5.0 out of 5 stars Former TOTO singer's solo debut
Fergie Frederiksen is the voice behind my favourite album of all time - TOTO's "Isolation". Some years ago I found a postal address for him and quickly sent off a sprawling, vaguely gushing handwritten letter to him. A few months later I was more than a bit surprised to find he'd sent me some original signed promotional material for his brand new solo album. I...

1.0 out of 5 stars This is Awful!
I'm usually not inclined to write bad reviews but I think this particular poor work deserves to be reported so others will not make the same mistake. Please save your money and buy something else, this CD is so bad I do not know where to begin. The songs are sooooooo bad it's pathetic. Granted, Fergie sings OK, but without a good song to carry him along, this CD is only...

I ordered it instantly.

Initially I was slightly disappointed - his voice doesn't soar QUITE as freely as it had 15 years earlier, and this time he wasn't singing songs written by the great David Paich. However after a few listens it grew on me, and there are in fact no weak moments on the CD at all. Fergie and longtime friend and producer Ricky Phillips chose excellent material from a wide range of sources to fill up the disc, including a few self-penned titles. Absolute highlights are "Mata Hari", "All For Love", "Died In The Midst Of A Dream" and "The Truth Is Good Enough".

Since releasing this album Fergie has done guest vocal spots on the two Radioactive albums (the 2nd is forthcoming) and was a member for the first "Mecca" album. All of these are only available as imports, but if you like TOTO (especially "Isolation") or Journey, you'll probably feel you've got your moneys worth.

Fergie is due to start work on his second solo effort soon - can't wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Retro 80's Batman!!, March 6, 2002
This review is from: Equilibrium (Audio CD)
If you had no idea that this album was released in 1999, you'd swear that it was an 80's recording. This is understandable when you realize that the songwriters on this album were responsible for some of the 80's most successful tunes. If you like 80's music, you'll really enjoy this album. Unless you are a Toto fan, you will probably have no idea who Fergie is. Think of it this way: if Toto and Chicago ever had a love child, it would be Fergie Fredericksen! Don't sweat it though. The man can hold his own and he's got some great songwriters and musicians (including Journey's Neal Schon), to back him up. The tunes are rockin', catchy pop music that'll still be in your head days after you've listened to it. For an import, you can't beat the price. Get one now while you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fergie Frederiksen Updates, January 7, 2002
This review is from: Equilibrium (Audio CD)
Fergie Frederiksen known by vocalist of TOTO's Isolation is now part of another great rock project Mecca produced by Jim Peterik which will be released around May 2002. Fergie's solo Equilibrium best represents his vocal appeal maybe better than Isolation. His vocal range is diverse enough to cover the songs written by different great songwriters who produced 80's big hits. Pure delight for 80's rock fan for sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, August 13, 2008
This review is from: Equilibrium (Audio CD)
Fergie first solo album is a good one.His voice doesnt quite shine as much as in TOTO's Isolation. And its lacking the great backup band as in TOTO.The writing,I think,is lacking also. But I enjoy it as I love Fergies kicking voice!

5.0 out of 5 stars FERGIE KEEPS PURE WESTCOAST AOR ALIVE, March 30, 2000
This review is from: Equilibrium (Audio CD)
Great album. I heard he was the vocalist of Toto's Isolation, but as far as I have heard this album, it sounds more like Chicago than Toto. In fact,6th track"Crazy" was to be used for Chicago 18 or 19. Thanks to Fergie, this hapless masterpiece track has been given a new life. He has also given 80's hit-making songwriters an opportunity to demonstrate their excellent songwriting. Jim Peterik(Survivor) co-wrote two tracks such as Equilibrium, grandiose untempo rocker with impressive background vocals, and THE TRUTH IS GOOD ENOUGH best ballad since "The Search Is Over". Richard Page of Mr. Mister gave great track FALLING INTO PLACE. Other recommendation include Mata Hari, All for Love, Tell Me Diana. All 11 songs are excellent. If you are Chicago/Peter Cetera fans this album is a must. And highly recommended for Toto, Mr. Mister, Survivor, Doobie Brothers, and Eagles/Don Henry fans. Now the collaboration featuring Jim Peterik and Fergie Fredericksen will happen again with! another great rock project "Mecca" due around May 2002.
