Great album. Fans of Ecuadorian and Andean music will thoroughly enjoy it, I am sure. Alex has updated traditional Ecuadorian music and made it accesible to a broader audience.

This is a very carefully constructed piece of work and thoroughly enjoyable. It's quite different from Alvear's work with Mango Blue, his excellent salsa band that has many members and the music is heavily orchestrated. While Mango Blue's music is intense, Equatorial is much mellower and stripped down. The result is a new sound for him and you get the sense that it was a labor of love. The emotions come through. Kick back and enjoy it.

This is a great cd. The artist takes apart and reconstructs Ecuadorean rythms giving them a more updated and contemporary sound. This is not for Andean music purists. Throw this on during a cocktail party. Great world music vibe!
