5.0 out of 5 stars Great projector
This is my first projector (to be used mainly for movie viewing at home) and I'm very happy with it. 3.0 out of 5 stars Basic projector, good for the money
We got the projector as backup for a meeting at a client.
The projector boots up fast and has straightforward menus, as you would expect from an Epson. While it displays text very clearly, image and color reproduction in particular are an issue. Blue colored objects and shaped are presented as black and fine details in photos disappear. Tinkering with menus sadly...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great projector, April 3, 2010

This is my first projector (to be used mainly for movie viewing at home) and I'm very happy with it. I've had it for 3 days and all I can say is that it's more than enough for a "movie theater experience" for a small apartment. I'm currently using just the white wall in my apartment and I can say that you can do without a projector screen and be wowed with the color and resolution of this projector. The only thing I'm not very happy about is that the volume on this product is subpar (The HDMI connection can only be heard through the projector's speaker). However, volume output can be remedied by connecting your PC or Bluray / DVD unit to an external source (like a 7.1 home theater setup, etc). I have my audio output connected from PC to a nice Logitech PC speakers with subwoofer and the "theater experience" in my living room is more than enough to make me feel like I'm experiencing a genuine movie theater atmosphere (and I don't have to pay for inflated movie ticket, popcorn / candy prices!)

UPDATE: (JUNE 12, 2010) I bought an Epson Duet 80" inch projector screen and the picture is much, much better now!

The projector boots up fast and has straightforward menus, as you would expect from an Epson. While it displays text very clearly, image and color reproduction in particular are an issue. Blue colored objects and shaped are presented as black and fine details in photos disappear. Tinkering with menus sadly failed to fix the situation.
Still, for the money, it is more than enough for basic usage and will satisfy anyone in need to display video or share information in large format.

3.0 out of 5 stars No Windows 64-bit support for USB plug-n-play, October 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector (Office Product)
One of the main features of the Epson EX31, EX51 and EX71 is USB plug-n-play. This is theoretically a nice feature that simplifies setup. You just connect a single USB cable from PC to projector, and it sends all audio and video over that.

Unfortunately Epson doesn't have 64-bit USB drivers for Windows Vista or Windows 7. This is despite the fact that about 50% of Windows 7 installations are 64-bit. This indicates poor planning and lack of commitment to the most common operating system platform.

This may change in time, but as of now (October 2010), Epson technical support says the company has no public plans for 64 bit Windows support of this feature. Therefore if you now have or plan on ever running any 64-bit version of Windows, just assume the Epson USB plug-n-play feature isn't there. Any evaluation of these Epson printers vs competitors should be minus this feature, as there's no current public plan to ever support 64 bit Windows.

Besides this, the projector works pretty well. It has multiple inputs: composite, S-Video, VGA and HDMI. Image quality on HDMI seems very good and it's decent even on composite.

The menu system is logical and easy to understand.

However the fan is fairly loud, and there's a soft repetitive beeping from the printer. The acoustic noise is probably OK in a noisy classroom, but it's way too loud for a quiet environment. Also the on-board speaker volume is limited, so if your presentation contains audio, you'll need external audio for people to hear it very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Theater / Small Price, June 7, 2010
This review is from: Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector (Office Product)
I purchased this projector soley for watching dvd and vhs movies, I chose this model due to its great price and low price of replacement bulbs. I placed it & a vcr/dvd player in my bookcase hooked it to my bookshelf stereo for sound and have an instant movie theater (about 10 minutes total set up time). I have projected it against a white wall and now a tan wall, the image quality is excellent with clarity and vivid colors. I don't even feel the need to buy a screen.

I also have used it for my nintendo wii and was just as happy, the kids of course loved it too. I am planning on moving to another state so instead of bringing my extremely plasma tv I'm going to purchase another one of these. They are very easy to carry.

Overall I am extremely satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product, March 3, 2010
This review is from: Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector (Office Product)
So far I have been very pleased with this projector. It is extremely easy to set up and "pair" with the computer. It is bright (although I have not used it in a very large room yet) and the colors are great. There are several modern inputs which give it great flexibility for your different types of presentations. I have been told it is much easier to use than the older types. Give this one a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Machine, January 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This machine was purchased to be used at a conference with 350 attendees. The picture was bright and the machine was easy to set up. Strongly recommend this product based on price, performance and the nice feature of being able to use the usb port so you don't even need a computer. The videos played flawlessly and you could see the picture from any angle in the audience. Very happy with it.

Great picture. Many alernative ways to connect. I have used the USB (for older lap top), HDMI (newer windows 7 lap top), and the Red, White and Yellow pins (direct to VHS / DVD player)- all worked great without any problems. I really like the "scan for signal" feature. The size of the picture(very large)in a short distance was great. The fan runs for a very short time after "power down" which means it's running cooler than older products. Really liked the "picture" options also to choose between presentations or a "theater" picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice product from Epson, August 14, 2010
This review is from: Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector (Office Product)
Its been a week I brought this product. Initially, I was a little skeptical on how good the product will perform due to the fact that it was priced a lot lower than many other projectors in its class. I was impressed with the video quality and not to mention the ease of use. Its just plug-n-play. It comes with its own carrying case out of the box and is pretty sleek. Best thing I like is it has a hdmi input and I play the 720p videos straight off of Youtube and you can only appreciate the great piece of entertainment it gives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable, Colorful, Dependable, 13-Foot Diagonal, February 1, 2012
This review is from: Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector (Office Product)
We LOVE our television, and after 3 years the original lamp is still working!

This is our 3rd front projection TV, and it is by far the most dependable (previous BenQ and InFocus models were OK). The features/function mix is not perfect, but practical for the budget range of this device. The throw distance of 18 feet across our family room is superb. We have 3800 hours on the manufacturer's lamp after 3 years of use, and its 2500 lumens continue to shine bright!

When we consider our next lamp replacement compared to a new TV of comparable price, we'll most likely stick with the Epson EX51 and a new lamp because we're so happy with our family TV. We hope you'll be as thrilled as we've been.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compacto pero muy versátil, October 9, 2010

Me parece un estupendo producto que reune en pocas libras las características deseadas en un proyector, la conexión vía USB me parece muy útil para evitar los enredos con los cables. La viveza de los colores es muy buena también.
