the picture is much, much better now!

Basic projector, good for the money,
By Pace Ripley (Somerville, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector (Office Product)
We got the projector as backup for a meeting at a client. The projector boots up fast and has straightforward menus, as you would expect from an Epson. While it displays text very clearly, image and color reproduction in particular are an issue. Blue colored objects and shaped are presented as black and fine details in photos disappear. Tinkering with menus sadly failed to fix the situation. Still, for the money, it is more than enough for basic usage and will satisfy anyone in need to display video or share information in large format.

No Windows 64-bit support for USB plug-n-play,

This review is from: Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector (Office Product)
One of the main features of the Epson EX31, EX51 and EX71 is USB plug-n-play. This is theoretically a nice feature that simplifies setup. You just connect a single USB cable from PC to projector, and it sends all audio and video over that.Unfortunately Epson doesn't have 64-bit USB drivers for Windows Vista or Windows 7. This is despite the fact that about 50% of Windows 7 installations are 64-bit. This indicates poor planning and lack of commitment to the most common operating system platform. This may change in time, but as of now (October 2010), Epson technical support says the company has no public plans for 64 bit Windows support of this feature. Therefore if you now have or plan on ever running any 64-bit version of Windows, just assume the Epson USB plug-n-play feature isn't there. Any evaluation of these Epson printers vs competitors should be minus this feature, as there's no current public plan to ever support 64 bit Windows. Besides this, the projector works pretty well. It has multiple inputs: composite, S-Video, VGA and HDMI. Image quality on HDMI seems very good and it's decent even on composite. The menu system is logical and easy to understand. However the fan is fairly loud, and there's a soft repetitive beeping from the printer. The acoustic noise is probably OK in a noisy classroom, but it's way too loud for a quiet environment. Also the on-board speaker volume is limited, so if your presentation contains audio, you'll need external audio for people to hear it very well.
