I had no expectations when I first heard this album (and they were all exceeded). Equations is mainly instrumental with some very jazzy moments, and lots of fast sequenced beats to keep the pace moving. The occasional vocal tracks are well balanced with the main emphasis on instruments and rythm. Although I wouldn't classify this as a jazz album, I would especially recommend it to jazz fans and anyone who likes bands such as Portishead but also enjoys something a bit more high energy.

Endemic Void only released one album, EQUATIONS, but its jazzstep funk still rings strong today. "Hydrosphere" has a slickness like pure lubricant to it, while "Lion Stone" takes a familiar riff and sets it along some mellow breaks. "Serious Intent" brings in some full-on piano jazz for good measure, and Emma Stow adds her dreamy vocals to the drifting "Inner Daze." "Inflectious" has some phased horns at the center of its melody, with some jungle flourishes for good measure, and "Evolution" takes a more freeform approach to its structure. A slow darkness reigns supreme on "Confuzed," though the rapper is only OK, but "Intermission" ends the album on a nice, funky note. It's too bad Endemic Void didn't get more chances to solve additional equations.
