WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING:
“The Epson Stylus Photo R2000 13-inch printer won this category by offering several features typically found only in higher-priced models, such as pigment-based inks, flexible media handling, and large-capacity cartridges.”~Professional Photographer, (March 2012)
"The Epson Stylus Photo R2000 offers a balance of speed, output quality, paper handling, features, and price that make it highly attractive. Most of all, it's unusually affordable for its level of output quality. For the moment at least, there is nothing else in its price class that even comes close to challenging it. And that makes it a clear Editors' Choice." ~PCMag.com, (August 23, 2011)

I would never thought an inkjet printer will match prints from a pro lab. I was debating between R2000 and the aging Canon 9000 Mark II. At the time of my purchased, there were no review in Amazon. I have farmed out most my works to Professional online and local lab in Minnesota in the past. Bought mine on Octorber 2011. I finally have side by side comparison prints from a Pro lab and R2000. For print size of 4"x6" to 11"x14", you won't notice the different. Wifi ready is big PLUS, it allow me to place the printer anywhere in the studio with an outlet. I have not print from roll and CD cover yet. For the last 3 months, I have not encountered double feeding, paper jam and ink clogging issue a well known problem for epson printers in the past. I've tested the clogging issue by not printing for 3 weeks and it still printed just fine. I will update my review if any thing arise.
Pro. WIFI ready, compact, print on roll, print CD cover and professional quality for a $500 printer.
Con. Use a lot of Gloss-Optimizer ink in 2-1 ratio of other colors if print strictly in photo on luster paper.
Hope this review help your decision,
Thank you for reading.
I am very please with this printer up to this point. It's still running strong for almost 3 years. It has not clog once yet. I am thinking of getting another unit if price come down. I am surprise that the price actually going up rather than decline after almost 3 years on the market.
I purchased this printer in December 2011 and hadn't opened it because I wasn't sure of the location. I knew the printer would be large (did my research) so I waited until I found a spot. The set up was super easy and the printer found my wifi location very quickly. I love that the printer can be located anywhere in the house and doesn't have to be directly connected to the computer.
The picture quality is absolutely brilliant. I didn't know what to expect from a home photo printer but I had read so many reviews and run across so many people that have this model that I decided to bite the bullet (the $100 rebate also helped my decision). I'm a full time scrap booker and amateur photographer so I print a lot of photos. I like the freedom and flexibility of deciding how I want my photos printed on the spot instead of sending them out for print and realize that a different size photo would have worked better.
I just ordered extra ink cartridges from the Epson Store because I received a coupon code but the cartridges are a little pricey still.
I bought a refurbished r2000 from Epson for $349.00 with a one year warranty. Additional years were available.
I've had the Epson r2000 Pro Photo Printer about two weeks and I've given it a workout.. I've printed 52- 13 x 19 prints on the highest setting and over 40 -8.5 x 11 prints also at the highest setting. All prints were beautiful. They were my wildlife shots from safaris in South Africa.
The printer worked flawlessly, but I did find it uses the gloss optimizer at a faster rate than the other cartridges, followed by the gloss black and then cyan. Printing on semigloss photo paper at the highest quality settings--For the prints that I've done I've used 4 gloss Optimizer, 3 gloss black, 2 cyan. And one or less of the other cartridges. I've not used any matte paper.
For quality, I have a picture of a female leopard and you can actually count her whiskers in the picture.
When printing on 13 x 19 paper using WiFi the prints were taking almost 30 minutes each print.(I do have a slow router) I decided to connect the printer directly to my computer and it cut the time down to six minutes and 23 seconds. For the 8.5 x 11 when connected to the computer the prints were taking three minutes 11 seconds.
Now for the good news!! There seems to be a glut of genuine Epson ink for this printer. You can buy a set of 8 genuine Epson cartridges for as little as $14.30. Amazon has them listed at $21.98 and they work perfectly with your printer. There is no problem with the printer not recognizing them. They come vacuum shrink wrapped just like the cartridges that are supplied by Epson. You can also find genuine gloss optimizer on eBay for $8.99 + $2.50 shipping.
PS -- -- if you're looking for an outstanding photo paper try Red River Photo Paper, it is the heaviest best looking paper that I have ever found..----If you try this paper stop back and leave your opinion it might help others. Thanks
This gargantuan printer prints incredible photos. There are endless color adjustments possible and the prints are sharp and clear. I find the Adobe RGB setting to be most realistic color for fleshtones. The downside for me, and the reason I have to return this printer, is that although the printer is wireless and is supposed to be one of the printers that is Epson iprint enabled, the ONLY things that I was able to print through the iprint app were JPEGs. The app brings up choices of photos, docs, cloud storage, etc. as selections for printing, but each and every file type except JPEG produces an "unsupported file type" error. The printer is also not (yet) compatible with Epson's email printing. To be clear, I was able to print all the file types I needed from my home computer/laptop. But much of what I want to print, I want to be able to do remotely from an android device.
I contacted Epson about the JPEG only issue, as the types of projects I would be printing would include files other than JPEG and I regularly use andoid devices for at least parts of my projects. Epson's response was as follows: "At this time, the JPEG file type is all that is supported. They are always updating this so it will most likely have more support in the future." I wish they could have given me something more concrete - what additional remote printing options will be available and in what time frame. So I have to reluctantly return this printer, but will keep an eye on it to possibly purchase again in the future when updates to connectivity have been made.
