this is a gem, and absolute classic. Chapter 1, entitled "The Grail of Equality" is alone worth the cost of the book. Peter Bauer is an excellent writer and his exposure of the foreign aid mess is a salutary lesson on the incompetence of governments to end poverty.

Great arguments. Well written. I got this book because Thomas Sowell, one of my favorite authors, recommended it in an article. I am very happy I bought it. Full of great arguments you won't hear anywhere else.

A common sense, deeply detailed explanation of worldwide economic development. Common assumptions, many of them widely held, are exposed as untrue.

Tough read for the layman, but very easy to understand Thomas Sowell's recommendation. All liberals should read this book; it will probably change some attitudes.

I wish I had time to give a "real" review of this book. It is a must-read, especially if you are interested in ways to help the poor and less fortunate around the world. Excellent. Get it now.
